To miss the actual shop topshop?

My most favourite clothes I bought were early 2000s topshop. I even went to the Oxford Street one (only been to London twice) and its one of my favourite memories of a shop.
I miss the clothes and style and the atmosphere there so much!

Anyone else?

Yes, I loved shopping at their Oxford Street branch. It used to be so good with the cat walk shows and visiting was an experience. BBC iplayer have a two part documentary on TS and Philip Green. Jane Shepherd gives a good account of what it was like working for him (not good).

IWasFunBeforeMum · 21/03/2023 14:41

Yep. Great show on BBC I player called the trouble at Topshop which shows how knob head Green basically ran it into the ground. Sad.

I miss that store so much! It was shopping heaven in my teens and 20's. We used to have Topshop as our meeting spot and head down to what used to be Virgin Megastore in Tottenham Court Road and hang out there listening to music.

Oh another thing I loved doing! Listening to the CDs with the headphones. And looking through all the posters and band merch....

Haha I just wrote the same although you wrote it more eloquently than me 😂

Ahh how I loved Topshop. From 2000 - 2015 I thought it was brilliant.

Hell yes. The Oxford Circus Top Shop was shopping heaven. I can still feel the thrill of going down that escalator.

I used to go there on the first Thursday after payday in my 20s, straight from work. Loved it. Even their maternity stuff was great - I remember buying a maternity LBD there to wear on a babymoon DH was taking me on, and feeling so pleased that I'd got something that made me feel like my old, glam self that I did a little happy dance right there in the changing room.

Them had to have a little happy sit down, because, y'know, pregnant.

Lwrenagain · 21/03/2023 16:59

Agreed it was that shit Phillip Greens fault.
Big massive prick.

Ah friends, the trip down memory lane!

Im having my first daughter (and only!) This year and if she's the type of person who enjoys shopping when she's a teenager I'll be even more fucked off that TS has gone!

My favourite outfit was the arse rising flares and gypsy tops with ballet pumps.
Thought I was sienna!

I loved the Oxford st Topshop and I miss Top shop very much

Annabananna1 · 21/03/2023 19:46

I have a yellow jacket of my mums, it's Topshop from the early 90s. I still wear it a lot it's timeless and in good shape still.
It's in a size 10 but probably more a 6 / 8 nowadays.

emanresuymsisiht · 21/03/2023 20:02

Loved TS from about 1999 until 2009.

Bought myself cream cords in Oxford Street TS in 2002, and then bought them in several other colours in my hometown store. All worn with sunbed tan and skintight Lycra TS t-shirts, again, in just about every colour they sold .

Tops, trousers, shorts, skirts, dresses, coats, jackets, bags, shoes, jewellery, accessories, undies, pj's - it had the absolute lot.

Ohchristmastreeohchristmastree · 21/03/2023 20:10

I think I bought all my clothes in Topshop from about 1995-2005. The Topshop in Norwich was huge I practically lived in it.

Wallabyone · 21/03/2023 20:14

Ah, such fond 90s memories of Oxford Circus Topshop 😭😭 I grew up in North London, and would go into the west end with my mum fairly often. Topshop was just brilliant, full to the brim with interesting stuff, different concessions, and later a nail bar. I too thought my 15 year old average self may just get spotted by a model scout on the escalators 😂

TheClash2023 · 21/03/2023 20:20

Definitely. Loved the big Top Shop

octoberafternoons · 21/03/2023 20:23

I loved the Oxford Circus branch when I first moved to London in my early 20s. I remember once spending £95 there on a jacket and a shrug (remember those?) and feeling like I was spending an absolute fortune but I loved those items so much and still have them somewhere.

Fedupwitheveryone · 21/03/2023 20:26

i lived and worked nearby, was in there every other day. Still forget it's missing as i come out of the tube.

nb there were so many teenage girls mooching around clearly trying to be discovered!

Starryskiesinthesky · 21/03/2023 20:29

Edinburgh Topshop in the 80’s was fab. It had a cafe in the top floor and you could smoke in it in those days!

Niftythrifter · 21/03/2023 20:31

I miss the BOGOF sales that they used to do ( if memory serves) with sale stuff.

My Britpop look was cultivated from cords from Topshop and little T shirts from there too!

I have some modern TS things and also a few old TS pieces including a dress. I was thinking about this the other day wearing the TS dress of old that I picked up in a charity shop, but do fast fashion brands have details like covered buttons now? My TS dress does.

MistySkiesAreGone · 21/03/2023 21:05

It was always the highlight of a girls shopping day out...you'd get a new bag, someone would get jeans etc. Loved it.

I really miss Warehouse. That was my go to for office wear in my early days of an office job. I'd have to scout the shop regularly to find something and avoid all the out there sales stuff but they always had some great bits that fit me. Oasis I always found was for a slightly smaller frame.

Backstreets · 21/03/2023 21:15

Yeah, I do. I miss a fun, stylish high street option. I'm not cut out for wading through 734638473 items on Asos.

tobee · 21/03/2023 21:59

When dd had her German exchange partner over all the German visitors wanted to do was go to Top Shop Oxford Street.

Trip around Big Ben, Buckingham Palace and Tower of London? Farrrrrrr coffffff!

I feel your pain! I too hate wading through endless scrolls, never able to touch or really see an item.

I used to love wandering around my nearest city just mooching about. It just isnt the same now, every single brand is identical.

megletthesecond · 21/03/2023 22:20

It had so many classic years. I did stop shopping there when it became clear what a wanker Green was. I was hoping he'd be given the boot in time for DD to shop there.
I hope his boat leaks for what he did to that amazing place.

Littleguggi · 21/03/2023 22:28

Miss it too! Especially early 2000's. Could have easily brought everything in the store! Could get a pair of jeans for £42 each and a cute dress for £34. Basic tee's were less than a tenner. Still have some vintage items in my wardrobe and the quality is great still!

WingingItSince1973 · 21/03/2023 22:32

I used to shop in the Northampton branch late 80s early 90s. Found the perfect fit jeans in there that I've never found anywhere else. Loved that shop! So sad what's happening to the high street. Also loved Chelsea Girl but that's way in the past 😬

blondieminx · 21/03/2023 22:38

i miss it too. I worked there part time during college & Uni it was great fun!
