Sandals/shoes for a boiling hot office in summer

SweetSakura · 29/04/2023 21:48

I'm dreading this summer. I have a neurological condition that means I am very heat sensitive and our office is boiling hot.

I think I'd love some sandals that look smart enough for the office but will help me stay as cool as possible. They need to be flat (ish) due to my neurological condition.

It's public sector so dress code isnt too strict but I have quite a senior role so feel the pressure to look smart really

(The office used to be freezing to the point I took in huge thick cardigans to wear in the summer, so this is a new challenge!)

I have just bought some Blowfish sandals from Schuh a kind of low wedge. They are supremely comfortable with kind on spongey feel to the soul. Look smart or casual. They come in a pinky beige or a leopard print. I also got 20% off so even better. https://www.schuh.co.uk/womens/blowfish-malibu-laela-vegan-pale-pink-sandals/1744643360/

These look great. Was it an April discount code that I've now missed? Are they true to size?

Something like this and keep a can of foot spray in your bag.

I have ridiculously hot feet (that swell). I shall be experimenting with a cooling gel pad during the day. Last summer I used freezer blocks at night.

SweetSakura · 01/05/2023 19:46

Oh they sound like a good idea @DisplayPurposesOnly .

I have a neurological condition that is exacerbated by heat- it feels like my muscles are melting. I shall look up the gel pads.

Am still undecided which shoes might work. They need to be formal enough for v smart meetings but also work in a melting hot office.

Also interested in the discount code. I think these are the ones I am most tempted by. Did you get the pink ones? My only thought is whether they will start to look grubby after time.

I wear leather pointed flat sling backs. Quite smart as filled in toe, but not too hot and comfortable. You can buy cooling spray or gel, could that help?

Sorry it was a Unidays discount as I work in education which finished about a week ago. I tried the pink ones on and whilst they are probably more versatile colour because my natural skin tone is so pale I opted for the funkier print ones. They really are so surprisingly lovely and comfortable. They may do another discount.

Nice and lightweight. Mine are the tan and black ones.

Oops, wrong thread! Ignore.

WandaWonder · 02/05/2023 00:43

Our office we have to have closed toe shoes, so are sandals OK in your office?

(Open toe ones I mean)

SweetSakura · 02/05/2023 00:51

I'm not actually sure @WandaWonder ...atlhough if the temperature remains as ouf control as if currently is i can't see them enforcing any dress code! That said, if matters to me to look sufficiently professional as my role is quite senior, and I am in two minds about open toes.

Could you have a tiny fan under the desk pointed at your feet? Or use a cooling pad thing I use for my dog. Its a flat, gel pad, so you could take your shoes off and rest your feet on it?

If you have a medical issue- your work place should be making reasonable adjustments to help with this- such as a fan, or even better, WFH a few days a week when its really hot. Have you asked about this?

learieonthewildmoor · 02/05/2023 05:40

Camper makes sandals called “Right”. They are super comfortable and are dressy enough for work.

Hi yes work are really supportive, I am able to work from home and if there are adjustments they can make they would make them. But the reality is I lead a large team and I need to be in the office on the days they are in , not because work tell me I have to but because to me that's part of leadership..

I don't think any open-toed sandals look smart and most of the ones suggested here are very casual, imo

If you are going to wear open-toed you need to have impeccable nails, and heels that aren't dry or cracked. If you have any sort of fungal infection then forget it! I don't want to see my colleagues' mouldy toe nails, thank you.

Luredbyapomegranate · 02/05/2023 08:41

I think closed shoes - light smart trainers? - and cooling pads.

Offices with lots of people in sandals inevitably smell of feet.
