Blue Mascara - Yay or Nay (Aged 45)

Saw a woman in late thirties (guessing) today, wearing electric blue mascara and blue liner. Looked very cool, the rest of her outfit was quite grungy, so perhaps that made it edgy rather than agey 😂

I have deep-set, hooded eyes, so not much to play with in terms of eye shadow. Always kept it safe with neutrals. On Pinterest all models with his look are young. I have thought to tone it down with maybe navy mascara and bright liner, but hers seemed to be the look you have to commit to full on bright or else it’s lost in compromise.

Is it worth trying it or is this one I am going to regret spending £10 - £15 on and feel like it’s too late to experiment now, in mid-forties?

iOne of the advantages of getting older is people stop critiquing how you look, because you're not relevant looks-wise. It turns out this frees you up. I've been wearing electric blue mascara for months now, and I remember it from the 70s. If you've got grey/blue eyes blue mascara is great with gold shadow. And, no, your mid-forties are when you should be experimenting 🙂

I did the coloured mascara last time round and must admit I defo can’t get my head round doing it again, lol. If I see someone with it who looks cool, I may change my mind of course, but it smacks of the 80s to me (nothing wrong with that, just been there done that, lol)

Ask yourself this: what does it really matter if someone thinks it looks daft? Do what you want. Who decides when you are too old to experiment with your look?

Yep, definitely. My mum is a smartly dressed woman in her 60s and she often wears blue eyeliner and mascara, and it looks great. Not OTT at all, even though the concept sound it.

All the ayes! I was ridiculously pleased when blue mascara & liners reappeared. It does wonders for my (blue-grey) eyes. I feel it's somewhat rejuvenating.

I'd love to wear the BRIGHT blue ones or turquoise, as I did in ye olden days, but atm I've only got dark blue.

Blue mascara’s back in? Fantastic! Bloody love that stuff. Really lifts the complexion and makes eye whites look whiter.

I've not used Barry M mascara but I buy their eyeshadow, liner and nail varnish and it's fab.

Oh exciting, I'd like to give blue mascara a go, and I'm in my 50s. I'd like to see a link to any good ones people find as well.

I love it ! I often use blue eyeshadow mixed with a bit of setting spray to use as eyeliner , I need to find a good eyeliner pencil in electric blue but yeah go for it !

Is there a shade of blue that would suit brown/hazel eyes?

This thread has got me very excited. I wore electric blue eye liner and mascara teamed with iridescent pink eyeshadow as a teen in the 70s/80s. I might have to explore this again. Now I am in my 60s I don't give a shit what people think!

I’m 70, and I would love green or purple mascara (again, probably third time round here!) must have a look online and see!

My mums go to is Urban Decay. I was with her when she bought it the first time, and was very much thinking “really?!”, but like I said, looks great on her. She does very normal make up, as in nothing colourful, and then uses the blue eyeliner and mascara.

YSL are doing quite a bright blue one. I love YSL mascaras.

I have brown/hazel eyes , I much prefer navy to bright blue .
There were loads of tips in the 80s (I am old !) about using the colour at the base then doing the ends in brown/black or do use the blue just on the very ends .

I'd use a bronze or dark gold liner or a grey/navy rather than bright .

Barry M does really nice Metallics liners , very soft/
I have an amethyst one that looks brilliant with my eyes .

Ok well I went to Boots, I had 2 options. No7 intense lash in navy and Collection in a more electric blue.

I got the navy. It just looks like black really. Excuse the state of my eyebrows!

I’m up for trying it! I have a lovely teal metallic eyeliner pencil which I love.
I think the navy looks good but agree it’s not really obviously blue.
