It’s another wedding one! Is this dress too bright?

Have bought this dress for wedding next week but now I’m having second thoughts. Is it too bright? I have read online now that bright colours are a no-no as you need to blend into the background.

I won’t be in any photos, except perhaps a group shot.

ps.

I understand that many of you will be tempted to post and just say things like “yuck, I wouldn’t wear that dress anywhere, OP” and “you’re going to look like a nasty skank in that dress” and “do you always choose such awful things to wear, OP? Or just when you’re trying to ruin someone else’s wedding?”

Please try not to be nasty. Obviously I am not looking for a character assassination. Just some wedding etiquette advice. 😂

Have also included a link, for those that don’t mind clicking through.

Thanks!

I think that's absolutely fine for a wedding in Summer.

RatherBeRiding · 19/05/2023 15:25

Absolutely fine - and the blending into the background is a new one on me!

SaltyColin · 19/05/2023 15:26

It's lush! 😍

PiriPiriChicken · 19/05/2023 15:34

Thank you! Panic subsiding.

It’s lovely. Not too bright at all.

MistressE · 19/05/2023 15:35

Any bride or groom that would take issue with what one of their guests is wearing is utterly unfathomable to me.

Each and every one of my 50 guests were special to my partner and I, and they could have turned up in anything and I wouldn’t have even noticed let alone been pissy about it

Aquamarine1029 · 19/05/2023 15:36

You will definitely not look like a nasty skank.

Peridot1 · 19/05/2023 15:37

That’s lovely.

I agree, but we just eloped to Gretna and then had a massive knees-up in our garden the week after, so it was very casual.

I don’t know the bride very well. (Groom is husband’s friend). I wouldn’t want to make any assumptions and stick out like a sore thumb!

Looks perfect for a wedding.

ChristmasKraken · 19/05/2023 15:42

Beautiful dress.

And just so I'm clear, the rules are now that we can't wear anything with any white or cream, or vaguely pale, anything black or red, and now no bright colours either? Are guests all basically supposed to dress in grey? (or maybe that's also too close to white... 😂)

SilentParrot · 19/05/2023 15:44

why would you worry anyone would call you a skank for wearing that dress? Confused

Seems perfectly fine to me.

Not green either: unlucky. Or anything somber obviously.

DiscoStusMoonboots · 19/05/2023 15:46

Love it! Wear it.

FlounderingFruitcake · 19/05/2023 15:46

It’s perfectly fine for a wedding! Definitely not nasty skank territory (wtf?) and will look especially fab if you get a sunny day.

PiriPiriChicken · 19/05/2023 15:54

To be clear, I don’t think I’m a skank. It’s just a little joke about how things can escalate quickly on MN.

(“What should I buy my husband for his birthday?”

“He should be buying his own presents. LTB”)

Agree OP, some S&B threads have taken really weird and nasty turns recently. Which is a shame because it was generally a supportive place. Some posters seem to think all threads are AIBU.

Staticgirl · 19/05/2023 16:00

I really like that dress. it will brighten up a grey day and really sing if it's sunny. Nice find!

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 19/05/2023 16:00

It's gorgeous!

Oh no, what's wrong with red?

Love your dress OP.

Love your dress OP.

Isn’t it obvious? If Chris de Burgh comes on at the disco, everyone will be looking at you instead of the bride!

See also: baggy trousers.

Always4Brenner · 19/05/2023 16:22

Love it lovely and bright for summer.

eggandonion · 19/05/2023 16:25

I was at quite a posh wedding recently and there were a lot of bright clothes. More than pastels.

JaninaDuszejko · 19/05/2023 16:25

I'm disappointed, I was hoping for a dress made out of high-vis material.
