Nearly 50 and plus size quit like the look of T-shirt with blazer for a night out, but don't want to look daft

The only rule I have is that should know and love their work.
Dds friend has a lovely Iron Maiden tshirt and I was very sad to know she had no idea who they were.

Vicliz24 · 02/09/2023 12:23

Never ever provided you actually know the bands work .

@Xrays on no....people wanting to chat about a shared interest. How shocking 😂🙄

I know right. I am an antisocial introvert to be fair. 😆

HalfasleepChrisintheMorning · 02/09/2023 12:37

I saw Fleetwood Mac at Leeds Arena in 2015 and massively regret not buying a T shirt.
I don’t know what I was thinking.

This is sad. I've a t shirt and a hoody but I've seen them live 3 times 😁.

I dislike seeing children in Nirvana T-shirts - how do children appreciate the genius that was Nirvana ffs.

Only gen X should wear Nirvana tops.

otherwayup · 02/09/2023 20:14

Another week, another thread in which women question if they're 'too old' to wear something, have long hair etc etc

I'm beyond sick of it.
It's 2023. Do you feel good in it?
Great, then wear it.

BIWI · 02/09/2023 20:16

Why on earth would your age come into it?

If you like them
If you can afford them
If they fit you

... then crack on - whatever age you are!

CapEBarra · 02/09/2023 20:16

What the hell? If you love the band and you love the t-shirt then wear the t shirt and enjoy it. I’ve never once seen a man in Led Zeppelin t-shirt worrying about whether he’s too old to wear it.

Exactly 😂

Whichwhatnow · 02/09/2023 20:25

How could you be too old? I'm nearly 40 and buy a band t-shirt from every gig I go to, currently sat here in a Pixies one. Lots of older friends of mine still wear band stuff and go to gigs regularly. Tbh I find it more cringy when teenagers wear a Nirvana t-shirt or something from Primark with no clue about the music (loads of this round here!)

LolaSmiles · 02/09/2023 20:29

If you like the band and it's styled in your personal style then there's no such thing as too old.

If you don't like the band or have never heard of them, and you're buying into some fast fashion trend then it's probably going to look a bit awkward. That isn't an age thing though, although it might be perceived as more try hard on someone older.

Lots of adults in the generations younger than gen x. Anyway gen x are too old to even hear properly anymore, leave it to the younger ones who can hear all the tones to really appreciate it 😉

Alycidon · 02/09/2023 20:42

I love being Gen X 😊

My 14 year old son is playing Come as you are for his level one electric guitar exam next month! He's also playing 'Where is my mind' by the Pixies. His favourite bands include Foreigner, Nestor, Def Leppard and Ghost.

Only if you actually like their music. As a Nirvana fan I was slightly horrified to see Primark selling Nirvana t-shirts! The thought of some fashionista putting a Nirvana t-shirt on just made me think how Kurt would be turning in his grave.

I had loads as a teenager but they've all been lost I'm various moves. Shame as they were from the 90s so all my Grunge bands(still have the gig tickets though)!

That’s a shame. I collect vintage grunge/ alt-rock t-shirts and some are worth hundreds!

Op, you’re never too old. They’re basically just graphic tees. There’s no age when they don’t work if you style them well.

Ahwig · 23/06/2025 22:59

I’m 63 and started wearing them about 5 years ago. No plans to stop anytime soon.

SandrenaIsMyBloodType · 23/06/2025 23:14

i’m about to turn 55 and my family know that if I get hit by a bus, they should bury me in my Blondie sweatshirt. It was a toss up between that and my Dolly Parton tshirt but the Blondie sweatshirt is practically my second skin.
the fact that my immature inelegance horrifies my mother is just a bonus.

SandrenaIsMyBloodType · 23/06/2025 23:15

I very much want a Beastie Boys tshirt but haven’t found the one for me yet.

ZiggyPlaysGuitarrr · 23/06/2025 23:28

44 and wore my Nick Cave t shirt today!

LadyLucyWells · 23/06/2025 23:29

Never, obviously. Wear whatever you like.

SemperIdem · 23/06/2025 23:32

Band t-shirts have no age limit.

Jujujudo · 23/06/2025 23:32

Never too old for anything. I’m 51 and I DNGAS about anything. I wear tight jeans, Dr Martin boots, a band T-shirt from 1987 and I have a nose ring. I also wear a bikini and DNGAS about what anyone has to say about that.

JumpingDizzy · 23/06/2025 23:37

@honeylou42 posted in 2023 and didn't reply.

But you're never too old.
