I'm late 30s and can't decide whether I like it enough or whether it's ever so slightly frumpy??

I'm not sure about it. If you're buying something new I would look again

dudsville · 29/05/2023 14:42

It's got good shaping for someone a bit curvier than the model, but it's not really special, if that's what you're weighing up about it?

RedPandaFluff · 29/05/2023 14:43

It's pretty but I'm inclined to think it's a tiny bit frumpy - maybe it's the length, the way it comes down to the knee? Is there a midi-length version?

Having said that . . . I know nothing about fashion Grin

LittleFreakJezebel · 29/05/2023 14:44

It's ok but yes is a bit frumpy, I'd keep looking!

toucaninjapan · 29/05/2023 14:45

Oh, I like it! I think it's a lovely dress (and I'm 32 if that matters!)

validnumber · 29/05/2023 14:45

I think it's really nice!
Def one to try on.
Where is it from?
I still cannot find a nice dress for a summer wedding I am going to in two weeks!

SophiaElizabethGrace · 29/05/2023 14:45

Is it from phase eight? If so, they have many other more attractive dresses and jumpsuits. I also think it's a bit frumpy. Sorry

morelippy · 29/05/2023 14:53

With the right accessories to make it more special and weddingy it would be lovely, and you could wear it again

lostinmaze · 29/05/2023 14:54

It's frumpy and you need to be rather slim imo to carry it off, not sure on your size? I'd look again, so many mice dresses out atm that would do the job better.

SallyWD · 29/05/2023 14:54

I think it's lovely and not frumpy

NatashaDancing · 29/05/2023 14:55

I don't know what "frumpy" is supposed to mean.

The best thing about it is it's lined but beyond that it's nondescript. It's inoffensive and bland.

Maireas · 29/05/2023 14:55

I hate the word "frumpy".
However, I think it looks dated and not very stylish. I wouldn't wear it and I'm 63, if that gives any perspective.

Divebar2021 · 29/05/2023 14:55

It’s a no from me! It’s a flattering shape but not very contemporary style. The print is also very meh!

DaisyStream · 29/05/2023 14:58

Thanks everyone! I think I'll keep looking - I don't absolutely love it and I think I'd need to in order to splash out on it. It's Phase 8, yes.

I'm 33 and i wouldn't be seen dead in that until I was at least 20 years old than now 🤣

validnumber · 29/05/2023 15:15

Can the people saying it's not good give examples of what is - or do I need to start me own thread?!

Whatthediddlyfeck · 29/05/2023 15:19

I am you in 20 years and I’d not wear it!😂

My above comment was in response to yours!

Why do you think being 20 years older would make a bland, nondescript dress more attractive?

nextweekfriday · 29/05/2023 15:28

I'd reccommend Whistles for a dress the styles are quite contemporary as well as the shapes fabrics and design

I know! As I said upthread I'm 30 years older and wouldn't wear it. You don't suddenly lose taste and style over a certain age....

SirChenjins · 29/05/2023 15:33

It’s nice enough but nothing special and not particularly stylish. Is there something in particular that you’re looking for and perhaps we could help you find something OP?

The frumpy comments are nothing more than casual ageism and I wish people would stop it.

LoobyDop · 29/05/2023 16:09

It’s a bit staid- like something a politician might wear to a summit. You could find something a lot more interesting for a wedding. It’s the stiff, fitted cut- it doesn’t really say “I’m here to celebrate”. I’d look for something more fluid and less prim and proper.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 29/05/2023 16:17

I don’t like the dress, sorry, but I dislike the word frumpy even more.

CurlyhairedAssassin · 29/05/2023 16:28

I'm 50 and reluctantly wore a dress in that style (different print) last night cos I didn't really have anything else vaguely suitable. I hadn't worn it for 4 years or so because it was frumpy when I wore it then, and it waas still frumpy last night. I wasn't going for the fashion, though, so I just put it on and enjoyed my night.

Would people prefer the word "matronly" to "frumpy" or something? Although "matronly" implies a big bosom, I think, which I definitely don't have!
