Find me a fabulous bag (please!)

I’m in the mood for a new fabulous bag, but I am fussy and can’t find what I want. Budget is not at Chanel levels but happy to pay for something really special. My criteria:

• probably black, but a nice soft kind of black rather than shiny/patent/likely to scratch. Open to a lighter more summery colour though
• everyday rather than just evening (I have a couple of beautiful bags for evening already)
• not too obvious a logo. I do like the Gucci Marmont style but the GGs are too much for my taste (and lifestyle if I’m honest!)
• small-ish - I’m really short and don’t want a big bag
• adjustable or short-ish strap that I can wear cross body. I tried on the Gucci Marmont camera bag and liked the style but the strap was just too long (and the GGs too obvious, as above!)

Any ideas? I’m in no rush so happy to just get some inspiration from you knowledgable people! Thank you 😊

It's not adjustable, but I haven't found it too long. I'm 5'4" (on a good posture day 😂). My only quibble is the fiddly zip.

Have you looked at Dragon Diffusion at all? They're much less expensive, but really nice quality and a good range.

I do like the Bottega Veneta bags too. Definitely on my list to go and have a play with in person. I think I really need to do this rather than order online. I’m regretting the Loewe mini gate bag order already as I’ve watched a couple of videos on YouTube and it looks TINY. It’s so hard to see the real size from photos (looking at you Gucci who keep including photos of the bigger sizes being carried by models on the sales details for the minis 🙄).

Small update. Loewe mini gate dual bag arrived. Absolutely beautifully made - you can see and feel the quality, but it’s REALLY small. I love a small bag as I’m short myself, and if I have a big bag I stuff it so it’s then too heavy, but this is really pushing it. Can fit my phone, a card holder and keys in but that’s really it, and it’s too expensive to just be a bag for special occasions - I need it to work for everyday. The search continues!

Oh 🙈. I have to confess, I went through a Fairfax and Favor stage but I’ve actually sold a load of bags/boots to fund this new purchase 🙈. They are very lovely bags, and I enjoyed wearing them at the time, but they weren’t very ‘me’ and I always felt a bit wrong carrying them. Not sure why!

Thank you though! And the Loxley is probably closest out of the F&F bags to what I’m after 🙂. Just not exactly right!

Small update - I finally managed to go and have a play with some bags 🥳

I ruled out:

• Louis Vuitton Diane. Too big and heavy, plus the sales assistants were really snotty and unwelcoming
• Bottega Veneta: just didn’t like the style in person although I’d liked it online. Too fussy perhaps?
• Chloe: new style Marcie chain flap bag. Liked the carry handle and feel of the bag, not so keen on the very thin chain strap and it was just a bit long for me (and non-adjustable)
• Mulberry Lily. Nice, liked it, but didn’t get a WOW feeling.
• Loewe puzzle. The mini was tiny, much smaller than I expected and the next size up felt too big. Beautiful bag, just didn’t love it for me (although I may have accidentally bought myself a belt while I was there 😬)
• YSL: did like the style of the Soferino, but the catch was a bit fiddly and the YSL logo a bit obvious for what I want from a day bag
• Gucci: Marmont camera bag (the one where the GGs are all black). I did like it but just didn’t get that ‘quality’ vibe that I’d expect for the price. HOWEVER…

My two favourites were the Celine Teen Triomphe (which I think actually may have been the one that triggered my search 🙈) and the Gucci Horsebit 1955 mini. I went back twice to try each bag, and while I loved the Celine, it’s very smart and shiny and I think the logo/catch is a bit too heavy for every day. The Gucci felt more like a bag I could dress up or down depending on the occasion and just more ‘me’. So o think I have a winner! Only thing is it’s way above budget so I need to think long and hard about this as if I get it, I won’t be buying another black bag ever 🤣. So thank you everyone for all your suggestions and help, and I’ll update if I ever actually buy the damn thing!

Yay love an update on a bag thread ! Which Gucci horsebit Mini are you looking at can you give a link pretty please as I've googled it but it's come up with a few? Is that mini not like the Loewe mini? I know what you mean about the Celine but they always look so exquisite! Oooo now I need a new belt...

It’s this one! Actually much nicer in the flesh than online. I like the interchangeable strap too. I’m still not 100% sure whether I’ll actually buy it though. I’ve never spent that much money on one frivolous thing and it’s so expensive that I’d need to be absolutely sure. But I’ve really enjoyed the search so even if I end up not buying it, I’ve had a lot of fun looking!

Wow gorgeous bags! And you are right it's fun looking and you have to be really sure before making a huge purchase! I got the YSL is it Lou camera bag last year and slightly regretting the gold hardware logo, should have got the black oh well! I was looking at the belts last night all oos in my size! Typical but clearly I shouldn't be spending the money. I also thought about getting a watch to wear every day instead of a bag too haha I am aware we are lucky but it's the small things in life that make us happy x
