Comfy, loose tops that hide my belly for summer?

Bluebirds1987 · 13/06/2023 15:29

I never seem to be able to find just simple, loose or floaty tops for summer (or just anything that I don't have to suck my belly in for!)

I have always had a big tummy but still look fairly pregnant after my second child (I have a diastasis recti), I would love any suggestions of styles or places I could find decent quality summery tops that don't cling to me?

I buy linen tunic type tops from white stuff, fat face, wierd fish and monsoon. They tend to be loose and floaty and nice and cool if they are linen or a linen cotton mix

I like Next Bubble Hem tops.

GhostsAgain · 13/06/2023 15:57

ooo I find bubble hems always ride up on me😂

MuddlerInLaw · 13/06/2023 16:36

Alternatively - I’ve been wanting to buy one of these for ages. From Goodhood store. Details on first photo.

La Double J Not cheap, buy forever.

I'd look like a pinata in that!

I am very short so they work well for me.

I have that Roman top - I’m wearing it now actually. It’s really nice to wear, lovely and cool and hangs nicely without clinging

Same. They creep slowly....then pop. Just like a bubble ....up they ride

I have it too - the only thing I've ever seen and liked in Roman! I really wish they'd do it in black and/or white as well.

CatfoodOzymandias · 13/06/2023 19:30

I was going to say that is the only nice thing I have seen in Roman but I thought it might come off as snobbish.. but as you have said it yourself.😉

😂I have friends who buy loads in there and look perfectly nice, but most of it is very much not for me.

Look, in a frenzy of heat related misery, I bought a pair of linen crops today from Matalan. Who am I to talk? And I might also buy those bubble tops from Next. I just want to be cool right now.

Even the model looks pregnant in this! It’s not for anyone with a belly they are trying to minimise.

Mango Sophia cotton shirts, Seasalt larissa shirts, and Boden shirts I wear a lot of. I am not an adventurous dresser (can you tell) but I think it’s true to say shirts are generally more flattering than T shirts and jersey tops.

Bluebirds1987 · 13/06/2023 21:45

Ooh thanks for all the suggestions. I've never looked at Roman before, those tops do look nice!
I have a couple of those bubble hem tops but unfortunately at the moment they don't hang loosely, they just sort of... Encapsulate my tummy! 🤣
I will check out some of the others too, shirts I'm not sure - I like my comfy jersey sort of materials but I'm trying to open up my avenues a little and try be a bit more stylish! I did have a gorgeous comfy fitted shirt from next and that did hide my tummy, but I grew out of it 😞
@Catchasingmewithspiders I like all those brands and never ever think to shop there these days, so off to have a nosey now!

I'm short but the Body2body bubble tops are loose and don't ride up .

redspottedmug · 13/06/2023 22:33

Seasalt Larissa are quite fitted. Size up at least once and wear over a vest top buttoned only towards the bottom.

This is really weird as I was literally going to start a thread on this exact same thing!! I cant do bubble hems either. I have seen these in Uniqlo which look nice if a bit unexciting:Uniqlo

I tried about 5 on in marks which looked nice on the hanger and every single one was hideous on me! following with interest!

That Uniqlo airism material is not very nice outside the gym. Bit shiny. I tried on some in the shop.

Colinorpercy · 13/06/2023 22:58

Asda also used to do great strappy tops that were loose and hung well and didn’t need ironed. Last couple of years they’ve not had them or they’ve changed and not been as nice, not looked this year yet though so worth a look maybe. I have actually started wearing dresses more often as I really struggle to get tops I like.

Ah that’s a shame as I really liked the look of the shape, that scalloped bottom is always quite flattering I think more so than a straight edge. I might get a couple for gym/travelling purposes anyway.
