Best gym leggings for weights?

I'm 46, getting a bit of middle aged spread on the tummy and am finding my leggings are rolling at the waist when I squat!
I used to wear nearly exclusively tikiboo but they just aren't staying put.

I've been looking online but there is so much choice and a lot of the reviewers are much younger and keen on the bubble-butt look so I'm not sure how accurate their reviews will be.

Please help me find some good gym leggings! I'm 5'3" 65 kg, big boobs big bum

I find some thicker gym legging material really itches and makes me scratch so I bruise too.

Happy to pay for pricier brands but only if they are worth it.

H&M leggings are really good, squat proof, comfy and I find that they don't roll when I'm squatting etc.

Silvergoldandglitter · 30/04/2023 12:24

I'm a powerlifter so squat loads and use AYBL.

AdamRyan · 30/04/2023 12:26

I was looking at aybl silver - which style are best?

Despite my issues with Sweaty Betty leggings re quality, I find they stay put. As do M&S.

AdamRyan · 30/04/2023 12:31

Which sweaty Betty style calypso?

The brands all have multiple styles and it blows my mind what the differences are. I tried to use the sweaty Betty quiz but it broke my phone

I usually get the Power 7/8 leggings.

AdamRyan · 03/05/2023 19:44

I hate it when there are no updates - so I bought some aybl ones, am not a fan, they feel like extra thick tights and show off every lump and bump. Probably look fab if you are toned and in your 20s but not for me
Think I'm going to have to go to an actual shop and try some!

I wear almost exclusively gymshark. I have some ryderwear ones that I like also.
I have 3 pairs of aybl 2 I love and one I hate.
Physiq apparel do some nice ones too as do pursue fitness

Post-menopause, I started to hate wearing gym leggings, there's something about the way they feel on the skin that I can no longer deal with. Instead, I wear 70s & 80s style running shorts.

But, if you want to stick to leggings, just make sure they're high-waisted as they don't roll down mid deadlift, squat etc. In this respect, these H&M ones are great, and what I wore before my sensory issues. The ribbing takes away from any lumps and bumps too.

I swear by Matalan leggings for all work outs - under £20, supportive but not too thick, high waist, decent length, squat proof.

Carmelalefou · 03/05/2023 20:12

I wear the black Nike 7/8 leggings. They are fab, hold me in and don't roll down. I do weightlifting.

prescribingmum · 03/05/2023 20:13

M&S Goodmove and Sweaty Betty power leggings. I started a thread asking for recommendations about 1.5 years ago and got both based on responses. I am really happy with both, they’ve washed well and are still worn daily. For the price, M&S are brilliant value for money - they stay put and are completely squat proof

Verite1 · 03/05/2023 20:15

Sweaty Betty power leggings. Pricey but they often have offers.

Verite1 · 03/05/2023 20:16

They come up quite long. 7/8 are nearly full length. I like cropped best.

dammiejodger · 03/05/2023 20:16

Fabletics

glasshalfsomething · 03/05/2023 20:17

CRZ yoga on Amazon. Best dupe for Sweaty Betty and a quarter of the price! Totally squat proof and super comfortable

StoatofDisarray · 03/05/2023 20:18

Another weightlifter here. I also were sweaty Betty. If I were you, I'd get yourself down to the shops, try some on, and start squatting in the cubicle. Whatever stays put and feels comfortable will be the right size and cut for you. I would recommend getting full length ones to give some coverage if you'd want to use any of the machines that rub/move against your shins or your ankles.

mynameiscalypso · 30/04/2023 12:37

I usually get the Power 7/8 leggings.

I use these. I squat over 100kg in them without them budging.

dementedpixie · 03/05/2023 20:20

I also like matalan leggings. I usually buy the capri ones

Dente · 03/05/2023 20:20

M&S have a specific line that are squat proof. Also recommend sizing up.

sofasofa42 · 03/05/2023 20:25

Honestly- tried them all- sweaty Betty is the only brand that works and lasts . Get them discount online . I am tall chubby girl and work well with a medium ( I am clinging to a size 14 atm) . With work out pants it's definitely a case of buy cheap buy twice. Have tons of crap ones that just fell down. M and s were ok- but honestly they look so ugly on. I wore my new SB leggings the other day and my husband was as " my god you look trim".

GCWorkNightmare · 03/05/2023 20:29

Sweaty Betty have several outlet stores. My last 2 pairs were £30 each instead of £80.

TheChoiceIsYours · 03/05/2023 20:32

I always wear Sweaty Betty in the gym and it’s never occurred to me that leggings need to be ‘squat proof’ and that there could be a problem with them. So that tells you something! I just wear them and they don’t cross my mind!

emmathedilemma · 03/05/2023 20:35

I prefer flanci to tikiboo these days. I didn’t like the fabric of sweaty Betty leggings, they felt really warm and restrictive but I know everyone raves about them, I’m just not sure why? The M&S good move leggings are comfy but again, they’re quite thick and I find the long ones too warm in the gym.

fiorentina · 03/05/2023 20:37

Sweaty Betty power leggings are squat proof and not see through!
