Please help me figure out what to wear to DD's school interview

DD 13 has applied to a ballet school and has got a final interview next week. I have to accompany her to the interview and I am panicking about what to wear!

It is described as in informal chat so I don't want to dress formally but I live in jeans and trainers so don't really have anything in between casual and formal.

We also have to walk 20mins from the train station so it needs to be fairly comfortable to walk in.

I really want to get this right (and maybe look a bit slimmer as I don't want DD judged on her slightly soft around the edges mother!) but I have no idea where to start. Please help!

I am 5ft 8, fairly slim and athletic but with a big bum and squidgy tummy. Small boobs so v necks or low necks look bad on me. Slim arms. I love navy blue as am blonde and it suits me. Prefer plain colours to patterns. I guess I'm looking for smart casual understated elegance.

do you follow Louise pentland on insta? She is quite a curvy lady but also a ballet mum so I would look at what she kinda wears for inspo

Do you literally never have to wear anything other than jeans op?

you could certainly wear jeans and unlikely they’d blink

but I’d probably wear a winter dress, black tights and my ankle boots

I work from home so it's either jeans and trainers or if I have to attend a formal event I have dresses, knee high boots etc but I think that would be overkill for this?

I don't really go out much other than to chauffeur my kids about.

I'll look up Louise Pentland thanks.

I'd go with a Seasalt dress, I have a neddlecord fabric shirt style one I love, tights and boots. It's a fairly neutral outfit, not super formal and not super casual and I think dresses sort of pull a look together in a way that being cut in the middle by separate bottoms and tops do, even if I don't wear them day to day.

My build is a lot different than Louise Pentland. I'm more like a size 12 version of Princess Catherine. Sorry that sounds really weird but I can't think how else to describe myself!

Completely left field here, but I have a DD who danced at Elmhurst (holiday courses), and attended Tring Park. I wouldn’t walk from the station to either school.
If it’s one of these schools you might be better getting a taxi from the station.

I am very concerned you are considering sending your daughter somewhere that might judge YOUR weight as a parent, presumably that means they will be absolutely toxic about your DDs appearance,

Something like this maybe? Slim leg navy trousers, neutral shoes and a smart t-shirt with a jacket or cardigan? Not the most cutting edge but classic.

Smart jeans, flat shoes, a nice shirt and jacket. They honestly won’t care so long as you’re not in your PJs.

Yes smarter black jeans and a nice jumper would work. I'd probably wear ankle boots not trainers.

I would go for a dressed up version of what you're comfortable in. A cashmere jumper, nice jewelry, dark jeans, ankle boots. Be yourself, in good quality clothes you love. If you don't typically wear dresses it might feel too weird for you and affect how you feel! Or if you do want to go different, how about wide leg trousers? With a nice silk shirt tucked in?

Smarter jeans, jumper in single colour (you must have a navy one, if that’s your colour), ankle boots, nice earrings. Don’t overthink it, as long as you can pay the fees I don’t think they’ll mind.

Thanks I think the smart jeans route is definitely more me. I'm not interested in being cutting edge or fashionable. More like classic elegance.

Not sure about shoes though. I'm so used to wearing trainers I can't imagine what flat shoes would look like on me. I can just envision my Mum wearing those flat shoes with tassles on top and want to avoid that!
