Hel0 for a wedding dress for a 50 year old bride

I am getting married but am stuck wedding dress shopping. We have a formalish wedding in my STBDH country and then a party in London two months later. ( i have attached a pic as i found a dress for that and to give an idea of my style )

Gor the main day, i am struggling. I tried on a plain gown with a beautiful back, but I don't know, I feel too old..

Any ideas? I'd like something quirky. Size 14. Budget up to £2k hugh neck as décolleté is buggered by years of sun..

I dont think that gown is right. I'd go for something more streamlined.

OMGitsnotgood · 29/04/2023 17:18

i think the front of the dress looks perfect on you, too much material at the back.

If I were you with that budget I wouldn't be looking at a wedding dress. I'd spend £2,000 on the most fabulous dress I could find and wear it on every occasion.

I don’t have any suggestions but you look absolutely beautiful in the wedding dress you tried on.

Do you want quirky quirky or wedding dress quirky? If you're open to ideas you could try a personal shopper service at one of the big stores. I got married in my mid 50s and was tearing my hair out about finding a dress, John Lewis personal shopper sorted out two excellent possibilities in less than an hour.

The second one us lovely but may be a bit to 'patterny'

Well, I like the idea of a Cape..

JL or selfridges could be worth it. I am there in June.

Can also order online if there are any cool suggestions 😊

If you go for a fab ball gown/evening dress you might be more likely to get something quirky. Have a look on net a porter for inspiration.

Oooo am so pleased. Thought you might like the cape.

SirVixofVixHall · 29/04/2023 18:50

The Roksanda cape dress is beautiful. I think you want old school glamour OP, and that dress gives it.

Bansheed · 29/04/2023 18:54

Sold out. Ugh! Was stupidly excited

@Bansheed
When is the wedding? Would you have time to have something similar made if you showed the dressmaker a picture of the Roksanda dress. From someone who knows FA about sewing, it doesn't look amazingly complicated.....

I have a while. Do these types of dresses come back in stock?

Now we are talking ladies. I have written to Roksana asking about re stocking.

My London dress is Taller Marmo, but th think that one is not quite flattering enough.

The Safiyaa one is definitely an option!

If you look at The Outnet website and search for Jenny Packham and the colour white, there are a few nice ones with capes in your size and budget. I looked at some of the Safiyaa ones but they seem to be polyester, which isn't what I'd expect for £2k!

MerylSqueak · 29/04/2023 19:53

@Paq where was the second dress you posted from please? I've no intention of marrying again, an DH would certainly be against it, but I love it!

restisall · 29/04/2023 20:05

The first cape one is incredible, go for that!

HisOliveTree · 29/04/2023 20:37

Oh OP, I didn't check to see if it was in stock 🤦‍♀️ Sorry.
