Hello. I need some serious help from you stylish types.

My go- to daily wear is bright leggings (some have dinosaurs on), a navy t shirt and a hoody. Which is ok at home but not for meals out with work etc.

I have been ill for a long time, now in remission and have my mojo back. I’ve just started couch to 5k, feeling much better.

Please can you help me with a smart/casual work wardrobe? I need to feel comfy, the clothes need to wash and pack well, I don’t want to feel eighty but I have no idea where to start!

I had my colours done years ago and I am a bright winter.

Any ideas very very gratefully received!

I love this look... can go as bright as you like with kimonos and if your comfortable in leggings M&s do some really good quality ones in all different colours.

Oooh thanks @sealon82
I quite like that though would be worried about my saggy belly showing below the blouse 🙁

I do like the kimono giving a flowy look…
Where is good for Kimonos? Could I pull that off with flat shoes or sandals? My crappy arthritic feet mean I can’t wear heels at all.

I went to Tkmaxx this morning and they had some lovely kimonos in there swimwear section. They also do great shape wear to hold you in if your worried.
I'd wear with some nice trainers, I've just got some Puma Mayze and love them, really comfortable. You could also wear with some flat Birkenstock sandles, George @ Asda have some nice ones.

Thanks @sealon82 , I have some Birkenstocks so that sounds good!

Any other suggestions gratefully received. I was looking at some wide leg linen trousers on M and S. Are they suitable for casual meal out? What top would go? Or what style of top?
when I have worn wide leg stuff before it can make me look every bottom heavy, which I think is why I like leggings.
But maybe I should try wide leg?

Anyone have any suggestions of influencers I could look at to get ideas? I have googled plus size influencers but they all seem to be much younger than me.

I'm taller but similar age and 18-20. I'm no stylist but so find those linen trousers they do at various shops (next and Asda for me) are great.

I'll look into the kimono too as I get sooooo hot with peri flushes it's embarrassing so need light floaty things to wear /hide offending curves and sweating

SpringOn · 07/04/2023 14:54

Thanks @custardbear

What do you wear on top with those trousers? A vest top and cardigan?

DisplayPurposesOnly · 07/04/2023 15:14

I'm a similar size and a bit shorter than you, I don't think I can carry off wide leg trousers anymore. Boot cut and flares are back, they are more flattering.

I like semi-fitted tops (I still have a waist somehow😊) and a-line skirts (they skim my stomach and thighs).

sealon82 · 07/04/2023 15:15

Something like this with linen trousers and wrap over tops, gives the illusion of a smaller waist. Next are normally pretty good for tops.

sealon82 · 07/04/2023 15:17

And I agree, go with a slim fit or bootcut with the trousers. I went a hoppy last week and there's some really nice trousers in H&M

*shopping not hopping 😂

Yes that sort of thing or long floaty tops - I'll find a favourite style and post of Wallis still do it ...

AG247 · 07/04/2023 15:25

It’s really hard to comment without actually seeing your figure and shape etc.

regarding linen trousers, they often look lovely with a matching linen oversize shirt 1- loose floaty and comfy even with heels for an evening meal.

You need to work out which parts of your body you want to accentuate and that which you want to hide. If you have a small waist there are plenty of tailored, oversized high waist trousers around which sit at a really flattering part of the waist for pretty much everyone.

I wouldn’t suggest going for anything TOO oversize as it can actually make you look larger and can be quite frumpy too. If you upload a body picture (sans head for comfort) you may get better assistance!)

SpringOn · 07/04/2023 15:34

@AG247 ok, you asked for it 😂😂
Here are two full length ones. I usually avoid cameras like the plague

I can see the second dress is more flattering in the shape, but it doesn’t have any arms and I don’t like that. The red one I can see isn’t flattering, but it is more comfy!

No real useful comments to make except you have a gorgeous figure! Love your curves and swerves 😀

NoTeaNoShade · 07/04/2023 15:38

P.s I hope that doesn't make me sound weird, just want to say you look great

SpringOn · 07/04/2023 15:40

@NoTeaNoShade I’m blushing. Genuinely I don’t think my figure has ever been referred to as gorgeous before. Even by my beloved DH!
Thank you. And yes, I do have curves! Mostly in the right places but also quite a lot in the wrong ones 😂😂

Well, you look great and have lovely legs and arms. Your husband is a lucky guy! 😊

SpringOn · 07/04/2023 16:12

Well before I read the messages from @AG247 and @sealon82 I had already ordered these from M and S
i’m also covering kimonos. Just worried about taking the plunge and then never wearing them because I look like I am trying too hard? Does that make any sense?

For anyone looking for kimonos: https://escapeboutique.co.uk/collections/kimono

I love these! Is the sizing reasonable, though? Always wary of one size fits all.

SpringOn · 07/04/2023 16:41

@beastlyslumber it says up to 18. I’m hoping it will work for me. I have taken the plunge and ordered one. This one. And some vest tops in white, navy and dark purple.

I love the fabric. And that it is a Kew Gardens design. There’s an even more gorgeous one in purple but it is sold out
