Want light Indian soft thin cotton shirts for summer. Who sells them?

I've got one fine blue and white striped shirt from Gap that is a lovely soft cotton. But it's not quite right. The French always seem to have shirts like this. I don't know if "Indian cotton" is the technically correct term but it's that thin cool cotton I'm after. Not poplin. Does anyone know a reliable supplier of them?

I've had a couple from Fatface over the years, but they're increasingly hard to find, annoyingly.

The Pierrot shirt from Sezane is made of beautiful thin airy cotton.

CombatBarbie · 27/03/2023 18:24

Is it like a sheer cotton?

SwedishEdith · 27/03/2023 18:29

Thanks for the suggestions so far. The one I have is like this. Very, very slightly brushed, maybe like thin soft pyjamas.

I got a load second hand from La Chemiserie Cacharel

White Stuff have some organic cotton shirts and they’re very thin and soft.

I bought some very cheaply in a street market! Always worth a glance as you pass.

Cremolafoam · 27/03/2023 18:48

Try searching for 'cotton lawn' , cheesecloth or double gauze . All of which a lightweight types of cotton for wafting purposeSmile

Nice but pricey www.thewalkerandwalker.co.uk/

I have been lucky in h&m, but it's a bit hit and miss.

Laiste · 27/03/2023 19:03

cheese cloth!

that's the phrase i've been trying to remember!

I'd like a few shirts like that for summer too. For me it would be something to bung on over a vest top and shorts to stop my shoulders burning.

longtompot · 27/03/2023 19:05

I was watching a repeat of one of Nadiya Hussains cooking programmes at the weekend and she was wearing a beautiful thin orange cotton top, no collar with a vent front, which I would love. No idea where she bought it though. I should see if there is any info on her Instagram, or if I can get a screenshot, see what Google lens finds

SwedishEdith · 27/03/2023 19:06

Oh, more suggestions, thanks.

Yes, I've looked at the markets but not spotted what I want. Annoyingly, boot almost the same shirt as I have now about 40 years ago at a French market.

H&M is a good shout. That other expensive like has some nice things. I need to learn to sew - once I've tracked down the fabric.

That's exactly what I want it for. Still cool but not burning. Linen can be too thick.

If you google cheescloth shirt most of what is thrown up isn't cotton.

I'm having more luck with ''beach shirt''.

Asos have a 100% cotton one. Only in white though:

I really like that orange one actually.

Gawd OP - now you've got me buying summer clothes! 😂

H&M plus M&S have them in at the moment - with pictures attached. I've bought the blue one from H&M and it's such a lovely clear 💙. I'm sure loads more styles will be arriving soon as they did loads last year.
I also have my eye on the green beach shirt from M&S.

Uniqlo might suit you

I have a few dresses from this brand from a few years ago and they are the lovely cotton you describe. Sadly I’m currently too fat for them but I hope not to be by the time it heats up!

The New Look shirts look nice but aren't actually cotton. I didn't know Muslin can be made out of Viscose 🤔

YellowAndGreenToBeSeen · 27/03/2023 21:11

Zara have a good few linen shirts at the mo. They’ve also got a lot of embroidered tops too. Slightly Greek in style and various lengths.
