Waisted dresses

At the grand age of 47 after lots of mistakes I seem to have figured out what suits me. I have a triangle shape with broadish shoulders compared with my waist and hips. I am petite and slim (size 6-8) - 5ft 2 with skinny long legs for my height, usually wear regular length jeans.

I need a dress with a defined waist - structured? The oversize voluminous kaftan dresses don't suit me nor do the straight up and down shapes or the ones that are A-line. I seem to be okay with midi length if it is not too long. Knee length or above knee is out of fashion these days I think and I feel frumpy in that length.

Would absolutely love some suggestions please S&B gurus!!

I got this from Zara the the day. I definitely need waist detail. www.zara.com/uk/en/floral-print-midi-dress-p03401243.html?v1=258547846&v2=2184288

I find Joe Browns good for waisted dresses.

I think you need to search for “fit and flare” dresses. I’ve often seen lovely ones from Damsel in a Dress. And of course, the current fashion for vintage 50s style might be worth looking at.

I love a nice fitted tailored dress. I think they really are uncomplicated ways of looking well-dressed, so it’s great you’ve found your shape/style.

It’s also moments like these make me glad I make most of my clothes myself. I don’t need to be tied to current “fashions”

Jersey is not your friend.

Try bias cut viscose (comes out longer the thinner/longer legs you have) that gives you your own waist back and looks grown up. Reduces broad shoulders cos there’s no bulk.

Easy as nightie to wear. Try Ghost in sale or high st ripoff.

Marking place as I also need a waist (though am more on the pear shape side).

I have noticed more and more waisted dresses in the shops recently, compared with the tents of the past few years. Hooray! Quite a lot with a smocked waistband - I guess it means it fits a wider range of sizes/shapes than a fitted waist.

Hi, have a look at Emily & Fin. They do lovely lined cotton dresses with pockets in lots of different styles but mostly waisted. They can be a bit expensive but have good sales. I love them and have about 10!

I'm wondering where people's waists are. A lot I of these will just be under my bust. I'd love a dress that isn't empire line on me.

Carry on as you were and I'll check in

Are you quite tall?
I am, and sometimes have the same issue.
