If you wear SPF on your face all year round...

Do you wear it on the rest of your body (parts that aren't covered by clothes) all year round too?

I (stupidly) haven't bothered much with SPF up to this point in my life - other than wearing the occasional moisturiser which includes it, and sunscreen when I've been abroad in hot countries.

I've become a lot more wise to the dangers of the sun, but at what point do you wear SPF on your body? Temperature wise?

OP posts:
AlmostaMamma · 20/03/2023 21:33

Nope. SPF50 on my face and neck all year round, but only on my body during summer or if I’m on holiday. Moisturised from head to toe every day since birth, though.

MsFogi · 20/03/2023 21:34

I put it on the back of my hands whenever I remember.

Karmatime · 20/03/2023 21:35

I wear spf hand cream all year round - too little too late but I’m trying to prevent further damage. I also protect my chest area if it’s exposed. When it’s hot enough to bare anywhere else I wear spf on arms, legs etc. if I’m going to be out and about.

GoodbyeErinsborough · 20/03/2023 21:38

I'm ginger so my skin is really sensitive to the sun.
I wear ultrasun factor 30 every day on my face, perfect for under makeup. It's an all day suncream but I usually reapply in the summer/if it's really hot.
Usually after the Easter Holidays (work in a school) I go for arms, face/neck or anything else that's uncovered.

I inevitably have some left on my fingers after doing my face and I try to remember to rub that into the back of my hands. No idea if this is enough to do anything!

DomesticElf · 20/03/2023 21:41

Spf50 on face and neck everyday all year round. Rest of the body only when exposed in the summer. SPF hand cream is a great idea! Any non greasy recommendations @Karmatime ?

Lcb123 · 20/03/2023 21:47

I usually put some on my neck and chest most days. In summer depends what I’m doing - if working inside I wouldn’t put sun cream on other parts.

Sisisimone · 20/03/2023 21:49

No, I only use spf on face snd neck in the winter because I use Tretinoin and other actives. Only use spf on the rest of me when it's really hot or I'm on holiday in a hot country

Twistering · 20/03/2023 21:52

Hijacking, (sorry OP) but which ones do people use everyday? They all feel horrible to me…especially after I watched a video of the vast amount you need to use to make it work! (Although some better than none I’m sure!)

Schmutter · 20/03/2023 21:56

I wear SPF 50 on my face and neck all year round.

From spring to autumn, I'll put it on any exposed bits too - especially the backs of my hands, chest and arms.

AdoraBell · 20/03/2023 21:58

Yes, and I’ve still ended up with solar keratosis.

I'm using a Bioderma one at the moment but also like Biore Watery Essence or La Roche Posay (prefer the cream to the gel as my skin is dry from tretinoin).

Whiteroomjoy · 20/03/2023 22:01

I have pale skin that burns easily. Do not like the heat . Avoided the sun all my life . Also have vitamin D deficiency so definately not getting enough sunlight 🤷🏼‍♀️🫤
Yet I have had 4 patches of skin cancer on my face. Luckily the one that rests well if caught early. I have a 2 inch scar form the corner of my eye to my cheek , a scar on my scalp with missing hair growth about size of a penny

don’t go out without SF50, haven’t done so for years .

if I 3ver d expose any other parts, and I don’t generally, it’s fo r 30 mins max and slathered with factor 40

I use a boots BB cream type. Or maybe it’s a CC cream. It’s goes in well and does reasonable coverage of my skin cancer scar - as above.

Whiteroomjoy · 20/03/2023 22:03

I also wear a hat at all times in direct sun I should say

La Roche Posay Toleraine is great.

TheOGCCL · 20/03/2023 22:50

I don’t tend to have much else exposed, it would just be my hands and feet and I don’t do them.

Makingamess4212 · 20/03/2023 23:02

I wear it on my face every day regardless. Body only in summer.
Little tip, make sure you rub any left over on the top part of your earlobe, it's an often forgotten part of the body that is directly under the sun's rays and just as susceptible to cancers.

MistySkiesAreGone · 20/03/2023 23:03

Just basic loreal spf 50. Tried la roche but so pricey. Always on face. If there is enough sun for my to freckle i.e. 15 mins outside in the sun then I should put it on arms etc. Hands are a good idea. I take an immune suppressant that lowers UV resistance and its quite shocking - a walk on the beach on a cloudy day and my freckles come out!!!

Quitelikeacatslife · 20/03/2023 23:20

Dermalogica dynamic skin recovery is gorgeous day cream that is spf50 wear it every day

Karmatime · 21/03/2023 05:51

@DomesticElf I use a Eucerin one, Hyaluron anti dark spot spf30. It’s by far the least greasy I’ve tried and over time has improved sun spots on my hands. It’s about £12 so not cheap but often on offer or 3 for 2 in Boots.

isthismylifenow · 21/03/2023 05:56

Yes all year around on my face back of neck etc. But I live in a hot country. I try to wear mostly 3/4 sleeves and then I apply to exposed parts. Ib

Garnier facial spf50. Cheap as chips and brilliant.
Lots of people swear by La Roche Posay and Altruist but I've not used them. Biore watery essence spf50 is amazing if you can get hold of it.

isthismylifenow · 21/03/2023 06:01

My phone had a moment...

As I was saying 😂

I use a different sun screen for arms, body in summer but I try to let some parts be exposed to the sun each day.

I've never had a vit d deficiency and I don't know anyone who has here tbh.

knobheadex · 21/03/2023 06:47

I use the PCA Skin Weightless broad spectrum SPF on my face every day all year round. It's brilliant, not greasy at all and doesn't clog my pores or give my face a white cast.

I do try to remember the backs of my hands, but with hand washing throughout the day I'm not sure if I'm wasting my time. How do those of you who ensure your hands are protected actually do this, when surely you wash your hands with soap and water multiple times a day?
