Two week manicure lifted off after 4hrs!

Help! Had a two week manicure (OPI) today and the polish just lifted off my thumb! I go on holiday Monday and everything is shut tomorrow.

Is there any way to stick it back down?

The nail hasn't been prepped properly. I would cut your losses and get a normal polish the same colour if you can. Take it with you on holiday as the others are likely to peel off too.

Take photos and get your money back!

Teddypops · 27/05/2023 20:48

You could try super glue!

Glitteratitar · 27/05/2023 20:49

Clear polish over the top?

Moredarkchocolateplease · 27/05/2023 21:03

@Teddypops thanks I've just emailed them. The girl who did them was so lovely, it's only peeled off one corner but still, an hour and lots of ££ and I'm gutted they looked so good!

Super glue worth a try though 🤔😁

@Glitteratitar im not sure that will help, itheres nowhere to put the polish I have my nails down really short so theres no more nail, just the quick.

Have you tried to nail glue it down? But be prepared if any liquid or moisture gets under the nail between the polish and nail bed (if it's gel) it could go green underneath. Hope you have a lovely holiday

bellsbuss · 27/05/2023 21:13

Go to a walk in salon tomorrow and get it Rr done there, hopefully they can colour match it and should only be a few pounds

JustAnotherDayWorkingAtHome · 27/05/2023 21:16

Do not use super glue!!! Use nail kit glue.

openstop · 27/05/2023 21:19

The others will peel off too. So you're probably best either taking them all off or leaving them alone

Moredarkchocolateplease · 27/05/2023 21:28

@bellsbuss i think I might do that.

Btw I realise this is a most trivial post!

I haven't had a shellac type manicure for 5 years and so I'd invested a lot of thought in it 😁

What do you mean there’s no nail underneath only the quick. What on Earth is this describing?

Moredarkchocolateplease · 27/05/2023 21:43

I mean I had them filed as short as they would go, so almost down to the nail quick. You know, the bit where your nail meets the nail bed. There is no white bit at the end of my nail. They can't be filed any shorter.

There will be somewhere open tomorrow, try a shopping centre or a primark with a nail bar rather than local salons.

Moredarkchocolateplease · 27/05/2023 22:01

@LeoEisor thank you, I will, this is a very very minor inconvenience!

Polkadottyas · 28/05/2023 05:25

If you can find a nail bar then I'd go ask for a repair. Gutted for you as I totally get where you're coming from and. It IS very annoying. I had this happen at Center parcs after a very £££ Shellac

DeflatedAgain · 28/05/2023 06:13

Use nail glue.

Agree with PP get a similar colour to take with you

lemonaddde · 28/05/2023 08:12

Nail glue won't do anything for only gel polish if there is no acrylic nail to stick back down?

Muncha · 28/05/2023 09:24

Why did they do that?!

Moredarkchocolateplease · 28/05/2023 09:28

Because I asked them to! I hate nails that are over the end of the finger.

I asked them to file as short as possible.

Go to a nail bar at the airport? I don’t know if there is one in every airport but def one at BHX as I had mine done there.

Moredarkchocolateplease · 28/05/2023 15:59

Thanks @Sorcière i tried the original place this morning but they were fully booked. They have given me another manicure for free.

Nowhere else was open in my town this morning.

Doesn't help me now though! I found a perfect match in superdrug so if the whole nail does come off I can paint the odd nail.

Nothing at the airport.

If your nails are super short, it was probably that the free edge at the top wasn’t capped properly (hard to do on very short nails without getting product on the skin) you will likely lose the other nails which is a pain. If your nails are as short as I’m visualising, she should have left them a tiny bit longer to allow for the capping. I agree you might be better off with a normal Polish for even three days to just get a tiny bit of growth. I know it’s a pain waiting to get them done again though!

Candymay · 28/05/2023 16:37

I still can’t picture what’s happened from what you’re describing. Polish has come off. But you can’t put more polish. And now you’re describing whole nail coming off. You’ve gone for a manicure shellac or similar. They’ve filed your nails short. Done the polish. Polish peeled off thumb but you can’t paint normal polish on this thumbnail? I’m intrigued by this. Can you tell me once more?

Moredarkchocolateplease · 28/05/2023 17:03

@Yummymummy2020 thanks, it is!

I'm OK, it's just one of those things I guess. All the other nails seem fine so far.

OP posts:
Moredarkchocolateplease · 28/05/2023 17:04

@Candymay the polish has lifted on one side of the nail but is welded to the other side. So at some point I expect I'll catch the bit that's lifted and the whole thing will rip off my thumb.

So it's bonded one side of the nail but not the other.

I have never heard of a two week opi manicure… normally gel (BIAB)or shellac are the ones that are used for long lasting manicures. Was it a normal polish?
