What's everyone wearing this autumn?

I know, I know, it's lovely and warm at the moment, and I'm enjoying getting some more use out of my summer dresses. But as the leaves change colour and the days get shorter, my thoughts turn towards autumn/winter fashion.

So far, the only thing I'm leaning towards is chunky knits. I've lived in more fitted, finer knits for the past few winters - usually cashmere, as warmer - but now I'm drawn towards bigger, more textured styles. And I'd like to wear more colour, as dark shades depress me, but I say that every year and then can't find anything colourful I want to wear.

What about you?

No-one? C'mon, someone must want to share style ideas.

I've got no idea. I've got some dresses that will go with tights and boots. I've just bought some loafers, to wear with jeans.

I need to up my workwear. I'm in the office 4 days now, and need to travel between different office including London and Birmingham. I need smart outfits that are also comfy for sitting in trains for 2 hours!

Britpopbaby · 07/09/2023 20:18

Mango cardigans! They have some lovely cardigans at the moment.

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 07/09/2023 20:21

Oh hooray, people to talk to!

I will check out the Mango cardigans. I was in Spain last month and got myself a couple of lovely Mango tops and a gorgeous blazer.

Jeans and a jumper.

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 07/09/2023 20:25

What style of jeans and what type of jumpers?

H&M have been spot on with the majority of their AW knitwear they have brought out recently. Just got a lovely zip neck beige and cream striped jumper and im just about to buy the pink version.

Barleymilk · 07/09/2023 20:35

I've recently had my colour analysis done so had a good declutter of the wardrobe. I probably have ten jumpers and five tops in all, but all in my 'warm autumn' pallet.
I bought some wide cord cropped trousers from seasalt last year and hope they will look good with a nice jumper.
Also two linen dresses in lovely shades from an online shop I'd never heard of called Poetry. They were in the sale so I'm hoping to wear may be with boots and a baggy arron jumper? Not sure! I'm over fifty and quite like this stage in my life experimenting with what I have.

I'm obsessed with loafers and brogues at the moment to wear with ankle grazers. I got some lovely checked trousers at matalan with burgundy loafers. Also, I love wide legged trousers at the moment with pointy flats or my gola trainers. I've got lovely longline cardigans and a couple of half zip knits.

Just ordered this for work, but I'm not sure if I'll keep it. I thought it might be nice with black brogues.

I really like a slightly cropped jumper, 7/8ths jeans and brogues look. But still unsure about socks? Do you go go with just an unobtrusive black or pattern and colour?

Lentilweaver · 07/09/2023 20:43

I will reply! I love colour; it suits me. Last year I bought some bright jumpers in the end of year sales. Admittedly nothing fancy, just M and S, Uniqlo, Massimo Dutti but in teal, fuchsia, purple and dark red. Might add a stripy jumper, pssibly H and M or Zara.

I want to buy some cord trousers and a cord dress or skirt, preferably in deep green or rust. Also want to buy some wide leg jeans. And wear more dresses. I have a couple of vintage ones that will go nicely with boots.

Ooh, I love patterned socks! I got very into brightly coloured Fair Ilse socks last winter. And I like a slightly cropped jumper as I wear thicker, chunkier ones without sacrificing my waist. I got a gorgeous Sweaty Betty one in the summer sale that I'm excited to wear.

I was really tempted by a deep-but-soft rose pink coat in TK Maxx last week, but it was a bit big. Plus I worry about my dog leaving muddy paw prints on anything that isn't already mud coloured!!

Button through denim dress, long boots. Ribbed knits, coatigan

Tinytigertail · 07/09/2023 21:05

I'm waiting on delivery of some merino wool jumpers from Uniqlo and some Cos fine knits. I also succumbed to some western boots in black leather, ankle length as I'll wear them more than knee high. I really want some chunky brogues, but like a PP, I'm a bit confused by the sock situation!

