Birkenstocks - do they get easier to wear?

Bought some for a heel issue as read it can help.

Do they take a while to get used to?

I know they will end up being mega comfy.....eventually

The clogs caused nerve damage because my toes are in the wrong place for their shaped footbed. The sandal type also blistered the sides of my feet terribly but I hadn’t had the footbed problem with them. I gave up and got oofos

Mariposa123 · 29/06/2023 20:13

They’re the only shoe I’ve worn for most of the summer so far. I find them super comfy. I’ve got Madrids.

shatteredL · 29/06/2023 20:17

100% when I first got mine I thought wtf and didn't wear them for months now I wear rain or shine as they're so comfy

pumpkinpink · 29/06/2023 20:24

I got mine very wet then wore them, it sort of moulded them to my feet. They are the most comfortable shoe ever now, I could walk miles and miles in them.

ArtixLynx · 29/06/2023 20:25

live in mine

they do take some walking in, but once they give, they're the comfiest thing ever.

JeminaSunshine · 29/06/2023 21:10

I loved mine, had them ages and so comfy and then a few weeks ago they gave me a huge deep blister. I was gutted.

ginoclocksomewhere · 29/06/2023 21:12

Mine were horrendous until they moulded- now I love them!

CherryLipgloss · 29/06/2023 21:13

Yes, they are stiff at first but so comfortable once they have softened a bit.

Iamnotworthy · 29/06/2023 21:14

Mine have always given me blisters on the soles of my feet. Fit flops all the way.

Firstnamesurname31 · 29/06/2023 21:15

As above, may rub your feet a little at first but then literally become the only shoes you consider wearing for months.
If you can stand it wear them in wearing socks round the house/ in the garden?

MagicClawHasNoChildren · 29/06/2023 21:44

Which style of Birkenstocks have you got, OP? Might help people to give advice.

I've had my Mayaris for three years, now. They did give me blisters in the arch of my foot at first but I can now walk miles in them without thinking about it. I love them. I live in them in the summer.

dudsville · 29/06/2023 22:05

These either suit your feet or they don't. I love them, original or soft foot bed, doesn't matter, they're really comfy for me. I've taken brand new ones in holiday as my only footwear and been thoroughly happy. Some folks also need to break them in, you may be one of these, but basically you'll find out soon if you have feet for birkenstocks.

LolaSmiles · 29/06/2023 22:07

I haven't been able to get away with them but some of my friends swear by them and wear them daily all summer.

It must be very dependent on foot shape.

ThatSunCreamSmell · 29/06/2023 22:10

Make sure you watch the video to make sure you fit them right in the first place! But as others have said I don't think they are made for all feet unfortunately..

Video???
I’ve been wearing Birkenstocks for years (Arizonas and Mayaris). I never knew there was an instruction video!

ThatSunCreamSmell · 30/06/2023 03:22

@Chickenkorma64 I'm sure I got a leaflet in the box directing me.. it was years ago though!

Mercurial123 · 30/06/2023 05:45

I've worn them for years and can walk for miles in them straight out the box.

Merrilydancing · 30/06/2023 07:00

My first pair arrived yesterday and so comfy, wondering why I haven’t had these before!

BG2015 · 30/06/2023 07:17

I have a pair of Gizeh sandals which are post toe sandals.

That video was interesting so thanks for posting it.

I'm wearing the, around the house and they are easing a bit now.

I wear them straight out of the box. I've never had to wear them in. I guess it depends how different from the original footbed shape your foot is.

fancreek · 30/06/2023 08:10

Word of warning, when I got my Milanos I wore them for whole days straight away no issue. Then after about 3 wears I had 2 months of skin peeling, blisters, rubbing etc, before they were fine to wear again!

The weird thing is even at their worst I never noticed it till I took them off IYSWIM? At the end of the day I'd find blisters up the arch of my foot that I hadn't noticed developing etc. weird

NatashaDancing · 30/06/2023 08:25

Good grief. You're not selling them ! I'd always assumed the comfort must compensate for the ugliness.

BG2015 · 22/08/2023 14:03

I can confirm by Birks are AMAZING!

I've worn them all summer. Only sandals I wore on holiday.

Love them and definitely buying more! I'm a convert!

Hmm, I think I needed this thread - I bought a pair of Arizonas about a month ago and just couldn't get used to them, they're so heavy and clunky.
I'm used to wearing flip flops around the house so thought these would be great for wearing out but they are too stiff, maybe I just need to bite the bullet and wear them constantly for a week or two.

CinnamonJellyBeans · 22/08/2023 15:45

Not a fan of mine. Sticking to fit flops
