What to wear to evening wedding in field?

So, the wedding is based in a field, with marquee, fish and chip vans etc- think festival vibe. I'm there from 6:30pm - late, so thinking a dress/heels etc may not be the best. I want to be smart-ish so my camping sweatshirt and joggers may not cut it!

Ask the bride?

You think the bride should be responsible for creating individual outfits for each guest? Hmm The OP isn’t asking about a dress code - she wants ideas - which is what S&B is for …

But surely a dress code is exactly what she does need to narrow things down.

I've been to 2 Receptions in fields, where they were 'jeans and walking boots' dress code.
Some of the clothes suggested on here would be quite out of place.

OTOH, a 3rd one I went to did have people floating about in the more formal clothes they had worn to the Church.

Checking in with the bride, or someone closely involved in the planning, is exactly what I would be doing first.

What length of dress do you prefer OP.
Something like this would look great with DMs but maybe too short?

Dress, socks, boots, jazzy earrings, fake fur or a leather jacket and a blanket scarf. The sun will go down, the dew will land and anyone in a pashmina will be sorry they didn't rug up.

Nothing that's going to trail on the floor of the portaloo.

Agree it does depend how 'rural' - we had a marquee, a converted for the day stable was the bar, all linked with concrete 'yard' covered with gazebo so if it rained nobody would get wet, the marquee had a wooden dance floor, and we hired a posh unit with flushing loos and scented soap - even had flowers in there. Admittedly it was the only loos we could find available (rest busy with local events)

Whatever you do take a lovely warm coat in case it's cold. I once went to an outside wedding in august and it was f*** freezing, I still have neck problems from getting so cold that day 😭

I went to a wedding in a field/yurt a few years ago. I wore a pair of wide legged trousers and a silk strappy top, with a pashmina. It was freezing in the evening so I regretted the thin top, but the trousers worked well. A maxi dress would have been a nightmare with the mud and portaloos, and a short dress uncomfortable because the seating was just cushions on the floor of the yurt. It’s a tricky one to get right, and a lot depends on the weather.

@lidolemon are you going to take a bag roomy enough for spare “stuff”? The wedding we’re going to is day and then into evening (if we can make it that long 😳).

I’m sure you’ll look gorgeous in it 😘@faffadoodledo

For proper festival vibes I’d go with pretty much anything sequinned and amazing from here https://www.rosabloom.com/ and a pair of DMs or fancy wellies.

Rosa Bloom - Sublime Apparel

Exquisite sequin clothing by Rosa Bloom. Hand-stitched sequin leotards, playsuits, and jumpsuits, plus sequin leggings, hotpants, and more festival fashion.

This would be my choice.
