What would you do with a one carat emerald cut diamond?

Old engagement ring. Never wear it because it's very obviously an engagement ring and also white gold and I only wear yellow gold now. Seems such a shame to have it sitting there doing nothing. Any ideas? Anyone seen anyone do anything interesting with an emerald cut diamond?

Also how do I find someone to turn it into something?! High street jeweller? Take it to Hatton garden?!

You may find a local, independent jeweller who can make a new ring with it. I remodelled my engagement and eternity ring into one ring.

I'd put it in a rub over setting, and wear it as a ring.
Or, have it as a pendant necklace.

It is going to be tricky to make a one carat emerald cut diamond ring look like anything but an engagement ring!
If you wear necklaces, I'd be tempted to make a beautiful and simple pendant, that you could wear all the time.
Otherwise, maybe remodel it into a ring with some coloured stones, (I'd go for some pave set sapphires personally) so it looks less like an engagement ring.

Why can’t you wear it as an engagement ring? Are you divorce now?

It's bezel set! Or rub over. My favourite setting :-)

Yes and have been for a long time

I'd sell it.

PatterdalePatty · 20/03/2023 22:07

The pendants are lovely. I'll selflessly take it off your hands though if you insist. Love this shape

FfeminyddCymraeg · 20/03/2023 22:08

I’ve got a similar issue but not divorced. We are holidaying in a place we’ve been before and have met a great jeweller who will remake me a new engagement ring in yellow gold from my white gold one.

Like you, I no longer wear white gold and it currently sits in a drawer.

I'd sell it.

Once got offered £200 for it. It cost £2200

Ouch....I believe it though. Go for making it into a pendant then, the ones google brought up were really pretty.

motherstongue · 20/03/2023 23:50

I’d get it made into a lariat necklace using the diamond to hold the 2 chains together a bit like FOPE does.

Appleblum · 21/03/2023 00:23

I'd reset it into a east-west setting, either for a necklace or a ring. I don't think an east-west setting looks like an engagement ring, or does it?

justasking111 · 21/03/2023 00:59

I have a sapphire set into a slim gold bangle that can look effective.

I had my engagement ring plus another ring I I inherited and had it made into a gold cuff with beaten gold and the stones 'scattered' about. I love it. So if you don't want it to be associated with your previous engagement see if you have anything else you can combine it with and find a local jeweller who can design something for you.

Scrumbleton · 21/03/2023 12:20

I had a diamond ring beautifully remodelled at Hatton Garden Diamond- Gemma dealt with it- ask for a discount on any remodelling quotes you get- there's almost always one to be had with jewellery - love love emerald cut diamonds

LadyPoison · 21/03/2023 12:30

Personally I would reset the diamond so it sits horizontally into a broad gold band. Maybe even using a cast in place technique to give some texture and interest.

Definitely wouldn't look like an engagement ring!

East west pendant setting in a necklace

Something like...

uk.vrai.com/jewelry/necklaces/bezel-solitaire-necklace?diamondType=emerald&metal=yellow-gold&goldPurity=14k&ringSize=1.0ct

SiobhanSharpe · 21/03/2023 12:33

Can you not wear it on your right hand? Get it resized if necessary for middle finger if you like.
A one carat emerald cut diamond sounds lovely. Sadly, second hand jewellery doesn't fetch much at all if you were to sell it.

MzHz · 21/03/2023 12:38

we designed my engagement ring, but I know the guy we used does amazing work on resetting/redesigning pieces

Tallulasdancingshoes · 21/03/2023 12:39

If you don’t fancy a ring, then I’d go for a pendant necklace. Jeremy Heber does custom made stuff. I’ve got some of his jewellery and it’s lovely.
