Are the check shirts fitted or baggy?
I can manage both

Do kina fancy a metallic t-shirt, does this mean I have been influenced?

Sequins, no, no, no too plasticky

MrsEX1 · 18/02/2023 21:37

What kind of checked shirts? I have loads in the wardrobe!!

StrychnineInTheSandwiches · 18/02/2023 21:38

NO to low rise trousers.

Yes to waistcoats worn as a top.

StrychnineInTheSandwiches · 18/02/2023 21:38

just gotta go do some arm toning exercises...

Niftythrifter · 18/02/2023 21:41

I read about it first on the British Vogue website so bought a Uniqlo one from a charity shop and have a lighter one from Jigsaw also purchased a few weeks back From a charity shop.

This sounds like All Saints X The 80s!

I love sequins for a night out but have yet to find any that don’t give me a rash.

Low rise trousers days have long gone. Will not be wearing boudoir influences or sheer dresses.

very happy to embrace cobalt blue as it really suits me as a colour and is hard to find usually.

StrychnineInTheSandwiches · 18/02/2023 21:45

Basically everything that was in that early 90s Marc Jacobs for Perry Ellis 'grunge' collection is hot again.

AdventFridgeOfShame · 18/02/2023 21:45

I'm sorted for check shirt shackets, DH has hundreds of the feckers.

Yes!! I am pleased!

I love cobalt blue but I always feel a bit Maggie Thatcher in it. I'll still embrace the colour as it really suits me.

Pipps80 · 18/02/2023 21:52

Very baggy jeans.
Adidas samba or gazelle.

MrsEX1 · 18/02/2023 21:54

I've just purchased another checked shirt off Vinted. Zara for £2! Bloody bargain.

AuntieEntity · 18/02/2023 21:55

Finally, this could be my season to shine. 😂

mdinbc · 18/02/2023 22:02

No to big plaid shirts - unless I am around a campfire.
Yes to relaxed denim - love the wider legged look.
Maybe to metallic - accessories for me, but not all over.
Yes to knee length skirts and dresses.
Sequins have always been in - they are not a trend! I can take them only in small doses.

Purplecatshopaholic · 18/02/2023 22:05

Seen a few check shirts, but there’s not a chance in hell I’m wearing one - not me at all. Not doing trainers either, thanks. Metallics, yes - got some awesome silver cowboy boots, and a few metallic shoes too. The sheer fabric thing is quite me too, but with camisoles or similar underneath. I like wearing blue, but this cobalt blue that’s big just now is not for me.

AdventFridgeOfShame · 18/02/2023 22:38

2023’s Standout Pieces Are Already Sitting In Your Wardrobe

Are we going shopping for new clothes or is 2023 going to be a time to rediscover things in our wardrobes?

LunaTheCat · 19/02/2023 05:25

I did this first time round … won’t be doing it again 🙄
( except for the docs, bought some lace up docs shoes Made in England .. may wear with sheer socks … definitely no sheer dresses over my undies anymore)
I also think the floaty dresses over jeans thing may be back - I can remember nylon nighties over jeans and thick chunky trainers.

Codlingmoths · 19/02/2023 05:40

I love sequins but saw boden say they aren’t doing the kids sequin tees anymore for environmental reasons and thought thats fair and good on them. Much as I loved those tees for my dc. So while I’m not slamming people for wearing sequins I do question if it’s ethical to push them as the it thing for 2023?

MysweetAudrina · 19/02/2023 06:13

I bought a lovely sequenced bandeau jumpsuit but my legs kept trying to attack each other when wearing it. Everyone time my legs touched the sequences caught on each other.

No to check shirts.

Just bought metallic sandals. I like sheer and love cobalt blue, just bought a jacket in it.

Niftythrifter · 19/02/2023 07:45

@Codlingmoths my sequin skirt was purchased from a charity shop for the festive period so more sustainable than buying new sequinned items.

I’m sorry, but not even Kate Moss can make that checkered shirt and baggy jeans look anything more than what you wear when you pop over to Homebase for a tin of paint and a nice plant.

LadyWithLapdog · 19/02/2023 08:42

I have the same reservations (the Thatcher vibe) about a particular shade of blue as other PP. I did see someone head to toe in it and she looked great. She had the exact same shade for shoes and bag, everything.

LadyWithLapdog · 19/02/2023 08:45

I can get on with the pockets trend. They add bulk but can add a bit of interest too, esp to trousers.

TinyCactusInAPot · 19/02/2023 10:46

What does the guardian know about fashion? 😁

the article suggests wearing a chunky necklace…. which to me sounds very dated now

does anyone still wear chunky necklaces? Maybe they do.

I’ve seen very nice checked shirt on Free People which I’m contemplating…

JackGrealishsLegs · 19/02/2023 11:19

No to checked shirts, they aren’t me at all.
No to low rise, just no 😂
No to cargo bottoms, I don’t want the added bulk from pockets.

Yes to (high waisted) wide leg jeans.
Yes to Adidas Sambas, bought this week.
Yes to ruching.
Yes to logo caps, got one in cobalt blue funnily enough.
Yes to teddy gilet.

Love my solid gold vintage chunky necklace, what’s meant to be in now if not chunky gold chains? I still see them a lot.

LadyWithLapdog · 19/02/2023 11:23

Chunky gold necklace, you say? I present to you (not mine, I hasten to add)
