Mid-rise trousers for big tummy

I haven’t bought a pair of trousers, other than jeans, for years as I can’t find any that fit me properly. I carry all my weight around my middle, wide hips and big tummy. I have a waist because my hips are wide so not exactly an apple. My bum is average size but my thighs legs are disproportionately slimmer than my body. I’m a size 14 approx but need to go up a size so I can button trousers/ jeans, but then they are huge on my thighs and don’t fit anywhere other than my waist. I can’t wear high waisted at all. I’d love some wide legged trousers for work but really struggling to find any that fit my waist and aren’t swamping the rest of me. I’ve tried maternity jeans which kind of worked but I’d prefer to buy from regular ranges if possible. Can anyone help?

Would palazzo pants be an option? The ones that I have are elasticated at the back and the legs are wide.

something like this I found this at John Lewis & Partners. What do you think? https://www.johnlewis.com/john-lewis-jersey-wide-leg-trousers/p110247739?tmad=c&tmcampid=7&s_share=jlappios_Y29tLmFwcGxlLlVJS2l0LmFjdGl2aXR5Lk1lc3NhZ2U=

There's a recent thread about pull on trousers.

Robell are popular with my mum's age group. Robell Bella Full Length Trousers | So Simply
I have some and they are comfortable. They do ones with a zip too.
(I did feel that maybe I'd given up, but they're fine)

Thanks I will take a look at both. Elastic/stretch the way to go I think. I find the palazzo style tend not to look nice on me as they hang straight down from my widest point if you know what I mean. I’d like to find a pair that work though as they are so handy for dressing up or down.

I’m trying to avoid skinny/ leggings style as I just look like a parsnip with skinny legs and big tum.

If you wear things that skim your body, it looks better. Loose adds volume, and tight shows everything.

Look at different styles of jeans. Anything seems to go these days. The Gap long and lean (2nd hand) ones might suit you, or straight Levi's or similar. Supermarket jeans are worth a look.

Trouser-wise there are brands like NYDJ and Brax that are probably more forgiving.
M&S are great for lots of different styles.

BTW, you are probably critiquing your body quite harshly, and you might actually look absolutely fine.

Ginerous · 19/08/2023 18:03

Thanks, I agree that skimming is the way to go, I have just struggled to find trousers that do this! I have M&S flared jeans which I like as they balance me out. I mostly wear shirt dresses in the office or in the summer shorts and t-shirt when out with the kids etc. I also have big boobs 32g so now that I’m mud-forties have to work a bit harder not to look ‘matronly’.

Hi, I think we might have a similar look and I bought the River Island wide leg trousers after seeing a mid size blogger looking great in them. I wear an 18 and they are really nice though part of me does think I've ended up hiding in them.
