Full length half under-skirt

My DD is wearing this dress to her prom, (looks very Boob-ish in the pics, but in real life it doesn’t look like that on her), but it’s quite sheer and needs some sort of slip underneath it. She’d ideally like a half slip as the top is laced at the back so she doesn’t want it to interfere and straps would show in the shoulders.

Problem is it seems hard to get on the high street these days! Has anyone seen anything either in the shops or somewhere I can get quick delivery? Many thanks!

M&S

CindersAgain · 30/06/2023 09:32

I would say it’s designed that way and she just needs flesh coloured pants.

If she does get a slip, would a knee length one in nude colour work, because you might not be able to see where it ends? Might be worth trying as it’ll be much easier to find.

SheepBeepBeep · 30/06/2023 09:32

I’ve looked in our large M&S and they had no full length, only knee length.

Check online. They do longer ones as well, in all colours.

CindersAgain · 30/06/2023 09:33

Actually, having watched the video, I don’t think either of my suggestions work. Sorry!

SheepBeepBeep · 30/06/2023 09:34

She tried some nude coloured right shorts-type pants, it I was worried that it was still showing a bit too much for a school event. I know what you mean about it being designed that way, and as an adult I’d definitely wear it like that, but wasn’t sure if it was appropriate for a 15/16 year old. Am happy to be told otherwise though!

I’m not seeing them online?

Thanks, I will have a look. She was so insistent she wanted this dress and it’s beautiful, but she’s also quite shy and doesn’t want people to be able to see the outline of her legs.

There are full length ones on Amazon. They are quite awful though, maybe there are some better ones.

Thank you, I’ve ordered the longer length to try. Fingers crossed it works!

Ah yeah, I thought the OP wanted full length.

Thank you for the link, I did look on there before but I was worried about them arriving and not working, so was hoping to high street for ease of return. Hopefully the M&S ones will do the job!

29" is very long. I think! Grin

Hardbackwriter · 30/06/2023 09:42

There are also full length ones on Amazon but you'd be taking a bit of a gamble in terms of quality but also potentially delivery times I think

SageHearts · 30/06/2023 09:42

Amazon has loads of maxi underskirts, all colours, shapes and sizes and they normally do next day delivery.

Whataretheodds · 30/06/2023 09:42

Just googled - various on amazon and JD Williams. Also Simple Be but I'm not sure if they do smaller sizes.

Hardbackwriter · 30/06/2023 09:42

Sorry, didn't see earlier post about Amazon before posting!

Next have ones that aren't full length but have a lace trim that could look like some sort of deliberate feature as an underlayer? https://www.next.co.uk/style/st673965/379594?dp=a&dndl=1&gclid=CjwKCAjw-vmkBhBMEiwAlrMeF0uy5ofJkTIbOVUFRuChBgQG1HYwT6QMhhPiPmoSxC11tccvGCXXxhoCHN8QAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds#379594

Thank you, that can be my next port of call if the M&S slips don’t work. I think that as long as there isn’t a definite cut off showing on the hem of the slip, then anywhere mid calf or longer could possibly work. Last resort is me chopping up some sort of full slip and sewing it in as an extra lining, but hoping it doesn’t come to that!

Amazon was definitely my go-to in the past but I haven’t got Amazon prime at the minute, so was hoping for a more local solution so that if they aren’t suitable then I can easily return and replace.

Thank you, she’s a size 10/12 so I’ll check them out.

If you're capable of that (I would not be) then I think that would actually be the best option by far - I think otherwise with that dress there's a good chance that the waistband of the half slip would be very visible so if you can sew it in it could look much better

SheepBeepBeep · 30/06/2023 09:51

You might be right. I’ll see how the M&S ones look as I have a click and collect for tomorrow, but otherwise sewing a lining might be the best option. It might not look pretty from the inside but think I could make it look ok when it’s worn.
