What's everyone wearing this autumn?

I know, I know, it's lovely and warm at the moment, and I'm enjoying getting some more use out of my summer dresses. But as the leaves change colour and the days get shorter, my thoughts turn towards autumn/winter fashion.

So far, the only thing I'm leaning towards is chunky knits. I've lived in more fitted, finer knits for the past few winters - usually cashmere, as warmer - but now I'm drawn towards bigger, more textured styles. And I'd like to wear more colour, as dark shades depress me, but I say that every year and then can't find anything colourful I want to wear.

What about you?

@LadyHester I only really buy secondhand (mainly Vinted) but if I’m looking for some longer length or chunky knitwear I often search the men’s stuff. Got a great H&M long chunky cardigan that attracts compliments- it’s from the men’s department

I'm loving Celtic and co. for chunky knits and boots, but it's sooooo expensive so I'm keeping an eye on Vinted.

Menswear is a good tip - thanks. I prefer to buy sustainable so I’m a bit wary of H and M. Don’t know what Celtic are like on that front?

I really like a slightly cropped jumper, 7/8ths jeans and brogues look. But still unsure about socks? Do you go go with just an unobtrusive black or pattern and colour?

Where are you finding your slightly cropped jumpers, please? I'm ridiculously short in the body (and only 5'1), so tops/jumpers are always FAR too long on me.

@HBGKC I am smaller than you and have bought a number of Mango cardigans that are the perfect length for me so maybe try Mango.

HBGKC · 08/09/2023 19:31

Thanks, I'll have a look.

I'm hoping to get a checked circle-skirt pinafore in a dark green, and a couple of tartan mini skirts- preferably pleated. I want to pair them with long sleeve jersey scoop neck tops or with band-style tshirts over long sleeves for a little bit of a grungy look. I'd love a pair of low rise stretchy skinny cords too, but I've never found a pair I like! I'll also be wearing chunky knit dresses, and jumpers with flared jeans and trainers on dry days. Everything I wear in autumn/ winter has to go with a pair of knee high flat chunky boots for practicality, as it rains a LOT here and I have to be able to run around after the kids/ stay dry on the school run.

I keep trying (and failing) to stop buying clothes but I have mostly bought from Vinted after recently selling a whole load of stuff. I feel prepared for A/W but would still like to break away from trousers maybe delve into a cord or denim midi skirt outfit but not seeing 'the one' so if anyone has anything similar feel free to inspire!
Things I have bought for autumn;
Black merino wool crew neck sweater (Uniqlo)
Topshop Zebra block heel shoes (Vinted)
Dusky pink block low heel pointed shoes (Vinted)
Black wide leg satin trousers (Vinted)
A black silk blouse (Vinted)
A bright red Levi's jumper (Vinted)
Two satin vest tops - one cream with black trim and one champagne colour (Next)
Black faux leather cropped flares (Sosander)
I would like some cowboy boots but am so indecisive as regards to which colour and length etc that I am just mulling this over for a while.. hopefully until the urge passes.
No new coats for me as I am looking forward to digging out the lovely Calvin Klein wool coat that I picked up in a charity shop 2 years ago.

Going to be wearing OTK boots with various dresses. Also knee high boots. Going to give cowboy boots a swerve, just not for me, and avoiding plaid - I live in Scotland and wearing plaid generally makes you look like you work in a tourist shop or are going to a wedding..

Cord and leather-look leggings from M&S with various oversized jumpers. I'm also contemplating a pair of the suede leggings (also M&S as well) Ballet pump/Mary Janes for as long as I can, then long boots once it's too chilly. Barrel shapes/tapered/wide legged jeans with ballet pumps/trainers, with long sleeved fitted tops/jumpers. Mini dresses with brogues or lace up boots - usually smock style in a Boho floral or something A-line and knitted. Midi skirts with knee length boots under for a smarter vibe. Lots of black, grey, navy, red, pale blue, dusky pink, brown and khaki.

Ooh, I like the sound of the suede leggings, might have to pop in and try them on.
