I'm a 30 yo woman who has gained 4 stone in a very short period of time (anti depressants). Psychiatrist warned me that the medication I was going was particularly bad for weight gain. The weight gain has made my depression infinitely worse.

I have just noticed this weird indent when it comes to face shape. Have always had an oval face with high cheekbones.

What is going on?? I recently started krill oil and collagen as I noticed fat on face isn't as taut as I would like.

This can't just be due to weight gain. I've literally just only noticed. Know idea how long I've had this.

What do you think???

It most likely is weight gain making your face fuller, but as it didn't happen overnight you've probably not noticed until now.

I stopped looking after myself, used to be fairly high maintenance. Perhaps that's why I haven't noticed as I just don't look in the mirror these days.

Some anti depressants along with antipsychotic medication can stimulate the appetite causing weight gain. They can also make you look quite bloated & puffy so probably a combination.
Shite eh. See if you can get prescribed something else.

The meds arent the same as meds like steroids, which bloat you up. They may stimulate your appetite, causing you to over eat. As others have suggested, try a different kind, or try to eat less?

The indent was there before, but the weight gain has emphasised it. Your face shape still looks lovely to me.

Yes, it's just your face shape. You have a lovely face.

I knew that it was mitazipine before you posted!

What dose are you on? It seems that the lower doses stimulate your appetite more but it not so much on higher doses.

It certainly helped me to gain weight but for me that was a positive. It increased my appetite and I had to be more careful about eating healthily and exercising.

I’m on 45mg and it’s been life changing for me.

Ohgooodgodwhathashappened · 08/06/2023 17:09

Oh okay maybe the indent has just become more emphasised then. Gosh it was really shocking to see!

Does this pic still show the indent, just curious as I really don't see it tbh

I used to be able to intermittent fast to maintain a healthy weight (relatively easily) but mirtazapine makes me feel hungry ALL THE TIME.

I have seconds/thirds which I could just never do. I'm afraid to come off as we tried a lot of meds and it's nice not feeling sick to my stomach every second if the day (lovely anxiety).

You have lost a bit of fat around the temple area. May just be aging. You still look great.

Ohgooodgodwhathashappened · 08/06/2023 17:16

Oh no, was worried it was volume loss due to age. Not a single wrinkle or fine line but volume loss like crazy.

OP posts:
Onekidnoclue · 08/06/2023 17:20

Could you try a lower dose of a different AD to eliminate the nausea and add in some beta blockers for the anxiety?

Ohgooodgodwhathashappened · 08/06/2023 17:21

@Arewehumanorarewecupboards I'm on 19mg right now, but my psychiatrist is forever changing the dosage.

It has helped re anxiety but has also made me borderline agoraphobic.

OP posts:
Ohgooodgodwhathashappened · 08/06/2023 17:22

Is it normal to experience this much volume loss in 6 months??

OP posts:
Welliehead · 08/06/2023 17:23

I think this might be the anxiety talking OP. You have a lovely face

Oxborn · 08/06/2023 17:24

i was also on this the appetite it gives you is just awful i came of it in the end because it made me feel so disgusting

Ohgooodgodwhathashappened · 08/06/2023 17:28

Thank you to those who have said my face shape is nice, very kind. But I feel like a monster tbh. 4 stone heavier than where I usually feel comfortable.

Your cheeks have just got chubbier and we don’t tend to have much fat near our temples/eye sockets.

Our skull is actually shaped like that a bit but it’s more obvious when we put weight on because our cheeks get chubbier and balloon out more.

Its nothing to worry about.

I know you’ve scribbled out half your face but you look absolutely stunning and I’d kill for your lips.
