Can you/do you wear your hair scraped back?

I noticed a lot of stars at the Oscars last night wore their hair up or scraped back off their face and they looked really glamorous and stunning. I know they generally have beautiful symmetrical faces but I see normal women out and about with a centre parting, scraped back hair and small bun and they look fab.

It doesn’t suit me at all! Maybe it’s my hairline or large nose on a small face, I don’t know. It would be great to wear it on a day it needs washing but even around the house it looks awful. I think I look better with hair!

I do, have to have it tied back for work though so it's a necessity rather than a choice. I in no way look anywhere near as glam or polished as those at the Oscars! Wear it down (naturally falls to side parting) outside of work as that's what I prefer.

I wear it in a ponytail but I don't 'scrape it back', which sounds really horrible.
The people at the Oscars will have been with a MUA and hairdresser before making their appearance.

There's a huge difference between celebrities at the Oscars having their hair up and you doing it "on a day it needs washing". Those celebs don't have hair that needs washing. It's freshly washed, full of product and professionally styled. You'd probably look a lot better doing it with clean hair

I did when I was younger.

Now I’d look like Miss Trunchbull (Pam Ferris version).

Nah. I'm all forehead and fat face if I do that. I've had a fringe cut and wispy bits. Looks braw. Really braw.

I'm SO happy with it.

I have just started to the past few weeks, after always just sticking to a loose/messy bun. I wasn't sure at first when I tried it but DH said he liked it and it did grow on me. I love it now I'm used to it - works great on either freshly washed hair or when it's due a wash. I use a bristle brush and strong g
hold hair spray to get it all back super smooth and it stays well all day, then either put it in a bun, plait or straightened ponytail. Super quick and makes me feel slightly more put together with a newborn and toddler! Ha

Yes they would all be using hairdressers and products that I don’t have but I still don’t think it would suit me. My teenage dc uses a shiny gel on hers so it’s immaculate and it looks neat and lovely.

I think my hair looks OK tied back, but for some reason I never take good selfies with it like that. I think maybe photos of that style are more flattering from a different angle or something.

Yes I do. A lot. I have a lot of hair. I either straighten it or it's scraped back for sport or going about my day.

I definitely look like I belong on the red carpet.

I hate the whole scrape it back style - many of these women finish up with traction alopecia, which is thinning or balding hair from having been scraped back in this way. And yet still they go on doing it .... beats me as to why .... it does not really look very nice anyway unless you are Audrey Hepburn.

I do because it's practical but I look like a toe so wouldn't for a glamorous event. I'm always so jealous of those who can pull it off.

No. I look like a cross potato with handles if I try. Sister and DD manage with a savage centre parting and it looks amazing but no siree bob to me

Noooo......good god, I'd look awful. Apart from anything, I have a fringe that would resist all attempts to be scraped back.

I wear a pony tail every day and always have done. I'm 51. I have really curly hair (the wild, Hair Bear Bunch sort of hair, not lovely glamorous curls). I tried to have it short once, it was horrendous, looked like a birds nest on my head! So I have it to at least shoulder length and just scrape it back in a crazy pony tail. I cannot be bothered styling it every day. If I'm going out, which is thankfully rare, I can make it kind of look nice with lots of product, and either letting it dry naturally which takes hours and hours or use a diffuser very carefully on low heat on it. Probably once a year, I time it with some going out event and get the hairdresser to straighten it.

I certainly don't have any pony tail related hair loss. Might be a blessing if it did start to thin a bit and be a bit less bush like!

I’m too fat for the scraped back look. I need volume to balance out my face. I did it when I was younger and had sharper cheekbones though!

Yes, I've stopped even brushing mine most days, just redo the bun. I only wash it once a week, I could do it more but it would be instead of sleep. My ears do stick out a bit but the style generally suits me.

It's not great to scrape back hair as can cause traction alopecia.

Isn’t it better to not wash hair before putting it up? I thought freshly washed hair didn’t hold in place as well?

I hate doing my hair, I was a salon owner/stylist for 20 years.

No I feel like it makes me look like an egg. But my sister and my daughter (who are both similar looking to me) both do their hair slicked back into a pony or bun and look really beautiful.
