I really like this dress but in the real world...

What do you do with the neckline to make it decent for eg work? Would a camisole under it ruin it?

Yes or see if you can pin it

Meeting · 09/07/2023 13:52

On the third picture it looks like they've pinned it to be more closed, that looks fine to me. It's lovely.

Lemoncurdslice · 09/07/2023 13:53

Pretty sure there’s a little concealed button to close it up, as shown in third and fourth pictures

Jumbojem · 09/07/2023 13:54

The first pic, where it appears very low, it looks like the popper is undone. The 3rd pic shows it done up much higher in the chest and looks perfectly acceptable for daytime? Otherwise a small stitch (if you want a perm fix) or a discretely placed pin will do the job.

ItsJustNotHappening · 09/07/2023 14:13

I have a dress from Reiss with a really low neckline and I just put a plain black thin strap cami underneath. It still looks lovely.

Mercurial123 · 09/07/2023 14:33

I agree you can see the popper on the first photo. The model has it closed on later photos

XiCi · 09/07/2023 15:32

There's a button on there that's open in 1st pic and closed on 3rd

Themaghag · 09/07/2023 16:16

That's a beautiful dress! A cami would work, but personally, I'd just pin it. I have several dresses of the same ilk and always use a safety pin to preserve modesty!

ClaraBourne · 09/07/2023 16:23

If you look closely thee is a popper fastening!

Goldfoot · 09/07/2023 16:25

Hmm, yes you're right there's a popper. Doesn't it look a bit frumpy with the popper done up...changes the look completely, although obviously I can't have it both ways 😆

Put a camisole under it for work.
In reality to have it fully open like in the first picture you'd have to be braless anyway, or use a lot of tape.

Mirabai · 09/07/2023 16:32

I think it does look a bit frumpy with the popper but that’s mainly because of the blocky print. The popper is definitely better for the workplace. While a good idea in theory I think a cami with it will feel quite revealing for work - I say this as I have some wrap dresses I have to wear a cami underneath.

FatAgainItsLettuceTime · 09/07/2023 16:37

I'd get a cami, something in a matching shade of light blue or navy can5 figure out if the third in this pack is navy or black

StopStartStop · 09/07/2023 18:11

Love it. If it doesn't look so good with popper or pin, put the camisole into action.

Keykat · 09/07/2023 19:53

Try for a different dress. It's nice, but faffing around to try and make it ok for you is not ideal.

OldBeller · 09/07/2023 19:57

Yeah you could do it up. Might pop open or look strained if you're not as flat chested as her though. I'd prefer it open with a nice vest.

That model looks very tall, though. I'd be worried that would come too long to be flattering on me. How tall are you?

caringcarer · 09/07/2023 20:31

A pretty little broach might pin it together a bit. I've got a few broaches. I like them on my jacket lapel. My kids laugh and say I'm trying to be like the late Queen but you can get some really pretty ones.

CC4712 · 09/07/2023 20:39

You can buy a partial cami- which attaches to each bra strap and just covers the cleavage bit- rather than having to wear a whole cami. Lots online. Otherwise- just get another dress!

dudsville · 09/07/2023 20:39

If you zoom in on that first pic you can see the snap that's in use in later pics.

ireallycantthinkofaname · 09/07/2023 20:45

plain cami would be fine or as pp have said pin it. It's gorgeous!

can you link to what you mean please? I'm not finding anything on searching 'partial cami', but something like that would be really useful for me

ShowOfHands · 09/07/2023 20:50

As I tell my students, no wearing your shirt buttoned and rolling down your skirt does not make you look "frumpy" and we need to move away from telling women that covering up is somehow less desirable.

If you prefer the neckline without the popper, go with a cami but it's not "frumpy" to use the popper.

Can you tell I'm on a one woman crusade to change the way we talk about women's fashion?!

ireallycantthinkofaname · 09/07/2023 20:51

Wait, never mind. Of course as soon as I posted that I found what you meant!

FWIW they're called 'modesty panels', and I wish I'd known about them sooner!

Monkeypopcorn · 09/07/2023 21:39

I find that every wrap style dress I buy like this needs to be pinned in order to be appropriate for work. Most bought from h&m or next work wear sections. Baffles me who actually fits the dresses without having to pin them!
