Anthropologie ballet shoes

I have seen these online and have developed serious shoe lust, but not tried on as my local branch of Anthropologie doesn’t stock them. What do you think? I’m wondering what I’d wear ballet shoes with, they’re satin and I think have a material sole, so not much good in the endless rain in the UK. I’m obsessing about them, please either talk me out of them or give me outfit inspiration to order them online. Link to ballet shoes

There will be a flotilla along shortly to tell you that ballet flats are "dated" and how terrible they are for your feet.

Those are very pretty. I don't have any with straps like that but I would wear them with any summer dress of any length - or if I wore jeans then the same as the model. They're lovely, but are still just a flat shoe- style as any other flat shoe.

OpheliaPlum · 05/08/2023 07:50

Thank you @NatashaDancing. I wear jeans and summer dresses. Thinking of them as any other flat shoe is helpful. More worried about how I’ll keep the satin clean than them being dated. I knew ballet flats are over, but not that they are bad for feet. Yikes.

They are supposed to be terrible for your feet. I have been wearing them for decades with no problems. I don't wear them exclusively and I have a lot of shoes, so I suppose not wearing the same shoes or style all the time has prevented any issues.

Oh and they're not over or dated. I think the pair you've picked are lovely but you won't get a great deal of hard wear out of them.

greenteaandmarshmallows · 05/08/2023 08:17

They're gorgeous

Lapflop · 05/08/2023 08:19

I think they're gorgeous, I'd also have reservations over the material in the weather we have, but would wear them on evenings out. I have a cheaper pair from ASOS that have actually been a lot more comfortable, harder wearing and versatile than I thought they'd be (same style different material and colour) and always get comments asking where they're from.

I'd order them and try them on, Anthropolgie have a decent returns policy (although can take a while to get the money back into your account). As for outfits I think they go with a lot of things- jeans, longer length skirts and dresses etc.

You can get them directly from Circle NY

PatTesting · 05/08/2023 08:21

I love those but I’d only wear them inside.

OOlivePenderghast · 05/08/2023 08:30

I think they look lovely but wouldn’t wear them because I find ballet flats so uncomfortable. I also read an article recently about how ballet flats are back.

OpheliaPlum · 05/08/2023 08:31

Thank you all for your ideas and inspiration for wearing them. I’m thinking of lots of possibilities now!

Big thanks also to @Mamette for the link to buy direct. Do you think they will come from the US and that returns will be a faff? Will there be a customs charge? Sorry for lots of questions. I’ve never ordered from a US site before.

@OOlivePenderghast That news has swung it. I’m going to order them, just deciding whether to go to Anthropolgie online or order direct.

I'd go through anthropolgie personally if they have to be shipped here otherwise. There are usually discount codes as well if you sign up to the newsletter etc.

Mamette · 05/08/2023 09:02

OP I have never ordered from them. They do ship to the U.K. yes, there are quite a few details on the website and you can change shipping location/ currency etc. Duties etc seem to be dealt with at checkout.

I’d imagine returns would be a faff though!

OpheliaPlum · 05/08/2023 09:06

Thank you everyone. I’ve ordered from Anthropologie, just because of the returns issue. I’ll update when they arrive.

ballet shoes are back big time.

However satin isn't great although they are dark at least. They always look good with cropped trousers or jeans.

NatashaDancing · 05/08/2023 09:13

They never really went away.

OpheliaPlum · 05/08/2023 09:25

Happy to have shared my shoe lust with such encouraging people. You’ve made my Saturday!

They did in terms of the "key style" but like everything the cycles come back around.

Haha, well observed and funny. True, every time

EvenlyDetermined · 05/08/2023 09:57

I think they look lovely, its true you don't see many wearing them at the moment but I think the only ones that look dated are the ones with little bows or flowers on the toes. The straps probably make them better for your feet too as they will hold them on.

NoAprilFool · 05/08/2023 10:29

They’re so pretty. I’d wear them to waft around the house feeling glam.

bunnybunnybunnybunny · 05/08/2023 11:14

I love wearing flats and ballet-style shoes. (My most recent pair are bejewelled mesh from Loeffler Randall).

While the Anthropologie ones are not my style, don't be put off by the fact they're fabric. Over the years, I have had several pairs of satin/fabric ballet slippers, and all wore well and lasted quite a few years, It's just a question of being sensible and only wearing them when it's a light drizzle, rather than in the pouring rain. Also, to rotate them with other shoes. But none of this is rocket science anyway!

ivykaty44 · 05/08/2023 11:21

how terrible they are for your feet.

They aren't terrible for your feet, for some people they have feet in bad condition and then need supportive footwear and they can't wear them.

Oinkypig · 05/08/2023 11:43

They are so beautiful, I want the green ones so much! I have those new look ones and I have had quite a few comments about them being so nice. Need to wait until I get paid next month! Let us know how they are in real life please?
