Age is not being kind… with pic! Botox needed, and what else??

I have always had a very “expressive” face but now it is really getting me down. I look battered, and significantly older than my friends (who are mostly older). For info, I’m not yet 40.

I’ve had Botox a couple of times and whilst I don’t love the frozen look, I think I need to keep it up as a preventative measure now??

I don’t smoke, don’t see much sun, don’t drink too much, why am I so wrinkled?! And what else will help? I could probably drink more water but that can’t be all I’m doing wrong!

Any advice much appreciated. Feeling a bit miserable.

If you want to see results: Co2 laser (Alma or Lutronic) recovery time around 5 days, later botox

Thanks @smashin

I’m quite happy with my brows, they are dark and thick and I don’t really want to go down the microblading route there. Hair is bad in this pic, it’s blonde (not grey!) - I’d been running and it was probably rainy/windy… and yes I’m a runner!

OK so you're a runner. There's your answer.
Pounding the pavement is not kind to the structure of the face, neither is the weather.
Absolutely wonderful for.your cardiovascular health and bone mass though!
So basically you pick your poison.

Running will continue to age you facially but the benefits tonyour health more than outweigh this!

My advice is botox, red light face mask and SPF in that order.

@Pieandchips1234456
The top photos are of me frowning intentionally. The practitioner used that to establish where to mark me up prior to injecting.

The bottom photos are of me attempting the same frown and you can see that it is frozen.

However, the pic with the vertical lines is pretty accurate as what it looked like without me attempting to frown. I had deep vertical lines that were very noticeable.

ittakes2 · 15/03/2023 21:15

Google green peel - your skin looks perfect for it. I had one at 35 and it literally stripped 10 years off my face...an even so now in my early 50s I still have less wrinkles on my forehead than I did at 34.

Goodread1 · 15/03/2023 21:20

Hi Op
I too agree with ubove poster, I find crinkly lines around eyes acctractive, as it shows a genuine smile and that you are engaging with whoever you are talking to,

Crinkly lines show warmth about someone's features/personality

MamaDuckling · 15/03/2023 21:24

Thanks @Goodread1 yeah I’m not even that bothered by the eye creases, it’s those deep forehead ones, and general sagginess. Running could be partly to blame. I am training for marathon but not an excessive runner over the years…

@ittakes2 off to google…

Do you always tie your hair back tightly like in the photo OP? I have a fringe which covers my forehead frown lines, could you try something like that?

TBH I’m struggling to see how almost everyone else on the thread is able to analyse which retinol wotnot you need just from this one badly cropped photo of you! Confused Grin

Delatron · 15/03/2023 22:17

Running doesn’t cause forehead lines. But being outside lots (running) without a cap or spf will contribute. That’s the main cause of ageing through running.

You don’t have sagginess and I don’t believe running causes a sagging face anyway. It’s good for us. Just up the SPF and wear a cap.

This thread is amazing! I thought I was up on my anti aging but there’s so much I haven’t even seen. Thank you for this - I’m looking into it preventatively.

Here is my Dermatica prescription for those interested.

The world of beauty… it’s all quite new on me, I’m excited! I did have to stop for an extra wee on my run yesterday from all the water I’d chugged!

Fab start! I call that combo the magic 3

BansheeofInisherin · 16/03/2023 09:11

I think you might need to increase the Retin A dosage slowly if this doesn't show results. I am on 0.05. However, I do have oily Asian skin.

waterlego · 16/03/2023 09:19

@BansheeofInisherin, I think Dermatica like to give a low dosage initially and then gradually increase it. I started on the same one that the OP has been prescribed and then the next one they sent me was slightly higher % The next one will be higher still. I’m feeling a bit impatient to get onto the strong stuff because I haven’t noticed much change yet (and have yet to experience any redness/peeling which I know is often a normal part of the process and might show that it’s working!)

lobeliasb · 16/03/2023 11:03

Are you quite thin? Thin faces age more quickly than plump ones, since there isn't much under the skin to provide structure and keep the skin taut. You could look into plumping treatments like Profhilo, it's a diluted filler placed just under the surface of the skin to add a bit of plumpness and moisture. Better to use it in conjunction with Botox in the forehead, or the lines won't really soften. Like PP have said, peels and retinoids would help improve the texture of your skin. There's always the option of wearing a fringe to hide the lines, that's what I do!

BeachBlondey · 16/03/2023 12:36

No amount of cream will be as effective as Botox. The lady that does mine said to never let it totally wear off, as the muscles start to get stronger again. My Botox usually lasts 7 months (lucky!), so I always re-book at the 6 month mark.

Twochildrenpluspointfour · 16/03/2023 12:50

You can buy tretinoin online here:
www.farmaciaenandorra.com/shop/retirides-crema-tretinoina-30g

Cheaper and no subscription. I buy a few tubes to mitigate the cost of p and p. Am very wary of Skin & Me after they gave DD and I the same 'prescription' despite the age difference, completely differing skin types and wildly different skin concerns.

MarieRoseMarie · 16/03/2023 13:20

Oh, AllDayChemist do tretinoin. They do everything. I’ve ordered a few times. Always arrived. Very cheap.

Enthrallingstoryofstillnessandlight · 16/03/2023 13:46

Which foods would you all recommend apart from the usual salmon, avocado, nuts etc ?

krill · 16/03/2023 20:31

You don't have to choose face or body. That often happens with quick or excessive weight loss.

Hydrate, spf, sleep (regular) and good skincare. Tretinoin for the long game. Botox will help with forehead lines and crows feet. I don't know what your lower face is like to advise about filler. Book a consultation somewhere reputable.

Same for me. Botox lasts around six months.

fuck me, Frownies are the biggest faff I’ve ever known!

Just watched a YouTube video on how to apply, maybe this is why I’m wrinkly, I don’t have time for this!

Botox is getting booked tomorrow.

MamaDuckling · 17/03/2023 14:40

I will update with Botox pics, it’s happening on Monday. Then a hydrafacial on Friday (is this too soon after the Botox)?? And then dermatica for pigmentation etc is arriving any day now…

Have started on a collagen supplement too and trying to drink more water!
