Outfit for a festival for a middle aged chubby lady

Hi. I have a big day out soon to a music festival (not camping thank the lord). I have 3 kind of clothes (office wear, night out clothes, chubby mum wear). I have nothing I can wear to a daytime festival as the chubby mum wear won’t work. No long dresses or jumpsuits due to toilets (yuck). What does one wear if you don’t want to look total shite?

(I am aware that the majority of festival goers will be wearing their pants and bras judging by previous years but having somehow failed to lose 3 stones and not yet mastered time travel it’s not really an option).

You don’t give a shot what you look like after the first 5 minutes. Comfy, layers for changeable weather, trainers and some flipflops in your bag.

I'm thinking of cargo trousers, vest top, oversized linen shirt and Clarks sandals (suitable for both wet and dry conditions). If it rains, I have a large hooded waterproof poncho.

I usually wear this.

ooh the glamour

@CiaoBellisima I’m thinking Glastonbury and smaller local festivals.
I don’t mean very pricey and as I say go to Vinted. Just didn’t mean a tacky ‘festival wear, search on ebay for fancy dress type stuff.

But the only place I’ve ever seen cups of piss flying about is at V or Leeds / Reading circa 1999 or Download, and I certainly wouldn’t go to those festivals now.

Worst case is probably that I will lose it, or drop in mud ☺️

Thanks for the ideas so far. If the weather was anything like the last few weeks will be hot.

its not that I want to look all avant-garde and festivally but it’s my biggest day out in ages and I’d like to feel comfortable and look good. I’d normally do that by dressing up and I feel I might feel a bit meh at this.

a short dress sounds a go-er. I normally buy a midi as that’s a maxi on me. I’ll wear trainers as a full day in wellies hurts my feet. Prob buy a cross body bag/bum bag to wear as not feeling my leather handbags will cut it, and need to buy a cardi too then.

I have denim shorts but my god I’m so un glam in them. Would need a nice top.

back in the last century size 8 me attended all festivals in shorts and t shirts. And I’ve don’t a few with kids and gone full chubby mum wear (same idea 3 sizes bigger) . This is a big day out with pals and feels like needs a bit more effort,

I went to reading in 2000. No one flung a cup of piss at me but they did set fire to the tents and tip the portaloos. Hoping for a different vibe on this occasion.

Tramlines?

Bloodyleaverspartybollocks · 25/06/2023 21:53

Depends what type of festival it is.
Rock?
Dance?
Pop?
Tribute babes ?

Middle aged and overweight here - I'm going to a festival next month and going to wear:

  • glittery trainers
  • long denim shorts (Matalan have some good stretchy ones) or funky patterned leggings
  • oversized band T-shirts
  • long pendant & some colourful bangles
  • kimono if it gets cooler
  • cool sunglasses
  • small cross body bag (to avoid my phone falling out of my pocket and into the horrible toilets

I went to IOW last weekend with brilliant weather and wore just above the knee denim shorts, it was awful being a sweaty chubby menopausal woman trying to pull down the shorts in a cramped portaloo. I would wear something loose and easy to go to the loo in.

scrivette · 25/06/2023 23:59

Don't wear a play suit - they will be awful in the loos.

A pretty dress that you feel good in with something warmer to go over the top in the evening. You could wear cycling shorts underneath if you were more comfortable having them on.

HappiDaze · 26/06/2023 00:49

I'll be wearing a dress with sleeves to just below my knees, old trainers and I'll put some leggings and a cardi in my bag in case it gets cold later.

HappiDaze · 26/06/2023 00:58

I'll be wearing similar to Lauren's outfit on the right but it'll be just under my knees and I'll be wearing trainers

I do cargo trousers or shorts for the multiple pockets, band t shirt and a shirt. Teva sandals because they survive rain. Hat, sunglasses and rain poncho, also works as a seat.

VaggieMight · 26/06/2023 01:11

way sandals or anything open foot at a festival. (Pissy/toilet sludge/puddles).

VaggieMight · 26/06/2023 01:12

No way.

Yeah, I agree. I wouldn't wear trainers either. They might look nice, but they definitely won't come back looking like that. And no matter how comfortable they are, after miles of walking they will very likely stop being that way.

To paraphrase Uncle Monty - good quality hiking boots!

rookiemere · 26/06/2023 07:21

Depends on the weather. Due to go to Lytham next weekend and wouldn't you know it's due to rain. My friend has some ponchos for us, so I'll likely wear hiking boots, water repellent trousers and a t shirt.
