Outfit for a festival for a middle aged chubby lady

Hi. I have a big day out soon to a music festival (not camping thank the lord). I have 3 kind of clothes (office wear, night out clothes, chubby mum wear). I have nothing I can wear to a daytime festival as the chubby mum wear won’t work. No long dresses or jumpsuits due to toilets (yuck). What does one wear if you don’t want to look total shite?

(I am aware that the majority of festival goers will be wearing their pants and bras judging by previous years but having somehow failed to lose 3 stones and not yet mastered time travel it’s not really an option).

What about a denim midi skirt or bias cut skirt with a band t-shirt and cool sunglasses?

gogomoto · 25/06/2023 18:48

I wear dresses just above the knee and cycling shorts normally

LaviniasBigBloomers · 25/06/2023 18:59

I'm going for denim shorts, trainers, a vest top or t and a blue and white striped man's shirt over the top of it all. Though that's assuming it's dry, if it's wet then fuck knows.

highlandcoos · 25/06/2023 19:09

I'm thinking of cargo trousers, vest top, oversized linen shirt and Clarks sandals (suitable for both wet and dry conditions). If it rains, I have a large hooded waterproof poncho.

Nomorecoconutboosts · 25/06/2023 19:11

I’d wear cropped jeans (suitable for wet or dry weather)
Converse or flip flops
long floaty t-shirt/short tunic
or vest top with short sleeved linen shirt (loose one)

CiaoBellisima · 25/06/2023 19:12

I wore knee length denim shorts, an old band tshirt. Long socks rolled down ober ankle high wellies. That summers tan lines were interesting but it meant I didn’t worry about ruining clothes. Had an old cagoule tied round my wait and a small cross-body bag for my essentials.

Tbh, anything goes and no one will judge. Wear whatever you want and have a great time.

Pieceofpurplesky · 25/06/2023 19:15

I usually go for a dress like this and then take leggings and a cardi for later! With boots and a pair of flip flops in on my rucksack

I wear anything (usually shorts if it’s hot) . Nobody cares at a festival!

Thatbloomindog · 25/06/2023 19:22

I’m a short, stocky middle aged women. I wear a band t shirt (I have loads and in different colours) and denim shorts. And funky trainers. And I have a few sequin jackets for later on in the evening. Well cut and fitted well. Not from Shein or ebay random £10

My other go to when colder, is simple jeans and vest top, and then put a funky poncho over the top, and a hat. Maybe a fedora for a classier look. Depends how ‘out there’ you want to look. When I say poncho I mean from monsoon or something. A nice one. They are pricey but Vinted had some nice ones

these outfits are quite easy because you change the style and shape of the denim to suit your body shape and pretence. And same with t shirt cut. And also trainers. And the outfit mixes and matches, making packing easier

Have fun

Thatbloomindog · 25/06/2023 19:24

** Preference
(not pretence)
sorry auto correct

Innocents4321 · 25/06/2023 19:25

Bright and floaty long top with denim shorts or leggings under. Ibligatory wellies

Lcb123 · 25/06/2023 19:26

What about some fun pattern trousers; vest and denim jacket? With a leather backpack?

NorthWestThree · 25/06/2023 19:28

New Look have some nice dresses at the moment, simple bold colours with tie up straps, I'm chubby and middle aged and I'm living in them at the moment: dress, chub rub shorts and Adidas trainers. And a floppy sun hat!

Gateappreciation · 25/06/2023 19:28

Enjoy your festival.

What I’ve learnt is that no one cares what you’ll be wearing, so don’t worry. I went to a small festival a couple of weeks back. Dressed up a little. Despite being in June, it was flippin freezing and by the time the main act was on, everyone was wrapped up in jumpers and coats!

Wear jeans and a top and you’ll be fine.

Heygal · 25/06/2023 19:28

How about a playsuit instead!

FormerlySpeckledyHen · 25/06/2023 19:30

Don’t wear flip flops or sandals unless you are planning to NOT use the loos.

NanFlanders · 25/06/2023 19:31

Popisy clothing jumpsuits or playsuits

OldBeller · 25/06/2023 19:34

I'd go for a bit of face glitter, a funky hair clip, sequin accessories (like a backpack or bum bag), a wrap around net skirt in a bright colour, maybe a glittery cardigan, and then just plain vest/band t-shirt and shorts/skirt.

Having done a lot of festivals, I can recommend bringing tights and long socks too. You can take the tights off and roll the socks all the way down if it's roasting or put the tights on and pull the socks up when it gets a bit chilly later.

Also, do wear hiking boots whatever you do. Wellies are a pain in the arse and can send you on your arse because they're not that easy to walk in.

busybusybusymum · 25/06/2023 19:34

Regular chubby mum festival goer here. I wear linen loose shorts dungarees and love a sequin top under. I'm not quite ready to let go of my sequins but equally cannot wear them the same way as I would have 10 years ago! My dungarees are from Tesco but very similar in style to Lucy & Yak and I get the sequins from vinted.

pimplebum · 25/06/2023 19:35

Any fucking thing you fancy and fuck anyone who judges you

mrsbyers · 25/06/2023 19:37

Just wear what you fancy and hat you’ll be comfortable in I think it’s hideous people dressing unusually for a festival with those dreadful flower headbands etc - trying way too hard

SocksAndTheCity · 25/06/2023 19:43

When is it? I'd be valuing sun protection over anything else if it's fairly soon - some kind of long sleeved cotton kaftan dress (I have a short one with a swirly print) and a hat.

Definitely sensible footwear, as PP have said. If you're not staying over that makes it easier - you can stick a big cardi or jumper in your rucksack for later on Smile

PollyAmour · 25/06/2023 20:33

Definitely something above the knee - you WILL need to use the portaloo at some point alas! I would wear a floaty dress, a straw sunhat, cycling shorts underneath the dress, and cowboy boots, with a small crossbody bag containing an emergency poncho, phone, and cash.

LivingDeadGirlUK · 25/06/2023 20:43

Combat trousers so I don't need to take a bag, band T, trainers, hoody for when it gets cold.

I must go to a different class of festival to you. No way I’d wear anything pricey somewhere people will be throwing warm cups of piss over the crowds because they can’t be bothered to use the portaloos.
