Dermatica 'helpfully' reducing size of product

From 15ml to 12.5ml.

But no mention of reducing price. Shrinkflation at its finest.

I switched to Skin&Me ages ago but still got the email. Honestly I’d have had more respect for them if they’d come out and said “ingredients have got more expensive so we had a choice between reducing the amount of product or putting the price up, and feedback suggests you often have product left over at the end of the month anyway so we decided reducing the amount was the better option”. Framing it as being for customer benefit really pissed me off.

whatnext3 · 13/09/2023 14:54

Got that email too. I expect it's just the quantity shrinking and not the price.

Anyone with any suggestions where else to source tret?

TeenagersAngst · 13/09/2023 14:55

@peachgreen I agree. Just be honest! We all know inflation is a thing.

I tried Skin & Me but didn't like it. Think I'll take a break from Dermatica anyway as I'm not seeing enough benefit to pay £25 a month for a tiny vial of something.

They put the prices up a few months ago, so I guess they can't just say that again. I think I'll also have a break from it, 'cause I can't really justify it any longer.

mamma65432 · 13/09/2023 16:19

I've just emailed to ask them what the corresponding reduction in price will be. I think tret is available via a Spanish pharmacist or maybe private GP's in the UK.

Scruffington · 13/09/2023 16:23

I bought two tubes of tret in Spain this summer and that will do me for the next 10-12 months. Skin & Me and Dermatica seem expensive for what you get and the strength of tret always seems to be on the really low side.

Itsabeautifuldaytosavelives123 · 13/09/2023 16:26

Not happy about this after them putting the price up by £5 in July! Really questioning the benefits now. I liked the tube size as it did last longer than a month.

Delatron · 13/09/2023 16:30

I’m pretty cross about this. Because we all know their ‘expiry’ dates are rubbish. A tube of tret does not ‘go off’ in the space of a few months. I used to just spread my subscription out as a tube would last me a few months. They’ve clearly cottoned on to this and are being money grabbing.

It’s not cheap as it is! Wish I’d stocked up when I was in Spain in the summer.

BansheeofInisherin · 13/09/2023 16:34

If you have any friends or colleagues from India, ask them. It's available over the counter at any pharmacy in strong formulations at less than £2. I get 2 tubes a year and that lasts me.

Farmageddon · 13/09/2023 16:40

I get my tretinoin from Farmacia Andorra as I'm not in the UK so can't get Dermatica etc.

The brand is called Retirides - it comes in 0.025%, 0.05% and 0.1% strengths. The delivery charge to me is usually about €20 so I buy 3 or 4 tubes together. It can take a few weeks to get delivered.

Apparently it's a bit stronger than Skin & Me, Dermatica, so just be careful when chosing a strength, your skin might react for a while.

Farmageddon · 13/09/2023 16:44

FYI it's also called Farmacia Tristaina, just so you don't confuse it with other websites.

MuffinCoffee · 13/09/2023 16:51

@BansheeofInisherin which brand in India please? My friend is coming in October from India. Thanks

HundredMilesAnHour · 13/09/2023 16:56

I do think it's very poor of them reducing the size without a price decrease. Especially given they increased prices a few months ago unless you signed up to the discounted buy 6/12 months upfront. I paid for 6 months upfront so it keeps my monthly cost (incl. postage) under £20 but that should have been 6 months of 15ml and now it seems my last 3 months will be 12.5ml instead so I'm 7.5ml short of what I paid for upfront. Very naughty of them!

BansheeofInisherin · 13/09/2023 17:22

@MuffinCoffee The brand name is Retin-A. It comes in two strengths, 0.025% ( which I use) and 0.05 %. I do echo what pp says. This is probably stronger than Dermatica, so do be cautious in case your skin reacts. I only use it twice a week, and I buffer with moisturiser. I have quite tough skin and initally used it for acne.

MuffinCoffee · 13/09/2023 17:33

Thank you for the info and tips. That's really helpful. I'll ask for the lowest concentration to start of with. What moisturizer do you use?

My Dermatica strength is 0.1% which I believe is the strongest you can get in the uk

Absolutechaos · 13/09/2023 20:34

I contacted them to ask what the price reduction would be - as expected none! Will be cancelling my subscription and trying an online supplier from Spain.

Isabelle70 · 13/09/2023 21:15

I use Dermatica for my rosacea so really disappointed in the size reduction for the recently increased cost.
I could most likely ask my GP for Soolantra as he was interested when I told him about Dermatica but I like the Dermatica texture.
My tube normally last 5 weeks or so I will be careful with it now and still see if I can stretch it out.

mamma65432 · 13/09/2023 21:29

@Isabelle70 Superdrug online pharmacy sell Soolantra which probably works out cheaper than Dermatica

Isabelle70 · 13/09/2023 21:53

@mamma65432 I could get it from my GP and the prescription would be £4.60 (not in the UK so not sure how much yours would be) a tube but I don't know if I would like the texture. If it's quite cream like I won't like it. I didn't like the Rozex texture so didn't continue with it.
I might ask about it next time I go for a check up but I am in no rush to make any changes as I love how my skin is with Dermatica after suffering for 30 years.

apairofblueeyes100 · 14/09/2023 10:38

Got this email too and was thoroughly disgusted. 'change has been made due to customer feedback' b*ocks.

keffie12 · 14/09/2023 10:48

I swapped from Dermatica to Skin + me because it was slightly cheaper, and I was looking to save money.

Skin + me don't charge postage. It's my one luxury skin item, so I won't change it ot cancel. I suppose we can expect a price increase from them too soon.

If anyone is interested in changing to Skin + me or starting, this link will give you a referral code, and you will get your first one really cheap at £3.50 and your 5th dose, too. I also benefit from money off.

WildFlowerBees · 14/09/2023 17:08

I changed from Skin & Me as their percentages are very low, but I've now cancelled Dermatica. If they reduce the ml they should also reduce the price. It's nothing to do with feedback and everything to do with revenue.

iPicky · 14/09/2023 18:19

Hi - I ordered some Tret from FARMACIA TRISTAINA earlier today. I had to use my credit card as they didn’t take PayPal. I still haven’t received any confirmation email. Is that normal?

TIA ☺️

bryceQ · 14/09/2023 18:23

I haven't had an email, I pay annually so it's £19 a tube. It's really crappy of them to reduce the size and not the price!
