What shoes do you wear to work?

OnTheThames · 16/03/2023 15:44

To be more specific, if you:
a) work outside of the home
b) are a senior manager or generally just have to look smart?

I’m trying to put together a capsule wardrobe for work and am stuck on shoes for Spring / when it’s no longer boots weather.

Any links would be fantastic!

I have some mary janes but struggle to fond other smart shoes for work as I hate loafers or court shoes ans can’t wear flat ballet pumps.

What clothes do you have in your capsule wardrobe? I need to sort out workwear for spring, too.

I wear Clarks brogues. They are smart, but they are not glamorous.

This is my quandary, too!

I tend to wear either:

Slim or tapered ankle grazer trousers, silk blouse & blazer.

OR a midi pencil dress or other tailored dress.

I’m tall and an hourglass size 12. I look crap in wide legged trousers and too ‘booby’ in dresses that aren’t structured.

I hate heels and am glad they’re no longer very fashionable BUT life was easier in terms of choices when I just needed to put on a pair of heels to instantly feel smart!

I have some black patent brogues from Clarks which I don’t love, but I don’t mind them for winter. I don’t know colour would work with my clothes in Spring, though. <off to look at colour options>

I am with you on boots - autumn and winter are easier…I have some loafers which are fine with lots of trousers but not with skirts - on me at least.

I will stick with boots for a good few more weeks then I have some espadrille wedges which are pretty comfortable for really warm weather and some slightly smarter than trainer lace-ups, but it is tricky, I agree - hoping for some ideas from others on here.

I did see a friend wearing some classic Oxford brogues the other day which looked fantastic - very smart and totally un-girly, she really pulled them off…

@OnTheThames her brogues were oxblood, and this was last summer…

Good question OP. I too am struggling with this now heels are out and ballet flats out too.

I have these loafers from M&S which are similar to a previous poster’s. I’d love another option for the spring/summer though www.marksandspencer.com/leather-patent-flat-loafers/p/clp60510378?intid=mobile_app_pdp_share

Stuart Weitzman loafers or the aforementioned Clarks brogues.

Your workwear sounds good, I feel overdressed in structured dresses so sometimes wear a midi shirt dress. I am short and booby so struggling with wide trousers and the oversize blazers that are in the shops.

It's smart casual office wear where I work and I tend to wear loafer type flats (I've got some pointed ones that are quite nice) or long smart flat boots. I also have some flat Chelsea boots and some ankle boots with a small square heel that i sometimes wear. For work mainly I wear jersey type midi dresses or cigarette pants.

Loafers, ballet pumps, flat low ankle boots, smart white trainers, kitten heels.

Haven't worn a pair of killer heels for work since March 2020.

Some Dr Martens lace up shoes, one of the smarter styles without yellow stitching, or a couple of pairs of plain block heel ankle boots. Have a couple of pairs of ballet pumps for summer but rarely worn.

I have a pair of oxblood patent chunky sole brogues from Clarks - not to everyone's taste but I love them.
I'm 5ft11 and a 12/14, I need something chunky. Ballet pumps look mad on me. I wear the brogues with cropped, wide leg, jeans etc

I have this dilemma too and have decided this summer I’m just going to wear white trainers with tapered trouser suits or jeans and blazers.

Not sure what you could wear with a fitted dress though.

Loafers with tapered trousers, some chunky lace up shoes with wide legged trousers or a couple of unstructured but smart dresses that I have (above the knee, can wear with opaques). I've given up tailored dresses because I refuse to wear heels any more, and they look silly on me with flats (booby, short legged, pear shape).

I'm also struggling with this on days I need to be smart. Even kitten heels are uncomfortable after not having worn them for a while. But most flats don't look right with knee length or midi skirts.

@eurochick I stick with long boots for those unless it’s really warm…
