Worst beauty fails? Just for fun

Sitting here waiting for the timer to run out so I can wash out the hair dye. Put an auburn (5WR) in and nearly had a stroke when my hairline turned purple (it’s settled into auburn now). Had me wondering what the worst beauty fails others have had?

My absolute worst was tweezing my brows for the first time at 15 y/o. One was higher and shorter than the other, and no amount of filling in could hide something was amiss. Went to my very first job the next day looking rightly confused 🤨

I've ended up with almost jet black hair instead of brown. It's a colour I can't carry tbh. It makes me look like a zombie but we can always tie our hair! Eyebrows we can go in with a pencil and make it look better while they grow.
Now, if you're looking for an epic fail let me tell you about when I was 13 or 14ish and saw self-tanner for sale at the supermarket when looking for tanning oil! And I thought, wooooow, I could go from blending with the wall to having a nice golden tan without going on holiday! Brilliant! Wow!
So I slobber the stuff, because I'm really pale, so obviously I need more right? Sure I do, so I slobber some more because it's not showing and it smells soooo nice. Also didn't wash my hands because it smells so nice and it's so smooth...! See where this is going? I went to bed very disappointed for wasting money and having my hopes of sunkissed skin dashed and woke up the next day looking very orangey-ish and I won't even tell you about my hands and that this was at a time when google wasn't a thing yet. 😂You know it takes a few days for it to even fade a bit right? How's that for a fail?!

Age 16 I bleached my hair.
It went peachy orange and extremely dry and frizzy. I hated it.

It's natural dark blonde and very curly. Iy cost a lot of money to sort out.

Backtothe90splease · 16/07/2023 19:14

When I was about 12/13 I met an older girl who had very thick orange makeup on with a major tide line around her jaw. Being very naive I thought this was very very cool and sophisticated as she was wearing loads of makeup. Next time my mum went out I raided her makeup and carefully applied an absolute ton of the stuff, complete with very deliberate tide line between the orange foundation and white skin of my neck.

I went to catch the bus into town feeling right pleased with myself, showing off my tide line with pride. My mum saw me a few hours later when she picked me up and her face was a picture Grin

GiddyGladys · 16/07/2023 19:29

I decided to wax my eyebrows at home.

I put on the strips where I thought was best to catch all the straggly hairs. Pulled one eyebrow clean off.

ursuslemonade · 16/07/2023 19:34

I've read somewhere that you can remove hair from your legs by using pumice stone. 13 year old me went for it to rub my mustache off. Took a week for the wounds on my skin to heal. I looked ridiculous. And it hurt like hell.

NatTheGnat · 16/07/2023 19:36

Put a red tinted glaze on my strawberry blonde hair. Left it on for the minimum time (2 tiny little minutes). Washed it off and it was FIRE ENGINE red and patchy. I also had covid at the time I did it so couldn't go out to get it fixed or to buy anything to fix it 😩😂.

Ordered next day delivery awful chemical hair stripper and a box of dye. I could have done so much damage but luckily it worked and my hair looked reasonably normal colour. Even with not being allowed out, I couldn't stand the bright red hair!

As a kid I also let friends cut my hair twice 😬. Once was bad but I was only about 5 so didn't care. The other I was 13 or 14 and it was awful.

I've also dyed my hair while living in a hut in the middle of nowhere with only cold running water. Why? God knows! The results? As you would expect 😳😂

BigMandsTattooPortfolio · 16/07/2023 19:51

I decided to let my brother play at being my hairdresser - we were 3 and 4 respectively. The results were horrendous.

BetiYeti · 16/07/2023 20:12

When home highlighting kits first came out, I asked my sister to highlight my hair. The result was huge uneven streaks of blonde through my hair. It looked nothing like the result on the box and I cried.

My mum insisted we had the cheapest hairdresser around, who was a mobile hairdresser who charged a fiver a cut (late 90s). I showed her a photo of what I wanted done, which was a short choppy cut. The hairdresser did an ok job - or so I thought, until I washed my hair and saw how unevenly cut my hair was. With no chance of being able to style it, I went to school with a ton of hair clips in to try and tidy it up. Took ages to grow out.

