rucksack/backpack that works as a handbag

I currently have DrMartens Mini Backpack I love the size and I love the look of it. I do not like the lock and how it's getting old I am also finding stuff falls out the side.

I do not want a " normal" sized rucksack/backpack I really want something smaller and I love that I can put it on my back. I would prefer it not to be fabric, but if the right one comes along, I am up for it. Something like a KÅNKEN /Fjaelraven bag will not be something I will want. (I grew up in Scandinavia they remind me of stuff my dad would use 😄)

It's important for me that it looks nice I think a lot of the backpacks out there look like dumpy sacks Id also like something that doesn't wear really quickly.

I'd prefer to not go above the DrMartens in price so no more than £120 ish.. Id welcome lower I will admit but I am willing to go up if needed.

Any ideas?

Oh dear, loving that Pia bag....... v expensive

And perhaps a little phone bag to put small items in, perhaps that is the solution

Although I dont want to feel like Im carrying bags all over me

I disagree about the mia Tui fake leather. I use a big rucksack if their daily for work and have had it over 2 years with no obvious wear and tear. Ditto my smaller bags. My canvas or nylon bags , looking at you Kipling , get filthy and stained very quickly.

@Enko I love the Dr Martens backpack! Does it fit much in? I'm tempted to get one.

Possiblynotever · 03/07/2023 13:33

I have a Tumi, it costs a small fortune but I have used it every day for the past 8 years and it is my joy.
Three large pockets, one very small pocket near the handle for my credit cards, two side pockets - one for the water bottle and another for money, keys...whatever. I love it...it also has sits perfectly on luggage ( I travel all the time for work). I would buy it again ( in black this time), but sadly they have discontinued the model...I would still buy the new one if needed

Its one big room inside so yes it fits a lot.. My reluctance for many of the suggested bags is te DcM is just perfect in style and size just getting old but i do love it

TK Maxx have a range of leather backpacks for around £40. This one is an example but there are other styles.

Allsaints Kita or Mazzy convertible backpacks are great. Leather or vegan options and lots of colours. Over budget slightly but some BNWT on ebay or vinted.

You might like this at John Lewis:

You can fit a huge amount in here (water bottle, book, nappies, wipes, change of baby clothes, snack, purse, phone, keys) and it has a zip. I wouldn't be without it.

Wont open for me, says bad connection?

I have a Fiorelli bag which fits your description. It has a zip and then a magnetic enclosure for flap over the top (attached pic)

They have discontinued it but you could get 2nd hand, ebay has lots, or the current Anna style seems similar.

I just bought this from primark today to serve as a handbag/changing bag. Not expecting it to stand the test of time like a mulberry obviously, but fed up of carrying both my (expensive!) handbag, and dd’s changing bag too. Cheap enough that I’m not bothered about throwing water bottles etc into it. I hate the “rucksack” look…. Found this a decent compromise. Even my husband said it was nice!

I have a longchamp Le pliage which is great. Has a zip and also a popper fastening. Super lightweight and can get loads in it as one main pocket.

crackfoxy · 03/07/2023 22:32

This is what I use and it's lovely. Had it over a year now and it look like new. I use it daily. It's not too big and not too small
