Opinions - Uniqlo wool jumper

I’ve not lived back in the uk for long so not familiar with many shops outside of Marks & Spencer’s and next (only UK brands available where we used to live!).

i don’t live near a Uniqlo shop so can’t check quality in person - does anyone have their crew neck wool jumpers and can comment on what they are like in terms of quality, washing for etc? Do they pill badly? This one: is the one I’m thinking of getting?

if these arent any good, any recommendations for wool jumpers that do wash well? I prefer natural materials if possible. Budget is variable but probably not north of £50 if possible.

thanks!

I have two of these. Mine have washed well and are lovely and warm. Yes they bobble a bit, but not too badly. I have had no problem with shrinking and I wash in the machine on the wool setting. The merino ones are better quality, I have a couple of them too, but they are nowhere near as warm. I think both are really good value for money.

I had that jumper a few years back in a mustard colour and it was a disaster in terms of bobbling. I relegated it to loungewear very quickly. Because I am an idiot I then bought DP one from the men’s section for Christmas and it was the same.

I've had okay experience with Uniqlo jumpers but they do tend to be quite thin.

grass321 · 26/08/2023 15:56

I love Uniqlo clothes (including the merino jumpers). Really like that the cotton is decent quality that doesn't bobble, like GAP used to be back in the day.

Strangely my teenagers think it's cool too.

My lambswool has pilled a bit but the ultra fine merino is brilliant and lasts for years. I've not bought any for a few years as mine is still going strong but it all used to be wool mark, not sure if it still is

I bought exactly that same jumper last year from Uniqlo (I'm a great fan of them and tend to buy most of my wardrobe there). I got it in Charcoal grey, amazing quality, very thick, super warm and great for those cold UK winter days. One day (silly me) I washed it, dipped it in a bucket full of cold water for 8 hours, then hang it close to heater to dry. It has shrunk like 5 sizes and can't wear it anymore. Since then I don't buy lambswool jumpers.

Shite. Go all bobbly in no time.
I like the merino ones though.

LemonadeSunshine · 26/08/2023 19:32

I got one one of the Uniqlo men's wool; and one of their cashmere (in the sale!) and love both, they're snuggly but not too thick, smooth and easy to care for

Isabelle70 · 27/08/2023 19:54

I have that Uniqlo jumper and it shrunk when I washed it on a wool wash in the machine so I wouldn't recommend. However, I do recommend the Merino knitwear as I have about 14 items for work and they wash well.

Aw, I took a chance on the lambswool one today as the Community Clothing one I had my eye on is still out of stock. Hopefully it will be ok for the price though. Good to know about the shrinkage, I'll be extra careful when I wash it.

LoobyDop · 27/08/2023 20:35

I was so influenced by other people saying Uniqlo merino wool is amazing that I gave it two chances, and I wasn’t happy with either. Partly the sizing- I found the medium too baggy and the small too tight- but both looked scruffy and the merino wool was itchy and uncomfortable.

PingPowKaPowWow · 27/08/2023 20:47

Wool always shrinks when I wash it so I pretty much spot wash when I need to, and make sure I layer beneath the jumper, and they don't smell, the size remains the same, and pilling is minimal. I would recommend the Uniqlo wool items, but maintained on that basis.

Got two last year. Loved them but didn't realise they were hand wash only. I'm now making a small cushion out of what's left 🙄
