Are skinny jeans really a no no?

I'm 38 and must have tried every jean out there -but I come back to my skinny jeans.
No other jeans suit me and I don't feel comfy in any other jeans
I've seen lots of threads on here about them being unfashionable etc
Are they really that out of style ?
In autumn I find them the best to wear with boots and knits ,shackets ,bomber jackets etc.

I don't want to be really out of fashion but at the same time I love my skinny jeans and they suit me as I have long legs (only good thing I have going for me )

I just bought a new pair and they’re always sold out! I’m on my 5th they’re the best out there just wear out after a few years as I’m a bit of a parsnip leg!

the Tu clothing hi rise ones

Lovemusic82 · 18/09/2023 18:39

Wear what you want to wear. I still wear skinnies, like you I feel they are the only style that look right in me.

itsmyp4rty · 18/09/2023 19:18

I only wear skinny jeans, I couldn't care less if they're fashionable or not. If something looks good on you then it doesn't matter if it's fashionable or not IMO.

Plantymcplantface · 18/09/2023 19:52

I can’t wear other styles, my legs are my best feature ! Forever being told as an apple
shape to “balance” things out with a wide leg but I just feel enormous. Wear what you like :)

Cupcakekiller · 18/09/2023 19:54

Just wear them.

Johnnylewis · 18/09/2023 19:59

Most women IRL wear skinny jeans.

StarlightLady · 19/09/2023 06:05

Agree with others, skinny jeans are fine. And do not look as if you have turned up at a fancy dress party as a builder 😂.

User17439824 · 19/09/2023 06:21

If they suit you and you like them of course wear them, I don't as I have fairly bandy legs and am tall and they just emphasise this so I prefer wide legs. All styles seem to be in the shops so how can they be a no no

BHRK · 19/09/2023 10:35

In the real world people of all ages are wearing them!

SergioPerezsSombrero · 19/09/2023 11:13

I will always go to skinny's!!! I have mom jeans and I just look huge in them! Although I can get away with the crop top look as the mom jeans are baggy at my waist and hide the mum tum! I wouldn't dare wear a crop with skinny's as the muffin top would be unreal!

Zipps · 19/09/2023 11:30

You can wear anything you like.
I'm not throwing away perfectly good clothing that I like, fits me and my lifestyle and suits me just to buy something deemed acceptable by someone I don't know who wants more of my money for other clothes that they will later tell me are out of fashion.

stayflufft · 19/09/2023 12:10

I will be buried in my skinny jeans. They’re a classic and staple of my wardrobe.

uncomfortablydumb53 · 19/09/2023 13:54

They'll never be a no no for me!
They are the best fit and style for my small frame and I hate flappy material around my ankles
There are still lots in the shops so there must be a demand
Wear whatever jeans suit you best and you feel comfortable in

DistantSkye · 19/09/2023 22:00

They aren't the most current shape, and I think the current silhouette of looser/relaxed cut bottoms and and a more fitted top seems more on trend, but you can base nice outfits around skinny jeans and still look good!
Yesterday was absolutely pouring with rain where I am, and it was my day off - I wore black skinny jeans, an oversized sweatshirt and DMs and think I looked ok! Not every outfit has to be cutting edge, comfy/practical etc is fine!

MissBiljanaElectronika · 19/09/2023 22:23

They are not fashionable

but most people aren’t fashionable, so plenty of people still wear them 😁

i still wear them to walk the dogs and will probably wear them a bit in winter again too with big woolly jumpers as work in a very very cold office

but they are not fashionable but so what

Tregothnanny · 19/09/2023 22:26

Stick with skinnies if that's what suits you.

I stupidly tried wide leg jeans and it's been raining all day. I had cold damp legs at work. Reminded me of school in the 90s. ☹️ never again.

All my colleagues wear slim fit or skinnies. I looked like a damp and grumpy clown in wide leg.

im going to wash and dry them and stick them in the charity bag for collection 😂

Boyonthenres · 19/09/2023 22:29

Well All Saints is a pretty cool retailer I'd say and at least half their jeans are skinny fit so....

Divebar2021 · 19/09/2023 22:30

Why people think they’re comfortable I have no idea…. Skin tight clothing is not my idea of comfort. They’re also not really my idea of classic… a dark straight leg or worn Levi’s 501s are classic. Skinny jeans are ubiquitous though… I’ll grant you that.

RampantIvy · 19/09/2023 22:32

They are not fashionable

I posted upthred that I was looking for jeans in our local town centre at the weekend. I was hard pressed to find any that weren't skinny. Clearly the retailers haven't got the memo.

MissBiljanaElectronika · 19/09/2023 22:36

Maybe your town centre isn’t very high fashion 😁

same as my town: Next, M&S , Phase Eight, Seasalt , white Stuff, White Company and Fatface… fashion it is not

maybe anti-fashion (think the above shops) are kind of cool and fashionable in their own right. Like a bold statement of not caring.

SkaneTos · 19/09/2023 22:39

Wear what you want!

RampantIvy · 19/09/2023 22:40

No, South Yorkshire is not known for being fashion forward, but it is difficult to be fashionable if you can't find fashionable clothes - and jeans is something I will never buy online. I always end up trying on loads before I find the perfect fit.

My current jeans are slim straight BTW.

thecatinthetwat · 19/09/2023 22:44

Skinny jeans are actually back ‘in’ for what it’s worth. But also, wear what you like op.

BettyB0Op · 19/09/2023 23:00

I always wear skinnies in the rain, I couldn’t give a shit if they are uncool. However, I’ve fallen in love with the loser style, they are so comfy! However I do tend to go for high waisted fitted ones that still give me a shape and always tuck my top in. I find the kids section in H&M gives a better fit for those of us 5ft 3 and under! I’m a size 8-10 and can fit in the larger teenage sizes, it’s also cheaper!!

isophie · 19/09/2023 23:23

Since when were skinny jeans "out"? I'm 28 (although I have an alternative style, gothic/punk/emo") and wear skinny jeans all the time. I exclusively own skinny jeans and have 2 pairs of flares, and I hate leggings so I'm almost always wearing skinny jeans with my new rock boots. I didn't know they weren't fashionable anymore, I don't tend to pay attention to how other people are dressed 🤷🏼‍♀️
