Should I come out of the grey closet and stop dying my hair?

BumblBeee · 11/02/2008 22:12

Pros:

It is boring
It is expensive
My scalp hurts

Cons:

I will look silly with grey hair
I will look like a grandma and not a ma
I will receive prejudice whilst looking for work

Anyone with an opinion here?

BumblBeee · 11/02/2008 22:15

How old were you when you started getting grey hair?

BumblBeee · 11/02/2008 22:20

Also don't know how I would go about it as my hair is long and I can't have short hair.

Oh I was 27

no! don't stop. I have greys and i do mine every 3 - 4 months: one hour of hassle and mess for looking ten years younger!

fishie · 11/02/2008 22:21

what colour is your hair? what is your grey hair like, grey or white?

BumblBeee · 11/02/2008 22:22

How do you manage to last 4 months?

Do you do hats?

ps why is it expensive? I do my own and it costs a fiver for a decent garnier dye.

CountessDracula · 11/02/2008 22:23

no way!

I am 41, I got my first grey hair when I was 12! I would most certainly not stop yet

I do mine myself as I get soooooooo bored at hairdressers (why does it take them so long ffs) I am an expert now. I even mix my own colour

You will look like a granny

BumblBeee · 11/02/2008 22:23

It is non-descript brown with grey in front - I think!

Have never let it grow in! I think I will have grey bits around the front of my head and not sure where else.

oh and mine is white
I do every 3-4 weeks

ThingOne · 11/02/2008 22:24

Keep on dyeing. That's what it is there for . Change dyes if your scalp is hurting . Il faut souffrir pour etre belle ...

donnie · 11/02/2008 22:24

my hair is a very very dark brown, almost black and I get a lot of greys ( which I pull out, naughty me). Once every 3 months seems to be ok for me - do you do your own? I ised to get it done by the hairdresser. It looked fabulous but cost £100 so a no brainer really!

BumblBeee · 11/02/2008 22:25

I had a serious allergic reaction once so pay loads of money for seaweed based haircolour at a salon.

£60 a go...

mine is dull mouse and white. today it is sort of crimson, the semi permanents do all sorts of exciting things once you go beyond about 20% grey. i do it about every 6 weeks.

BumblBeee · 11/02/2008 22:26

yes it does take them forever CountessDracula

I totally agree!

OP posts:
fishie · 11/02/2008 22:26

if you pull them out you end up with loads of nasty wiggling short white hairs though. better to let them grow in with the rest.

BumblBeee · 11/02/2008 22:27

Well everyone is pro dye!

Do ever worry about the health risks, bladder cancer etc.

OP posts:
CountessDracula · 11/02/2008 22:28

You need to find a low ammonia perm. dye

I am trying to remember the name of mine

hang on

BumblBeee · 11/02/2008 22:28

I have too many to pull out.

Alternatively I could shave my head and wear wigs I suppose!

OP posts:
donnie · 11/02/2008 22:28

I know fishie! I pull those out too!

unicorn123 · 11/02/2008 22:29

I'm 31 and noticed i was getting grey (white) hair when i was 29.not dyed my hair yet cos i don't think it looks to bad at the moment also i don't think i could be bothered dying it. grow old gracefully thats what i say.

BumblBeee · 11/02/2008 22:30

I used to use a product beginning with the letter L but my face blew up like a baloon and I lost some hair.

Had to go to doctors and take antihistimines. Scary!

BumblBeee · 11/02/2008 22:31

sorry that was 'balloon'
