HIgh waist jeans with flare

I think that high waist jeans would help keep the wobbly tummy in place and the flare would balance out the wide hips. Am a size 14. I am totally prepared to treat myself to an expensive pair as I haven't bought myself anything like this in a long time, but.. which ones? Or do I in fact need an expensive pair - would the top shop ones be just as good? Yesterdays Guardian says that Radcliffe SW3's are good, and they are £145 online. I'll do it, but's its a lot of money and I want to be sure. Any recommendations? Anyone got the Radcliffe ones?

Oh don't do it! I don't think even Kate Moss carry these off

You'd be better off with a nice bootcut

scanner · 24/02/2008 14:50

Yeees, but it's the high waist bit I want really - bootcut would be more in my comfort zone tbh.

I got a great pair in Asda for 8 quid. Try out a cheapo pair to see if you like them before commiting loads of cash to them. They don't really work unless you are tall.

flowerybeanbag · 24/02/2008 14:59

scanner I've just ordered some on the basis of that in the Guardian on the basis that I'll send them back if they don't work, will let you know.

woodenchair · 24/02/2008 16:16

I tried to get a pair of the Asda 8 quid ones last year, but failed miserably, left it too late.

Scanner like you it's the high waisted bit I like, I bought a pair of high waisted trousers in the winter and they are sooo comfy. I feel really safe in them iykwim, don't worry about muffin top or builders bum!

Moomin · 24/02/2008 16:21

Have you heard about these? A friend at work bought a pair recently and loves them so much she says she wants to be buried in them! She said they definitely make her look at least 1 size smaller.

noddyholder · 24/02/2008 16:23

I tried a pair on and they were surprisingly flattering.

Flibbertyjibbet · 24/02/2008 16:43

I have been saying for years that high waisted trousers and jeans are more flattering and comfortable but no-one beleived me!

These tummy tuck jeans just look like normal jeans to me

DualCycloneCod · 24/02/2008 16:49

yest times said the next ones are good

woodenchair · 24/02/2008 19:20

Do you know how much they were?

scanner · 24/02/2008 20:39

The tummy tuck ones will be worth a go, I've looked at there's a shop fairly nearby. I've got an appointment tomorrow that's near a Next, so will pop in and give their ones a go. Anything to say goodbye to the muffin top, I'm quite tall so I think the flare/larger bootleg would work for me.

Top Shop is also nearby to Next, so if I have time I'll try them too, if I can face the sales assistants looking at me as if I'm their Mum's.

flowerybeanbag · 24/02/2008 20:42

will do!

southeastastra · 24/02/2008 21:35

i have the topshop ones, the waist isn't really that high. they're were about £40. but try the tighter ones because they stretch a bit.

scanner · 25/02/2008 19:06

So, I popped into town today and tried the top shop ones one, but I got what Trinny & Suzannah so nicely call 'camel toe' - so that was a no no.

Next didn't have the high waist version, but the kick flare supposedly had a natural waist. It was just a tad too low for the wobble, so high would be best.

Having said that the general look was good and flattering, I just need to find the right pair.

Am most keen to hear about the Radcliffe ones.

Woodenchair I have a pair of size 14 asda high waisted wide leg jeans that are too short for me if you want them?

flowerybeanbag · 27/02/2008 15:00

Just had an email, my radcliffe jeans have been despatched, should be here tomorrow..

woodenchair · 28/02/2008 14:24

Thanks for the offer trixy that's kind, but I'm a 16 and a curvey one too.

I'm hoping either Asda or primark get some more in this year. Can you tell I don't spend much on clothes

namechangeforobriousreason · 28/02/2008 14:25

H&M are doing great ones at the moment.

southeastastra · 28/02/2008 14:26

Monkeybird · 28/02/2008 14:43

TillyScoutsmum · 28/02/2008 14:48

7 for all Mankind - high waisted boot cut here. Supposed to be fantastic.

Next Directory have them, as to John lewis and Selfridges. Am off to try some on at the weekend.

Let us know what the Radcliffe are like

bundle · 28/02/2008 14:50

aren't uniqlo jeans supposed to be the dogs?

flowerybeanbag · 28/02/2008 14:53

Radcliffe are still not here yet. I'm getting a sore bum from sitting under the letterbox. Grrr! I need them for the weekend (assuming they are nice) so I can pose!

trixymalixy · 29/02/2008 11:47

Try on ebay woodenchair. I'm bidding on another pair of the size 14 longer length ones at the mo.
