I’ve been growing my hair for a good few years but have had it every length under the sun in the past.

I’m bored of it now and have decided it’s time for the chop and originally wanted it to be shoulder length but I’m going to donate my hair and it needs to be at least 8” which would take us to bob length. I’ve got a 17 month old and am 20 weeks pregnant so want something low maintenance but don’t want to look like I’ve given up and gone for a mum bob.

I’ll attach a pic of my my hair but there’s lots of it and I have a cow’s lick so a full fringe doesn’t work (but a side fringe does). It’s pretty straight but has developed a slight wave over the last few years.

You suit any of your attached hair styles.
I like the bob style with a clip you have in your hair.
I think any bob style in any length usually suits a person. Softer cut than hard looking by using shaping.
Any good hairdesser will help.

NormaTheWife · 02/04/2023 10:31

IMO if you feel you have to cut your hair then the ones of you with the bob look the best.

NormaTheWife · 02/04/2023 10:32

and you can wear it messy too.

UpToonGirl · 02/04/2023 10:40

You've lovely hair op, I know exactly what you're worried about though. I think you would look great with quite a short Bob with a long side fringe but I would worry if you wanted to tie your hair it would be too short.

derbylass81 · 02/04/2023 11:00

You're very beautiful.

I like you with longer hair, I would keep it as long as you can whilst still donating the 8 inches, and just have a middle parting and keep it simple and flowy / wavy and low maintenance. No big layers or anything, but maybe a few around the face, depending on what length it is.

Can then do ponytail / bun on days when you don't have time to wash it or whatever.

Hongkongsuey · 02/04/2023 11:10

I think Italian bob would suit you. It wouldn’t look frumpy or mum bob-I know exactly what you mean by that. You have a lovely face and hair, so pretty much anything would suit you. Very short hair may make you feel a bit exposed so I would steer clear.

These are my bob photos to show my hairdresser.

And this

ClaraBourne · 02/04/2023 11:16

I'm useless

ClaraBourne · 02/04/2023 11:17

I can't seem to add photos!

Crikeyalmightey · 02/04/2023 11:21

Have a layered "choppy" bob, you can style it smooth or make it flicky with straighteners. Either way, it will grow out quite quickly if you don't like it that short. You have beautiful hair, BTW.

Blondbombsite · 02/04/2023 10:23

I think you’re right and I’m asking for the impossible really 😂

Yeah i think tbh if you don't like the bobs you've had previously then it's going to be hard to make it not like those

thegrain · 02/04/2023 11:31

Check out "scandi bob"

WhatFreshHeckle · 02/04/2023 11:43

I think layers and texture avoid the overly neat look which I also try to avoid. Mine is just above shoulder length, blunt at the ends with lots of texture and waves and a teeny but shorter at the back than the front (but nothing extreme).

I'll try and find a pic

WhatFreshHeckle · 02/04/2023 11:45

This is what I am aiming for but I think the same style would work but shorter. Layers are long and subtle but they are there (in my version). Otherwise I get very flat hair at the roots and puffy at the bottom (dreaded triangle hair)

Honestly, I think your hair looks far better now than your previous bobs and short styles. I don't think any of them suit you, sorry. You look older with the bob than you do now!

SaltyDogLife · 02/04/2023 12:02

The bob was very aging on you and the pixie even more so. You look your best and most youthful with your long hair. Bobs look better on more angular thinner faces, yours is quiet full and soft so it suits full and long hair with soft waves and bounce. Bobs highlight the lower face and as your face shape is round it's just not working well. Keep it long and look after it. It's also more practical as you can put it up out of the way, shorter hair is actually more work.
Keep your current hair and don't go shorter than shoulder length if you must trim it.

I agree - you look really lovely with the longer hair, it's far more flattering than shorter on you.

SaltyDogLife · 02/04/2023 12:06

Try a centre parting or part it on the other side. It will take training as hair can stubbornly sit on one side naturally but if you make your parting when it's wet within a couple of weeks it will sit well in the new direction.

Definitelycross · 02/04/2023 12:31

I've got a longish feather cut, mullet type, but not, heavily layered cut.

I suppose like a shoulder length pixie cut.

I love it as I don't need to do anything bar rough dry and put some product through it.

I was going to say like Miley Cyrus in the perfume ads, but obviously 200 years older and 20 times the size.

That is not me unfortunately 😳

My3cents1 · 02/04/2023 12:46

OP, I’m just here to say you have beautiful hair and skin.

MorrisZapp · 02/04/2023 12:52

Another vote for keeping the length. My hair doesn't grow due to breakage and I could weep to think of you chopping that amazing length. Longer hair can really soften your look, short leaves you nowhere to hide. There isn't a magic bob that looks great when you wake up, the only good bob pics are professionally styled.

Blondbombsite · 02/04/2023 13:13

Thanks to those who like my hair as it is now but I do definitely want the chop. It’s been long for the last 5 years and I want a change. It looks nice in these photos but mainly I don’t have time to style it properly so the weight makes it look limp or it just ends up being stuck up. Originally I was going to go to just below shoulder length but I do really want to donate it, at least if it looks crap and I look older then I can console myself with the fact that someone gets to wear my lovely hair 😂 and no doubt in a year or two I’ll be bored again and grow it out!

When my hair was shorter I used to style it like that sometimes and I really liked it but it’s too thick to hold for long so isn’t practical for an everyday style, unfortunately.
