As a person with very pale very sensitive skin, a major family history of skin cancer, and on-off use of tretinoin for adult acne (not as bad as the adolescent acne, for which I had years of antibiotics then Roaccutane) I have tried a lot of sunscreens. Oh, since pregnancy I also have melisma which will get massively worse with even a small amount of sun.

All of the French pharmacy brands mentioned on this list make me break out, especially if reapplying during the day. The Biore watery essence irritates my skin and is heavily perfumed. The Heliocare is OK but doesn't stop my melasma from getting worse.

The only sunscreens I have found that work are various formulations by Isdin (but not the powder in the tube, that is hopeless) and (my preferred choice, recommended by a Greek dermatologist) the Melascreen light by Ducray. If you have problems with skin pigmentation it really helps. Neither brand causes me to get blocked pores or spots, which is a wondrous thing.

Hats are also your friend.

Altruist face fluid spf50 with vit A.

No smell, absorbs quickly, leaves a satin sheen on the skin, doesn't pill, is fairly cheap, available on Amazon Prime. I use it instead of moisturiser.
It also donates a portion of its profits to an African Albino charity.

I also use Altruist sunscreen spf50 and spf 30. Theyre thicker than the fluid. The SPF 30 is particularly good on the face.

I've been using them for years and they work fantastically.

My fave is Prevage City Smart which I only buy on offer.

Next would be Eucerin as mentioned previously.

The worst for me are Nivea.. Too oily and pills, and Avene. Awful white cast and pills.

I didn't mind Clarins but it was overwhelmingly perfumed.

I use Eucerin. It's the best I've tried ; no residue/pilling.
