M&S Fashion This Season- Really impressed

LadyEloise1 · 19/04/2023 11:24

I was in a local M&S store recently and thought there were really lovely clothes, shoes etc to buy.
A lot more if I were 2 stone lighter and 6 inches taller Smile
I think they have really upped their game.
Does anyone else think so ?
I've been on threads moaning about M&S but I have to give credit where it's due.
Well done to whoever is responsible 👏🏻💐

yes I like the look of the light green linen suit they have

dreamingofsun · 19/04/2023 16:04

Agree. there was quite a lot i liked when i popped into a branch yesterday. A lot of classic, well made stuff that i could get a lot of use out of.

Only thing that annoys me at the moment is trouser length - why change all the lengths for regular/short etc when they could have just added an extra long? And I dont consider myself short thanks.

TollgateDebs · 19/04/2023 17:07

They have and I am very impressed by the items I have purchased, including a great linen / cotton trouser suit in a chambray colour, a soft khaki green raincoat and a couple of merrino jumpers in their sale. For the last few years they've really not been a place I've spent much money or time in, despite popping in when passing and often felt depressed viewing their range, but not this year. Whoever is purchasing / selecting items is doing a much better job. Oh, the items wash and wear well too!

midgemadgemodge · 19/04/2023 17:38

Went in a few weeks ago and couldn't stand it - impossible to find anything , clothes racks just randomly dropped around the store, signage just wrong , no staff

Crikeyalmighty · 19/04/2023 17:52

They've got a lovely v neck linen type top that I like- except it appears to be only in lime green!! I find this with M&S there will be some very nice styles only available in fairly horrible colors- I'm afraid I'm not that fond of Color, basically I want most things in grey, black, natural linen colour, white , navy or occasionalyxs bit of cobalt blue or deep pink or red-

LadyEloise1 · 19/04/2023 17:54

I couldn't have got a more helpful lady in the shoe department. Went out of her way to find my size in shoes I liked. They were about to be put on a mannequin in store some distance away from the shoe department.

I've often gone in and they've been very short staffed.

Going to add here, I think it depends on the area / store and some of the stores destined for being shut are being run down.

sonjadog · 19/04/2023 19:39

Strangely enough, I was there just an hour ago and was deeply disappointed by the selection. Nothing I wanted to try on at all!

BreakfastOfWaffles · 19/04/2023 19:41

I have found lots of things I want to buy in M&S recently. I like the colours and styles, and their prices are much more reasonable than many of the other places I shop.

I agree. I often see clothes in a style I like but in colours that won't suit me.

My nearest large store is Meadowhall, and I often find something I want to buy there.

JaneFondue · 19/04/2023 21:41

I say this often and also get accused of working for M and S!

JaneFondue · 19/04/2023 21:45

Would you mind posting a link to the raincoat @TollgateDebs?

WTFJanice · 19/04/2023 22:58

So much seems to depend on what your local store is allocated by the big computer. My local is the only M&S in the (rural) county yet we get a depressing selection of floaty kaftan 'cruisewear', many black slacks and the random-patchwork maxi dresses.

Gosh, yes! I went to Marble Arch branch the other day, used to be a flagship store , and it was really hard to find anything, there was no discernible logic to the layout at all!
I was looking for a trench coat, they were not in the coat area (which had raincoats), but in 4 different places dotted about the store. I'd wanted to buy some jersey wide leg trousers, not even the assistant knew where they were. Eventually it seemed that the ones with stripes were in a separate area from the plain ones, and the black ones were somewhere else altogether ( not with the other black trousers). And it was really overheated. It was a really uncomfortable, unsatisfying shopping experience. M& S, hope you are reading this!

JaneFondue · 20/04/2023 08:11

Thanks @TollgateDebs
That's really elegant and sleek.

WildFlowerBees · 20/04/2023 08:14

I find M&S a bit hit and miss, their sizing is odd sometimes. I love the colours they're putting out but I wish they'd not just discontinue things after one season. I bought some amazing jeans a few years ago, I can't find anything similar and I'm about to wear them out.

RampantIvy · 20/04/2023 08:23

but I wish they'd not just discontinue things after one season

I agree.

JaneFondue · 20/04/2023 08:25

Going to M and S for a bra fitting today, as it happens. Not been in store for ages.

Noooo.
Don't use their bra fitting "service". They measure incorrectly using the old plus 4 inches method.
Go elsewhere for measuring, then by all means try on bras in M and S in your correct size.

Failing that, measure under your bust for the band size, and over your bust for the cup size. If M and S don't measure under your bust then you know they have got it wrong.

BitOutOfPractice · 20/04/2023 08:44

Op I agree. And not just this season, winter was also great!

I walk through M&S every day on my way to work and so I see the stuff a lot. I’m now considerably poorer as a result.

their Good Move gym / exercise stuff is GREAT too!

Oh really? I am quite small busted. B cup so basic M and S bras have always worked for me. Though I now hate their knickers.

thebabessavedme · 20/04/2023 08:47

I saw a pair of orange trainers on the website I liked the look of, decided to go in store and try on before buying, was so disappointed in the quality v the price. I am more than happy to spend nearly £50 on trainers but not on cheap nasty ones with no staying power.

Floisme · 20/04/2023 08:48

I will always have a spot spot for M&S and I wish them well but the local store is a shitshow and I'm sure cannot be long for this world, and their website is so big, especially now that they've added other brands, that I rarely bother with it unless I'm hunting something very specific. To be fair, H&M group has gone the same way.
