Copying another thread - what is your style in your 40's. And are you early/mid/late 40's?

OP posts:
Disturbia81 · 19/08/2023 12:05

Same as my 20s and 30s..

delilabell · 19/08/2023 17:28

I'm 40 (41 next month) and have lost 6stone. I'm finding a conpletly different style to what I used to wear! I love dresses, pinafores and leopard print, I'm discovering nice trainers and enjoy wearing handmade jewellery. I don't really know what my style is! I buy a lot from shein (please don't hate me) and vinted. Currently wearing a leopard print jumpsuit with a black tshirt. No way would I have wore this before!
I like some things from next, like boohoo and asos. But couldn't really define my style at the moment. How about you @summerdressing

D20 · 19/08/2023 17:42

As mixed as it has ever been I think. Today I’ve been wearing an Arket black midi tshirt dress with a khaki bomber jacket. Tomorrow I might wear a Toast corduroy dress and sandals.

Theunamedcat · 19/08/2023 17:43

Jeans and tshirts unfortunately I lost any sense of style years ago

SingingSands · 19/08/2023 18:02

Active wear

Niftyswiftie · 19/08/2023 18:14

Same as what I've always worn. Today I've got on short cycling shorts, oversized t shirt, socks and crocs

BuntyCollocks · 19/08/2023 18:14

I’m embracing quiet luxury - just turned 40, lost 11 stone along with my tits and arse so now I can wear all the stuff I wanted to in earlier life and could.
I very much was into colour, loud patterns etc when bigger, probably to distract from my size. Now, neutrals and classics.

Doggymummar · 19/08/2023 18:16

Lost 4stone this year and yet to go shopping so today was leggings and a linen t shirt from M and S. Until I REACH goal weight, I will be buying cheap as I am planning a whole new capsule wardrobe for size 8 me

otherwayup · 19/08/2023 20:00

Same as always.
I'm very stubborn and have a very particular look, mostly vintage, little minis with a striped t shirt etc
I remember saying as a teenager I would always look like this and I've managed it, I'm 52 and am the same weight, have the same hair etc

My point is that there shouldn't be rules or expectations as we age about what we wear.
I'm happy being 'me' and feel good dressed the way I do.
Op, just wear the clothes you feel and look good in. Your age is irrelevant!

👌🏼
Not changing my style or cutting my hair for no-one and hopefully ours and future generations are getting less sheepy

Summerslimtime · 21/08/2023 15:38

Fucked.

Seriously.

mistermagpie · 21/08/2023 15:45

Scruffy to be honest and a bit studenty (as in, the way I dressed when I was a student, not the way they dress now).

Jeans, t-shirts, trainers. Occasionally a chunky boot, sweatshirts in the winter. I essentially wear the same stuff to work as I do at home.

I'm 43 and have got three quite young children so nobody is expecting me to look shit hot, but I'm tall and slim and fairly conventionally attractive so most things look ok.

I would love to have a 'style' but I don't know where to start. I'm at the poorer end of my group of friends and the richer ones are all boden, seasalt, scamp and dude and mint velvet and then that sort of 'floral dress with Veja trainers' like an off-duty Kate Middleton, and I wouldn't be caught dead in any of that to be honest. I think I'd be scruffy even if I did have money...

louderthan · 21/08/2023 16:15

I'm 42 and dress much as I did in my 30s.
In summer: long skirts, cropped trousers, shorts if it's warm enough. I don't suit pale colours so lots of monochrome and primary colours. Metallics, neon and animal print for special occasions. I've got about 30 pairs of trainers.
In winter lots of short skirts with black tights and various breeds of boots, although most of last winter I was wearing my 90s style Buffalo trainers. Shirts, embellished jumpers, lots of blazer and bomber type jackets. Sometimes a long straight skirt, also with boots or said trainers. I like tailored trousers as long as they're not plain. I spent most of last winter in an astronaut-style silver puffer coat which was like wearing a sleeping bag. I've got a barbour for rain, a tweed Crombie style coat and a bright orange trench coat which gets endless compliments.

louderthan · 21/08/2023 16:17

I get most of my clothes off Vinted now, with some stuff from charity shops and the odd bit of Primark, H&M, ASOS etc.

sonjadog · 21/08/2023 17:53

Dresses, skirts and dungarees mainly. Trainers or DMs. Denim jacket or wool coat. It hasn’t changed much except that I like longer skirts now. I stopped wearing minis some years ago. Also, I like to show less boob than when I was younger.

