M&S Fashion This Season- Really impressed

I was in a local M&S store recently and thought there were really lovely clothes, shoes etc to buy.
A lot more if I were 2 stone lighter and 6 inches taller Smile
I think they have really upped their game.
Does anyone else think so ?
I've been on threads moaning about M&S but I have to give credit where it's due.
Well done to whoever is responsible 👏🏻💐

I've always been able to get lots, and I mean lots, from M&S. My 'style' is very plain and I find them reliable for jeans- lots of different shapes, underwear, lots of basic stretchy t-shirts, fine merino jumpers, puffer coats, gym leggings, cheap earrings. Got a quilted bomber jacket recently. I don't buy much footwear there but they are one of the few places where you can rely on getting an 8/42.
I'm not interested in 99% of their stuff- nothing patterned or colourful and no dresses for me! but I think I could clothe myself for ordinary life entirely from M&S. And the prices are good value compared to most of the high street.

I am as well @JaneFondue. I went to our local excellent independent lingerie shop and came out with some brilliant 32D bras that fit perfectly. I never thought I was D cup. They are Wacoal brand.

LoveLabradors · 20/04/2023 09:06

I struggle with M and S. Rarely find much that I like. I used to love their Brazilian knickers but the quality has shockingly declined. I also find the website very poor indeed - seems very dated.

FirstnameSuesecondnamePerb · 20/04/2023 09:10

I agree.
I do wish they would do more blouse style tops that are not made out of recycled plastic bottles.

I loved last year's winter season & bought quite a bit. For spring I love the colour of the Chambray linen shirts & the denim look lyocell ones. Plus I've bought one of the cotton lawn shirt dresses they've done for a few years now. But I'm not impressed by the rest of it. I fitted into a 12 in the linen shirts, but I couldn't get into a size 18 jacket in the light green trouser suit. The winter jackets were all huge & I sized down. The summer jackets are tiny. The multipack knickers are so flimsy now.
And the bras all seem to be that horrible moulded shape & make me look massive.
That said, my local M&S is a lot better than it used to be & one of very few shops left in my town.

xogossipgirlxo · 20/04/2023 10:27

I always liked M&S clothes. Not the whole collections, but I always found something for myself there. I also like their shoes and lingerie. If I had to choose only one shop to buy my stuff from, it would be them (hello, anyone from m&s here? Where can I send my email to get voucher for this glowing opinion? 😂)

WTFJanice · 20/04/2023 12:17

My problem with M&S is this: out here in the sticks, the instore offering is woeful. Frumpy polyester as far as the eye can see. Consequently every item of M&S clothing I've bought in the last few years has been click & collect... but the website is now so cluttered with other brands and the eight bazillion variations on a midi dress theme that - more often than not - I just lose interest there too.

Our M&S is a decent-sized, two-storey prime location store, in a small city with almost no bricks and mortar clothing shops left. And yet the busiest part of the shop is the click & collect/returns drop-off chute. There have been two major refits in the last few years and it's better than it was but still nothing tempts me when I'm walking through the store. I worry that it won't be there in a year or two.

Rushes off to buy one to add a few curves to my meagre looking chest.

My local M and S isn't great, but Meadowhall is only 20 minutes away.

JaneFondue · 20/04/2023 16:19

Well I went to the massive M and S in Westfield today and bought quite a lot! Bought the same trench coat you did @TollgateDebs. Also some linen trousers, a linen blouse and a dress. I may regret the ironing involved!

There was a lot of crap as well, but I think their basics are really good.

EachandEveryone · 20/04/2023 16:24

This thread gets started every season for M and S saying how it has upped its game and we all go rushing out to but the stuff😃😃 ive does this twice now and I wont be fooled again. Its frumpy, it doesnt fit well, the only thing its good for is what it ha# always been good for, knickers, thermals and fitness wear. Oh and now the make up range it stocks.

LadyEloise1 · 20/04/2023 16:47

I started the thread @EachandEveryone because I genuinely think M&S clothes for sale this season are lovely.
I was quick enough in the last couple of years to comment negatively about M&S.
I do think the quality of fabric in their cotton knickers has greatly disimproved over the last few years.

It is a lovely trench coat and the colour a real surprise. Enjoy your purchases and my tip for linen is to spray starch the inside of the garment and iron!

M & S appear to have a magnificent array of socks...

JaneFondue · 20/04/2023 17:23

Do you mean sock puppets? Oddly no one accuses the Toast or Hush fans of being influencers or marketers, though they have entire long running threads. Just M and S.

Oh they do. I’ve seen comments that both toast and hush threads are started and kept going by staff.

brightbrightsun · 20/04/2023 17:29

I bought their dark blue wide leg, high waisted jeans. Love them!

I'm 5 ft 7 and bought a short! There was only a short left but I thought they were worth trying as I heard their leg lengths had got longer recently. They are a perfect fit.

RampantIvy · 20/04/2023 17:36

M and S leg lengths have got longer. It's silly really. At 5'7" I am taller than most of my friends and the people I work with, so it does seem that M and S have misjudged this.

Its frumpy, it doesnt fit well,

Sorry, but I disagree @EachandEveryone. Maybe you are more fashionable than I am, but I genuinely think that M and S has upped its game. I also find that their clothes fit my pear shape better than they did before.

QuintanaRoo · 20/04/2023 17:56

yes, I agree I can’t buy trousers from them anymore as even their shortest length is too long for me. Yes, I’m short but not abnormally so.

I got some nice Cotton dresses from them last year. I prefer cotton over viscose and they seem to be moving towards more viscose which is a shame.

Hush havent had one one for years now. Another shop thats lost its quality and upped its prices. Also never changes its style.
