(And it's a very 80's denim shirt!)

I think it could look quite modern with high waisted wide leg jeans or trousers but not skinnies

DustyLee123 · 19/05/2023 10:52

Age is no barrier, wear what you want.

DustyLee123 · 19/05/2023 10:52

It’s a lovely shirt !

Luredbyapomegranate · 19/05/2023 10:52

I don’t know but I like it.

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 19/05/2023 10:54

I do! I'm busty so need to tie shirts or they hang straight down from the boobs and make me look like a ship in full sail.

cpphelp · 19/05/2023 10:56

I'm 1985, so 37, and I don't like this. Sorry.

this made me lol

SellFridges · 19/05/2023 11:12

I do with a couple of outfits. High waisted cropped trousers mostly

Snoozinandlosin · 19/05/2023 11:12

If you waste enough of your life watching TikTok then you’ll know that this is ok to do again. E.g. over the skims lounge dress to make it more casual. I like it.

octoberafternoons · 19/05/2023 12:01

I've seen shirts styled like this on quite a few clothing websites recently.

MadEyeMoodysEye · 19/05/2023 12:04

I wore a shirt tied at the waist like that the other day, with high waisted cropped trousers and sandals. No idea if it was "in" or not but I thought it looked nice. I'm 42.

WoofWoofBeachLife · 19/05/2023 12:14

I love this look, go for it. I might raid my Husbands shirts for one this weekend to put over a strappy dress. Unless MN says noooooo 🤣🤣

wildfirewonder · 19/05/2023 12:16

I like it.

Crikeyalmightey · 19/05/2023 12:18

I like it, too. Anything goes!

doopsy · 19/05/2023 12:39

My 20 year old daughter does, or she gathers them and wraps a hair bobble round rather than tying.

But what if "what I want" is to be fashionable?

Then we shall, gently, try to turn you away from that, and nudge you towards being stylish instead.

Remember fashion is an industry geared up to getting you to buy more clothes, whether you need them or not regardless of environmental cost, and doesn't actually care how you look. Style OTOH is all about finding what you feel good in, and believe suits you best

(This section is style and beauty. Not fashion).

Yawn. Some of us want both. It’s so tedious to be policed constantly, even on the frigging S&B board.

Agree. All over IG and TikTok, as a variant of the French tuck.

Changeforachange · 19/05/2023 16:06

I like it.

Let's make the tie front shirt the new Mumsnet signature look.

JaninaDuszejko · 19/05/2023 16:07

DD1(15) does this all the time so yes, very fashionable. AuntieStella will be glad to hear she does it with all the vintage shirts she buys from charity shops so both fashionable and environmentally friendly.

D20 · 19/05/2023 16:20

Yes.

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 19/05/2023 20:27

Looks ok to me. I've seen a variation on this, involving pulling the shirt ends through trouser belt loops and crossing them over somehow, which looks good too. Can't remember exactly how, someone else will know!

notwavingbutdrowning1 · 19/05/2023 20:44

My 21-year-old DD does it a lot. She's very cool and stylish.
