I came here before xmas moaning and ranting about bra fitting in M&S, and the fact that my bra's don;t fit, yet M&S tell me to lose weight instead of measuring me properly.

and all that after I have lost (apparently) too much weight anyway since my (3rd) car accident, and am now in a sz6 jeans!!!!

anyhoo........

came for a rant, and got good advice (thanks to thos that did), and went today (finally!!!!) to john lewis.

what a refreshing experience. the lady was lovely.....measured me by looking and judging (slightly disconcerting, but still, she didn;t comment except by offering good advice about the bra I was wearing in a very nice way), and then went and got bras for me and helped me lots....and then when I had that slight bulge under my arms (which I hate and always comment on), she just said..."oh, for goodness sake, we all get that a little....tis part of being a sexy woman!".

what a difference to the M&S ladt who told me to go lose weight and tone up!!!.

I am now the proud owner of a fab new Triumph bra (not that sexy I admit, but god, how much sexier I feel!), altho £25 lighter.

I am most shocked tho by the difference the right sixe and bra makes to how I feel and look.......DH immediatly noticed ( and ), and I kept looking at myself cos of the way my clothes looked......BETTER!grin]

and........I felt taller and as tho my boobs were held better, and my chest too. sounds strange, but I am truly shocked by the difference.

BTW....I am now a 32C or 32D (depending on style), after years of thinking I am/was a 34C.
shocked is an understatement......

I was measured in M&S admittedly a good few years ago. Was measured on the shop floor, over my clothes (bulky sweatshirt!) and was told I was a 34A. I think at the time I was really around a 36D

The results at M&S are somewhat "variable" aren't they. Some fitters seem better than others.

msappropriate · 24/02/2008 20:00

I went to Rigby and Peller and was disappointed that after looking at me and trying on loads of bras they gave me the same size as normal. But the bras are sooo lovely. I don't think they were ther own make but they have lasted years longer than other bras and fit so much better. As soon as I finish bf am going again, they have a branch in Brent Cross bow.

AitchTwoOh · 24/02/2008 20:07

the woman in bravissimo said that you shouldn't be getting measured at all, that if the fitter couldn't grab some good bras for you by sight then they shouldn't be in the job. she HATES m&s fitters, mind you...

minxiemoo · 24/02/2008 20:11

Hi, i visited la senza a month ago and they offered a fab service. I was shocked to discover that i was a 32dd and id gone in wearing a 36a bra! I left with a completely different shape and my posture has also changed. The lady who fit me was lovely and made endless trips back and fourth to bring me different styles of bras and she also entertained my 5month old daughter x

msappropriate · 24/02/2008 20:16

I think when bras are fitted wrongly women are given a bigger size with smaller cups when they should have a smaller size with bigger cups. I thinks its cos of that stupid formual I have seen in catalogues where you have to add x amount of inches to your chest size then take your under breast measurement and the difference is the cup size. It always give me the wrong size cup.

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 24/02/2008 20:23

Delighted for you & your norks Psycho!

I liked Rigby & Peller, haven't been for years due to constant pregnancy & b/f.

La Perla were dreadful.

minxiemoo · 24/02/2008 20:24

I was also told that you should never be aware of your bra if its fit properly, which is true. I was always adjusting myself in my smaller size as the bra used to ride up at the back or id come out of it at the front. Gock has the right idea-its all in the underwear, hence my bridget pants

SlugsNSnails · 24/02/2008 20:36

Bras are great

I can't wait for R&P Sorry for the family outing!

Little dude is currently out cold, arm flung out the car door. He snuggled in sooo nicely.

Flamechick sobbed her heart out that she wants her old bed back though I thought she took that change very well. I remember when she suddenly remembered a while back that she didn't have bottles anymore, and sobbed like that too

I'm not sure they are that magical, but they would be able to put you in a bra that would make you feel fabulous anyway

norkmaiden · 24/02/2008 20:51

Hooray for new bra Psycho!

I've never been measured properly but there's a posh bra place near me - what could the maximum damage be in ££ if I try there and treat myself to a 'proper' bra (as opposed to a self-fitted/guessed M&S) ???

about £28, norks.

norkmaiden · 24/02/2008 20:54

Cheers Aitch - might treat the old norks in that case! (was scared it might be more!!)

I think I'm a 34c, but I bet I'm not really. Curious now!

AngeG · 24/02/2008 21:01

I have to agree with others here about Bravissimo. I went in to be measured wearing a 34DD came out wearing a 30FF and feeling fabulous. The Freya bras are lovely!!

M&S always measured me a 'C' cup which never fitted.

neolara · 24/02/2008 21:02

NotDoingTheHomework - it may be worth going to John Lewis for a fit. Bra buying day always used to make me cry. Honestly. Very depressing to be measured a 36 AA at M & S and then find that all of the bras were too big. Finally took myself along to John Lewis - and hey presto - 32 C and the best fitting bra I have ever had in my life. Shame it took me to 37 to realise I actually had boobs. That could be you too .........

Psychomum5 · 24/02/2008 21:30

for the little dude flame......

for flamechick tho!

was he thrilled with the snug-feeling bed???

another thing I just discovered, re the bra's, or more correctly, wearing the correct bra.....

have just got into my pj's, and usually when getting ready for bed, and taking off my bra, I find that my norks 'drop' and feel as tho they could hit the floor. it has got to the stage that I have been wearing a bra to bed, or wearing very supportive vests, as they have hurt that much.

last night I thought it just coincidence, but tonight I have really noticed.........NORKS DON'T HURT, or feel as tho they are gonna drop off!!!!!

norks that feel normal again, and cos they have spent the day 'caressed', I feel better and less achy too.

WOOOHOOOO.

now the question......how have I gone this many years not knowing this. clearly I have been in the wrong size for years and years, going on the difference I feel taking off my bra's then, to now!

i went to bravissimo, and they said instead of a 36dd i should be 32gg (no way i would get an m&s 32 to do up though!). They found me a couple, but they were so uncomfortable i took them back, looked great, but they were so high at the front sides (if you know where i mean) that they really dug in under my arm at the front and sides. I then tried dozens on but none would fit without feeling sore, so i am still in my m&s.....

satine · 24/02/2008 22:02

I'm so evangelistic about R & P: they are WONDERFUL fitters and their bras last for years. They stock so many bras from Europe and USA that they have the perfect bra for everyone, whether you want every day or (ahem) Gala Occasion bras!

Heathcliffscathy · 24/02/2008 22:07

hey constance reader i'm 32 FF too, and only wear freya bras now. they are fantastic.

now that i know what size i am in a certain make, dh can finally buy me underwear too!

SlugsNSnails · 24/02/2008 22:08

And you thought I was nuts with my fortune spending on bras

He snuggled in all sweet and was lovely - he had been bouncing in it after his bath, so I thought it might go horribly wrong, but it was soooooo nice.

Psychomum5 · 24/02/2008 22:33

well....not nuts so much, as completely insane!!!!

learnt MY lesson tho, and a pricy one it will be!!!
