rucksack/backpack that works as a handbag

I currently have DrMartens Mini Backpack I love the size and I love the look of it. I do not like the lock and how it's getting old I am also finding stuff falls out the side.

I do not want a " normal" sized rucksack/backpack I really want something smaller and I love that I can put it on my back. I would prefer it not to be fabric, but if the right one comes along, I am up for it. Something like a KÅNKEN /Fjaelraven bag will not be something I will want. (I grew up in Scandinavia they remind me of stuff my dad would use 😄)

It's important for me that it looks nice I think a lot of the backpacks out there look like dumpy sacks Id also like something that doesn't wear really quickly.

I'd prefer to not go above the DrMartens in price so no more than £120 ish.. Id welcome lower I will admit but I am willing to go up if needed.

Any ideas?

I love Slang bags, never tried their backpacks but have used this website many times.

I think someone mentioned Osprey unchain. I got this from the outlet store online, a couple of years ago and still love it.

I have a Kate Spade one and I love it! Perfect size & comfy to wear. I got it from an outlet shop so worked out just under £100

@RaininSummer

Put your Kipling bag through the wash ( no conditioner ) mine have always come up fine. Put in a pillowcase for extra protection of needed.

@Enko I love the Dr Martens backpack! Does it fit much in? I'm tempted to get one.

As soon as I saw the thread title I thought 'she needs a Doc Marten'. I have the big version and love it. Why not just get another one? There's even a sale on ATM.....

(Masses fit in the big one. I have to restrain myself from using it all the time as I know it will get loads of shopping put in it, and get ruined...)

I love Kipling, they do a good range of backpack sizes and quite often there extra straps/loops so you can switch from shoulder to backpack as needed.

Thanks @Enko I've just bought myself a Dr Martens mini backpack. Looks perfect for what I need!

Fossil Parker Small Backpack (can't do links). It is above your price point, but Fossil do make great quality bags.

I like that but if I'm spending £200 I may as well go for the Kate Spade one 😀

Longchamp is fab and more spacious than it looks.

Fab thread, I cycle quite a bit and also need a decent backpack that morphs into a handbag

Me too plus I feel a lot safer in London with a backpack on rather than any other sort of bag.

I’ve got a leather backpack from Conkca. Had it about 6 years and it’s still going strong. Very reasonably prices and nice traditional styles.

Snailsaresweet · 05/07/2023 17:05

My current leather backpack is from the Men's section at John Lewis - I think its this one https://www.johnlewis.com/john-lewis-oslo-leather-backpack/navy/p3999391 I've also seen nice ones in the Men's section at M&S. My taste does tend towards the minimalist and practical, though. It's very comfortable to wear, fits a laptop and has several useful interior pockets, and has taken me through holidays (fits perfectly under airplane seats) and commuting without showing signs of wear.
