Obviously the real eighties/early nineties fashion moment is pulling the hem of your t shirt back and up through the neck to make a bra top, cos your mum wouldn't let you have one.

No. Can't remember when I last saw that look.

Assignedtoworryyourmother · 20/05/2023 10:31

On holiday, yes. On holiday, I aim to dress like Star in The Lost Boys. At home with my regular clothes and style, definitely not.

This was linked to in the "Summer Capsule Wardrobe" thread.

It's another one of those tips about " how to look French" pieces. Personally I think the clichés about "French style" are beyond daft but if you don't, scroll to "tip" 6

Then we shall, gently, try to turn you away from that, and nudge you towards being stylish instead.

Remember fashion is an industry geared up to getting you to buy more clothes, whether you need them or not regardless of environmental cost, and doesn't actually care how you look. Style OTOH is all about finding what you feel good in, and believe suits you best

(This section is style and beauty. Not fashion).

This is one of the most ridiculous posts I've read. There is nothing wrong with being 'fashionable' - it's great fun. Clothes should be a joyous expression of individuality and fashion is a significant part of that.

The problem is that there is very little 'style' on MN.

Looks ok to me. I've seen a variation on this, involving pulling the shirt ends through trouser belt loops and crossing them over somehow, which looks good too. Can't remember exactly how, someone else will know!

Sounds like a loo disaster waiting to happen 😬

It wasn't a ridiculous post and I think you're taking it out of context as it referred back to someone asking if they couldn't wear a shirt like this if they wanted to be "fashionable"

There's nothing wrong with being interested in fashion but if doing so means you're too scared to wear something you like in case it isn't "fashionable" or wearing something hideous just because it's "fashionable" then you (general you) might want to think about it.

For example these monstrosities might be "fashionable" - I wouldn't be seen dead in them, ever. Ripped Jeans Same with puffer coats.

Equally I'm not going to pay a second's attention to anyone who tells me ballet pumps or florals are "so dated"

Clothes should be a joyous expression of individuality and fashion is a significant part of that. Well it's hardly a "joyous expression of individuality" if you (general you) are too scared to wear something in case it's not fashionable.

Well, we asked an expert on the matter—a fashion guru who has been around the block and back again with all things fashion—and she had some interesting things to say about it.

Yes I do with a white shirt. I think it looks lovely when accessorised nicely.

MelanieSal · 12/10/2023 11:19

Yes I do - went to the shops in a tied shirt a few days ago. A lower tie though - just below waist level, rather than my much loved above-waist shirt ties of the 90s.

Amilliondollars · 12/10/2023 18:13

I do this occasionally but the last time I did it apparently it was double denim which my teens complained about 😐
