What do you wear on a typical day?

I used to dress up and wear nice outfits pre kids but now I wake up put on gym wear take kids to school go to the gym then just end up staying in my gym wear all day as the fanciest place I go is Tesco. I want to get new outfits but then I think is there any point? Do you dress nicely day to day? Don't get me wrong if I'm going out I'll wear something a little more dressy but it's so rare when I come to it I feel so out of place wearing anything other than gym wear or pj's.

It varies a lot. I walk loads and do yoga and pilates so it often makes sense to stay in activewear all day. But I do like nice dresses and jumpsuits and things too, and if I saved them for best I wouldn't get enough wear out of them. So I think nothing of wearing them for the school run/Tesco etc, on a slightly less active day. Whatever I'm wearing I'm fairly well groomed - nails done and hair blow dried - but I rarely wear make up.

FuckingHateRats · 27/05/2023 21:14

I'm a teacher. I tend to dress in a polished way Mon-Fri: high waisted tailored trousers, printed maxi skirts, oversized satin shirt, lovely knitwear.

Saturday + Sunday I'm in jeans, lovely trainers and whatever top is most appropriate.

My nails are always done. My hair is curly and sometimes a bit unkempt, but looks 'done'. One bit of jewellery.

90% of the time I wear a black smock dress. My DS has disabilities and tends to pull at and stretch my clothes, wipe his face on me etc so it’s easier to have a “uniform”. I also always wear either cycle shorts or very opaque tights underneath as he has been known to lift my skirt up at inopportune times! In the summer I team it with bright sliders or supergas, and in the winter with tights and bright or metallic trainers, or chelsea boots. For work I change up jewellery and wear a lot of headbands to jazz things up.

Sarahtm35 · 27/05/2023 23:33

Usually anything that’s clean.
although today I’ve been doing housework so I put on an unwashed pair of jeans and a crochet style white top that I grabbed from the top of the wash basket.
I try to make effort now and again but the older I get the let I give 2 sh*ts. I also wear a lot of gym gear but I don’t go to the gym, I wear it to walk my dogs.

CC4712 · 27/05/2023 23:43

I WFH 100% of the time so might wear comfy tracksuit trousers and T-shirt or jumper if cold. Nicer blouse if camera is on and I'm going to online meetings. If I go shopping, its jeans, casual blouse and maybe cardigan if cooler.

OP- Do you really wear your sweaty gym outfit all day, including shopping all around Tescos in it???

Daffodilwoman · 27/05/2023 23:49

For work I wear smart clothes.
Winter: Trousers with a blouse under a jumper and boots or black shoes.
Summer: A midi dress with flat shoes or sandals.
Weekend: Casual clothes. Comfortable and practical.

Rina66 · 28/05/2023 07:51

I have good days and bad days! I do try to make the effort though, I feel better if I do. I'm better in more relaxed clothing, but I try to make it look like loungewear rather than active wear!

Yesterday I wore a white cheesecloth shorts Co-ord from Matalan all day, which is like posh pyjamas - then in the evening I changed in to white magics and a neon pink sweatshirt from Next. All with white Birkenstock look a likeys.

Friday I wore a blue shirred dress from H & M with the white sandals.

I dress smartish for work (teacher). At home I generally wear jeans and a t-shirt at this time of year. I only wear active wear for dog walking, running, yoga etc.

SunshineLollipopsAndRainbows · 28/05/2023 07:57

I have put on a lot of weight so tend to live in leggings & t shirts. I do have some cotton jersey dresses too. Really want to start making more of an effort.

BitOutOfPractice · 28/05/2023 07:58

Ok I’ll be the one to ask, don’t you shower after the gym?

massivesalads · 28/05/2023 07:59

Wide leg trousers with t shirt/vest
Linen shorts/ shirt co ord
Midi dresses
Adanola active wear sets
Midi skirts with cropped t shirts

MissyB1 · 28/05/2023 08:01

If I’m not at work then I have to walk the dog. So it’s old jeans and sweatshirt, I will change into nicer jeans if I have to go anywhere else. I don’t tend to wear make up on my days off. I try to make my hair look nice but I have mad frizzy hair so most of the time it looks well … mad and frizzy..
I am jealous of those smart polished women.

BitOutOfPractice · 28/05/2023 08:11

In answer to your question op: it depends.

sometimes a dress and sandals / trainers / boots. Sometimes trousers (wide leg jersey) and a jumper / shirt. Sometimes joggers and a sweatshirt. Sometimes gym gear (before gym not after!). Depends what I’m doing / how I feel.

hopeishere · 28/05/2023 08:28

I wfh so usually jeans and a top. I've just fro some cropped ones from M&S. I wear new balance trainers. Or addidas Stan smiths or birks or an espadrille in summer. Minimal make up.

If I've to go into work I have a range of tiered dresses. Full make up.

Going out? I have a few tops I generally wear.

I plan to dig out my summer stuff today!

Jessicarosex94x · 28/05/2023 09:28

Kind of haha I go to the gym then straight from there to the supermarket on the way home if needed then I'll keep it on while I do the housework then after I'll have a shower and get changed but if I'm only doing the school run then carpooling to after school club will most likely just put on comfies however being half term going out today and have put a nice little summery outfit on (very rare)

Yeah I do I realise how bad I made myself sound lol so I go to the gym call at the supermarket on way home I'm typically a supermarket sweep kind of shopper so I class it as part of my workout haha do the sweaty housework then have a shower and get changed before school run but point being I'll normally stick another Gymshark set or comfies on at that point

Not really sure of the point of the thread … You wear what works for your day, other people wear what works for them. You have dressier clothes for other occasions. What’s the issue?

Are you saying you want a different life - for which you’d need different clothes?

Oh god this ??🤞

lljkk · 28/05/2023 09:47

Comfy inexpensive ideally 2nd hand clothes.
PJs until I leave the house.
If warm, sandals & shorts & tank tops.

Whatever I wear has to suit cycling or walking 15 minutes to/from town, so layers, hoody, fleece, jeans, trousers rolled up to knee length, or skirts with leggings/lycra shorts.

Purplecatshopaholic · 28/05/2023 09:55

Smart work wear for the office - no particular need, but I’m quite senior and just prefer it. So heels, dresses, etc. Working from home, I’m smart from the neck up, lol. Rest of the time it’s generally more casual dresses.

Hoolihan · 28/05/2023 10:00

Work: jeans & old t-shirt
Weekend: jeans & less old t-shirt
Out: jeans & posh t-shirt

Twilightstarbright · 28/05/2023 10:24

I exercise at home at 6am so I wear gym gear for that. After showering the majority of the time I wear a dress with trainers/boots/Birkenstocks with a cardigan or a sweatshirt.

I sometimes wear jeans to watch DS play football.

I’m an apple shape and find dresses more flattering and easier to get a good fit.

User8907 · 28/05/2023 10:55

I would never stay in gym gear for hours after doing an exercise. That's gross, not only smell but also the bacteria. But each to their own.

I wfh so I normally wear comfy bottoms and t-shirt/jumper/hoodie depending on weather/ if I have calls that I need to look more presentable. If I need to run errands, I'd change into jeans and maybe a blazer.

BitOutOfPractice · 28/05/2023 12:18

I have to say op that I’m glad I’m not in the supermarket queue next to you.

I’m no clean freak but sorry that’s gross. Either that or you’re not working hard enough at the gym.

are there no showers at your gym?

StarlightLady · 28/05/2023 12:28

I tend to wear dresses mostly. I love my dresses, no need to consider which top goes with which bottoms and easy to wash.
