Blue Mascara - Yay or Nay (Aged 45)

Saw a woman in late thirties (guessing) today, wearing electric blue mascara and blue liner. Looked very cool, the rest of her outfit was quite grungy, so perhaps that made it edgy rather than agey 😂

I have deep-set, hooded eyes, so not much to play with in terms of eye shadow. Always kept it safe with neutrals. On Pinterest all models with his look are young. I have thought to tone it down with maybe navy mascara and bright liner, but hers seemed to be the look you have to commit to full on bright or else it’s lost in compromise.

Is it worth trying it or is this one I am going to regret spending £10 - £15 on and feel like it’s too late to experiment now, in mid-forties?

I used to use a benefit bad gal bright blue which I found lovely. Haven't seen it around lately, though we don't have any dept stores nearby any more

@Seddon there is a maybeline snapscara (whatever that is) in black cherry on Amazon for £4.50! I’m going to order it in the blue.

Bless you @Fraaahnces but you're not even half the age of the women on here who can remember blue eyeliner and mascara from the last yime it was fashionable.

If you can, get your eyelashes tinted blue black. Really makes your eyes pop!

I work in a make up shop and the amount of older lady's come in for blue mascara, they look amazing!

If that's what you want to try, try it.
If you don't like it it's easy enough to wipe off and try again.

So you don't spend £10-15 on blue mascara

If you take a side view photo of your eyelashes can you see the colour better ?

Just tried, no they still look black from the side. Not posting that photo, I'm not enjoying the close-ups of my wrinkles and eyebrows!

I also went to Boots, didn’t buy any but liked No7 navy one and their blue eyeliner which is more purple blue than straight bright blue. But reviews are bad, does not sharpen. Also really liked Max Factor blue liner. Swatched all blue liners in stock, these two were the nicest.

I use L'Oreal Voluminous 'cobalt blue' and it's an electric blue, rather than navy. I use it with brown and gold shadow. I have grey-blue eyes. When I started using it I loved it so much I ordered two more, in case they stopped producing the colour. OP, I really don't think you have to go full-on bright unless you want to, and if you do then do it. If you look in the mirror and think, 'I'm looking okay, I like this', it doesn't matter what anyone else thinks.

I have green eyes and use diorshow electric blue! Any recommendations for a plum/burgundy?

After reading this thread I found a Maybelline in dark cherry and a L'Oreal in deep burgundy. I then found a Youtube comparing the two, and went for the L'Oreal as it's a softer shade. I bought a plum eyeliner too, can't wait for them to arrive!

At the weekend I tried the blue from this Iris Apfel Ciate palette on my upper eyelid in a line wet and then powder over the top and fine dark brown line in lower lash line.

Not sure I’d do blue mascara.

I love blue mascara! I'm 56. My favourite everyday navy is Boots No7 - I think it's called Intense Lash. I don't tend to wear the really bright shades.

But if you are after brighter blues (or purples/greens) which won't break the bank, look at Kiko Milano.

I wear it with smudgy eyeliner - I have a whole pencil pot of different shades.

OK, for anyone interested in the burgundy derail!

My L'Oreal Voluminous mascara in deep burgundy has arrived.

I like it. The effect is very subtle but then my lashes are very dark. Nobody is going to scream OMG LOOK AT THE COLOUR OF YOUR LASHES! but it's clearly not black.

I have very changeable hazel eyes so it's always interesting to see the effects of different colours against them. This mascara emphasises the gold flecks. It's a nice, soft everyday look. And a nice, thin, non clumpy formula.

@Seddon Exciting! Would you be able to share a picture, at least one eye?

Again my weird coloured eyes are being weird and the camera makes them look different to what I see in the mirror... but here goes! Mascara is just on the top lashes.

I think navy mascara on fair skinned people with coloured eyes look absolutely fine and doesn't stand out like electric blue or bright colours.
I think some mid 40s women have great skin like some Asian and Black women.. I do think neon eye make up is for cool younger people or those whogenuinely look young or older and kooky with a IDGAF attitude.

Just because something looks good on someone else doesn't mean it will look good on us, too.