TheCyclingGorilla · 21/08/2023 17:57

Primarni & Very catalogue.

itsnothingoriginal · 21/08/2023 18:24

Sadly I've gained rather than lost weight (damn you perimenopause!) so in my late 40s it's all about dressing to hide my burgeoning stomach.

I'm still into the same stuff as in my 30s which I'd describe as a lot of Hush, a bit preppy and mostly jeans and T shirts. I love my accessories and trainers and spend more on them than my clothes these days.

Maybe it's worth trying a personal stylist, OP. I follow Clare Lopez on Instagram who is brilliant and 40plus for style tips.

LovefromPickles · 21/08/2023 18:27

Outdoorsy / active wear
I’m 41.

(I am genuinely sporty, not just someone who wears activewear yet never works out!)

EconomyClassRockstar · 21/08/2023 18:48

I'm late 40s and am currently wearing dusky pink mom style shorts, cream vest, pink Birkenstocks and a pair of Chloe sunglasses. My stores of choice tend to be the middle of the road ones, Anthropologie, Madewell, Aritzia, Free People, etc.

MollyVolley · 21/08/2023 18:56

I’m late 40’s and still same size all my life bar pregnancies. I prefer winter than summer. In winter wear a lots of skinnies with ankle boots or trainers/ skirts and boots and tons of naice knitwear and dresses. Wear wide legged trousers as well/ shirts. Didn’t wear shirts until my forties. Summer is more of a struggle 😂
Not mad into patterns

Wear Arket, Cos, Sessun (favourite brand atm)
Maje, Reformation buy most clothes on sale

Lucky enough to really know what I like and suits me at this point and have bought a lot of lovely stuff the last couple of years. Also feel like I have enough clothes for a bit and definitely paying a little more has given me more choices.

I do wear active wear as I have got very outdoorsy in the last few years I run/climb/hike and work somewhere where activewear is totally acceptable but prefer to keep it for weekends otherwise I wouldn’t wear half my clothes

ItsRainingTacos79 · 21/08/2023 19:42

I'm 45 and from my late 30s I went capsule wardrobe. Getting ready is so much easier.

RedPandaFluff · 21/08/2023 21:16

I'm 43 with a newborn so my style is currently maternity leggings and oversized t-shirts, often with little patches of baby sick on them Grin

Howtosolveit · 21/08/2023 21:38

Increasingly focussed on high quality but simple clothes (could also be 'quiet luxury' I guess). Also fewer colours: I am very into all shades of brown, camel and cream which sounds very boring but I am loving it. I am increasingly not arsed by anything in life (in a good way) and complicated style is included in that. I love browns and am embracing them.

Whatsthepoint1234 · 21/08/2023 21:39

Almost 40 with two dc. My style is what ds13 calls ‘mumcore’ currently wearing pep n Co skinny fit jeans, plain pale pink Boden t shirt, dh’s mahoosive navy blue Borg lined hoodie (from quba sails I think) and my new schnauzer slippers I found in dunelm. Normally I wear pretty much that apart from the fact I wear my own hoodie (usually Superdry, quba sails or m and s) and my own shoes (Stan smiths or burgundy doc martens) - my family tell me I dress dreadfully!

annlee3817 · 21/08/2023 22:56

42 and my mum describes my style as understated.... I live in jeans and plain tops, as others have said, I'd love to have a sense of style, but it seems to have gone out of the window since having DD2 last year