Lentilweaver · 07/09/2023 21:08

I have my eye on a pink wool coat too @GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal. But will I wear it? I walk a lot and always forget a brolly, so I end up reaching for my waterproof puffer rather than a posh coat. I don't have much room or money for frivolous purchases. On the other hand, I might love a bit of frivolity in January!

EllaPaella · 07/09/2023 21:11

I'm thinking of loafers with a slightly cropped straight leg jean/trouser and a nice cashmere jumper or silky blouse/shirt. I love wide leg trousers/jeans in summer with sandals and summer shoes but not so keen on how they look with trainers or boots. I always have lots of ideas for casual outfits bit not so good at autumn/winter 'going out' outfits..
I have a lovely long length camel wool coat from last winter that will be getting pulled out the wardrobe as well as a beautiful dark grey wool Calvin Klein coat. I would like a nice coloured cashmere scarf to go with it.

GardensandGrandDesigns · 07/09/2023 21:30

I am looking at a gorgeous hounds tooth short jacket from me and em. That will be my Autumn treat. I've also just bought a coach Cassie 19 handbag in black.

BangingOn · 07/09/2023 21:34

Skirts and dresses all the way for me, I don’t suit jeans or trousers.

My current obsession is Ninety Percent, I have just bought a gorgeous gathered skirt and a couple of jersey tops which I will be living in this autumn. I also have a lovely stretchy knitted skirt from Cos which arrived today and I’m very pleased with. &Other Stories have a great dark aesthetic which I am very tempted by too.

In terms of adapting my summer wardrobe, I will be layering my One Hundred Stars silk Rachel dresses with long cardigans and boots for autumn. I could do with a few new cardigans, possibly All Saints or maybe Sezane for something more classic.

Fishandchipsatthebeach · 07/09/2023 21:49

While still warm enough for bare ankles Lucy & Yak Alexa trousers, or slightly cropped or rolled up straight leg jeans. Or Acai casual stroll trousers. Worn with trainers (I have various trainers including Aro, Hoff etc) . Long sleeve T-shirt, Shirt or chunky cropped jumper.

As weather gets colder - Leggings with Nordic socks, my Sorel Kinetic boots or high top trainers, a longer chunky jumper / shacket / my Passenger fleece or hoody . Like to have my bum covered if wearing leggings!

Skinny leather look jeans with ankle boots for going out . Need a couple of “going out” tops - nothing fancy but something slightly nicer than jumpers!

At home - Cashmere joggers, Nordic socks, Celtic sheepskin slippers, comfy jumpers

I have some wider leg jeans & want to see if I can make them work footwear wise for autumn/winter - like @EllaPaella I struggle with this & didn’t master it last year. I still prefer skinny trousers when weather cold and I need my ankle boots on

I’ve just invested in a Rains rain Mac as wanted a rain coat that’s not a hiking type thing.

I’m also favouring chunky knits over anything too prim & ladylike. Love bold colours too, but there seem to be a lot of jumpers I like that come in beige which is absolutely not my colour!

lindyloo57 · 07/09/2023 21:51

I want to try and wear less black this winter, I do love black but I feel I wear too much of it, so far I have brought a orange cashmere jumper, and a striped rainbow colour wool mix cardigan, I do have a purple, cream, mint green, blue and of course black cashmere jumpers, which I will mostly be wearing with jeans this winter.

Longwhiskers · 07/09/2023 22:03

I love dressing in autumn! We have a fabulous wool shop in our town which stocks the most beautiful jumpers made in Scotland . £££ but determined to buy one this winter. Otherwise my usual autumn stuff or skirts and dresses with tights. Last year I bought several next corduroy pinafores from Vinted and wore those with thin turtlenecks.

Cantonet · 07/09/2023 22:11

I will be wearing these from Crush Cashmere ... Via Tk Maxx.

Can anyone recommend a good place to find long and/or chunky cardigans? I live deep in the country and am thinking of putting floaty dresses with big knits and heavy boots.