BobbinThreadbare123 · 16/07/2023 20:16

Let's face it, the eyebrows in the late 90s. Bit skinny.

ThePoshUns · 16/07/2023 20:19

I bleached my eyebrows as thought it would look a better match to my newly bleached hair.
Had orange eyebrows for a months or so.

IrisBearded · 16/07/2023 20:37

About 13yrs old, tried to shave my legs with a bic razor, dry razor and dry legs. I took chunks out of my skin, blood everywhere!

SindyisbetterthanBarbie · 16/07/2023 20:43

Also dry shaving age about 14. Razor nicked a little bit of skin at the bottom of my shin and pulled the skin upwards towards my knee. Walked round with plasters all up my shin for days

DerekFaker · 16/07/2023 20:47

Omg Sindy!

msmonstera · 16/07/2023 20:49

At about 14 I took the skin off my nose with one of those blackhead remover strips. Turns out I'm allergic to one of the ingredients in it.
14 years old with a red scabby nose. I still shudder.

Iheartmysmart · 16/07/2023 20:51

I must have been about 10 when I decided to cut my hair using my mum’s pinking shears. It ended up about an inch long all over, with a weird zigzag fringe. Inspired by my new look I then gave next door’s Old English Sheepdog a haircut.

And I once put henna on bleached blonde hair thinking I’d go a nice strawberry blonde. Nope, I looked like one of those flashing beacons by zebra crossings.

Many more hair disasters followed.

ChadCMulligan · 16/07/2023 20:52

Around 13 years old I had grasped the idea that mascara makes eyelashes appear longer and thicker. Surely then the same would apply to my nascent facial hair giving me the appearance of thick and luxurious beard, and with this new found beard I'd surely look old enough at the off licence.

No. Cheap mascara applied to bum fluff looks nothing like an actual beard, I think the beard that I had drawn on me for a 6th birthday fancy dress party was more realistic.

The staff at that off licence were not fooled at all.

Lagershandy · 16/07/2023 20:58

Not me, but a girl at school heard that if you trimmed your eyelashes they would grow quicker. They don't.

dudsville · 16/07/2023 21:00

Epic fails... my mother went from dark brown to white when very young so took to dying her hair blonde. She bought the wrong box and one night we had to run to the shops to see what they had to cover her strawberry red hair!

Mine about the same time, 80's, these perms were popular. On new i looked a lot like Lionel Richey. Now i loved the album he had out at the time, but still.

I'll never live down the time i wore my beautiful plaid skirt to work with knee high white socks. Highland dancer anyone?

Blanketsburg · 16/07/2023 21:02

Tried to give myself a pixie crop. I can't explain it, just seemed a good idea at the time. How hard could it be, I thought.

No excuse - I was in my THIRTIES at the time 😳

Beanie + bus + straight to Supercuts so they could fix it. It looked really good after though!

LancashireSquirrel · 16/07/2023 21:16

Cutting my own fringe.

I can't even blame it on being young and naive.

I'm 37 and I cut it last week.

Big regret.

singJoanna · 16/07/2023 22:14

Tried to bleach my own hair years ago.. it went green.
But Christmas this year I thought I'd put a dark blonde box dye on to save money on getting my roots done, had a massive allergic reaction.. looked like Quisimodo!!
Along with looking horrendous it was also very painful and had to stay 2 nights in hospital.

GettingStuffed · 16/07/2023 23:19

Another hair one, I decided I'd henna my hair to make it darker and redder than natural dark blonde. Unfortunately my har was a bit too light and it went brick red. Artificial colours weren't allo

GettingStuffed · 16/07/2023 23:20

In school but not one teacher said anything

MrsMoastyToasty · 16/07/2023 23:25

From 1980 to 1989. I was a teenager. 'Nuff said.
